Looks like I'll be going to the show two weeks in a row, to see Ironman 3 this weekend despite all the negative fanboy backlash at the "twist" which I already know, and Star Trek next week.

@Nomis Yep...Star Trek has NEVER been dumb...It has ALWAYS been the smartest series ever...it never did anything that would make you say, that's kind of stupid.

I can't wait till JJ does Star Wars, because if it's a good movie, I seriously doubt Star Wars fans will complain, because after the prequels we need a movie that is good with the name Star Wars at least.

Is the Star Trek reboot even considered science-fiction anymore? To me, it looks more like action/comedy. Don't get me wrong, I loved the first, and I do plan on seeing this one as well.

@TheHeat It's action/comedy in a sci-fi setting. Wasn't there comedy and action in the originals, though?

Not being sarcastic or hating (actually, I completely agree), just wondering how you would compare.

@TheHeat - The Star Trek reboot is made for those who were not intelligent enough to find any appeal in the real Star Trek shows, ST:TNG especially. The orginal series of Star Trek was a show of compromise to give the networks enough fist fights, combat and romance to keep the network happy while trying to deliver some intelligent scifi tales. ST:TNG made no compromise and was Gene Roddenberry's purist form of his vision.

JJ Abrams openly admitted he doesn't understand or like Star Trek as the creator intended so made it like his favorite Star Wars movies. i.e Dumb but with lots of humor, combat, romance and spectacle.

1) This is why Kirk in the reboot can get promoted from cadet to starship captain in a matter of days like Jar Jar Binks or Lando Calrissian did from civilian to general.

2) This is why the Villains in the reboot can come from the future and spend 20 years doing nothing but waiting for revenge instead of going to their homeworld in the past and warning them of the coming destruction and giving them superior technology.

3) This is why when the villains are being sucked into a destructive wormhole in the end the Star Fleet offices send photon torpedos instead of trying to rescue survivors while smiling at their victory.

4) And this is why Spock in the reboot is somehow effected by Kirks dad's death enough for him to have no control over his emotions and need to have sex with one of his pupils and then get emotionally blackmailed into letting her serve on his ship.

And now in this new action comedy Star Trek, they've somehow managed to turn Khan Noonian Singh from an Asian into obligatory template English accented villain that appears in every action film instead of the Asian genetic superhuman he was supposed to be from 100 years in their past before the timeline changed.

Just give people enough dumb action scenes, spectacle and comedy and they forget any need for a plot let alone common sense. Not only that, they'll enjoy it enough to call it "Brilliant" and "Genius" when clearly its nothing of the sort.

Star Trek for knuckle-draggers.

Well, it is still a lot more science fiction than Star Wars (space fantasy).

@Nomis Because 'Spock's Brain' was such a high-brow episode?

Does anyone remember the episode where Jack the Reapers spirit took control of the ship? Seriously, Star Trek has a had a lot of dumb episodes, but they were entertaining, for some reason I think we all forgot how to sit back and be entertained by a movie.
