The Millennium Falcon, the Slave 1, TIE fighters, X-wings, Star Destroyers, T-47 Airspeeders, etc. The list of Star Wars ships is expansive and diverse. Some express nobility, some are used strictly for battle, while others are used for smuggling. With each coming Star Wars film, fans are treated to new ships, and new DK visual dictionaries to immerse themselves in so they can learn everything about these space crafts.
In a recent interview Pablo Hidalgo talked about one of the ships, the The V-4X-D Ski Speeder, in the The Last Jedi:
"One of Rian's overriding principals on them is ... they are basically heaps of crap. They are old and not meant to instill confidence. They are like a lot of things in the Resistance, weapons of last resort. Use what you have on hand, even old, outdated stuff falling apart for years. If you believe in it, hopefully it will fly."
These comments are anything but a glowing endorsement of the new ships. It does however indicate that the Resistance is struggling to keep up with the First Order. Using whatever ships they can scavenge to fight the enemy. The ships are also seen skimming the surface of Crait. A planet that is referenced in Claudia Gray’s Leia: Princess of Alderaan novel, and seen as an early rebel meeting location for Bail Organa and his associates. Clearly the Resistance will use not only whatever ships, but also whatever bases, are at their disposal. Although the Resistance ships might be inferior, they will hopefully provide a good action scene.
