With so many Star Wars movies and TV shows failing to make it to our screens in recent years, fans remain hopeful that the big screen project revolving around Daisy Ridley's Rey - first announced during last April's Star Wars Celebration - will eventually become a reality.

Essentially "Episode X" (or, at the very least, an epilogue to The Rise of Skywalker), the movie is set to take place 15 years after the events of the Skywalker Saga concluded. Rey, now a fully-fledged Jedi Master, will attempt to lead the Jedi into a new age, only for a mysterious dark force to rise in a bid to combat her.

Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy remains attached to helm the project which, based on our last update, has been penned by Steven Knight. Originally, Damon Lindelof (Watchmen) was attached to write the screenplay and did so before parting ways with Lucasfilm over creative differences.

The movie, rumoured to be titled Star Wars: New Jedi Order or Star Wars: The New Beginning, does appear to be slowly taking shape but is Ridley ready to take centre stage in another trilogy?

Talking on the Smartless podcast (via SFFGazette.com), the actress confirmed she's only signed up for one movie, at least "for now." Ridley added that she expects to see a script "soon-ish," calling the project "very cool" before adding, "Different writer, different director. It will be quite a different feeling, I imagine."

That last part is likely to be welcomed by fans, particularly as J.J. Abrams' The Rise of Skywalker was widely considered a disappointing conclusion to the Skywalker Saga. This movie has the opportunity to put things right and end Rey's story on a high note (while setting the stage for a new wave of stories set in a Galaxy where the Empire is finally no more).

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy recently shared her thoughts on the challenges that come with being a woman in the Star Wars franchise when she said, "Operating within these giant franchises now, with social media and the level of expectation - it's terrifying. I think [The Acolyte showrunner] Leslye [Headland] has struggled a little bit with it."

"I think a lot of the women who step into Star Wars struggle with this a bit more. Because of the fan base being so male-dominated, they sometimes get attacked in ways that can be quite personal. My belief is that storytelling does need to be representative of all people. That's an easy decision for me," Kennedy concluded.

The Rey-led Star Wars movie doesn't currently have a confirmed release date.

@Matchesz - Hard to call it "acting" but she did appear in that movie that bombed with Tom Holland.

What about that trilogy from a certain pretentious douchebag? Or is he stuck with Netflix making pseudointelectual who dunnit?

I feel like if there were plans for her to be in a new trilogy , we would have known by now but I could be wrong…

Either way, I am looking forward to this film as someone who likes Daisy and the character of Rey overall aswell!!.

Plus if she remains attached , I want to support my fellow Pakistani in Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy…

She’s mainly known for her documentaries but i enjoyed her work in Ms Marvel so I wish her the best with this big opportunity!!

Also call it Star Wars:New Jedi Order, that’s a cool title.

@TheVisionary25 - yeah, New Jedi Order as a title is fine (same with Heir to the Empire and Dawn of the Jedi, they cover the load). No need to slap Episode X on it either if it's an epilogue.

The guy writing it is the same guy who created Peaky Blinders. And Daisy Ridley might be nominated for an Oscar this year for playing Gertrude Ederle. First person to swim the English Channel.

@Mrnorth1921 - Chris Terrio won an oscar for Argo before BvS, JL and Episode IX... Also, Peaky Blinders is a poor man's Boardwalk Empire.

@NickScryer - it’s highly acclaimed and beloved by many. And again episode 9 was remade on the spot. The movie was basically a requel.

@Mrnorth1921 - which is why I don't put any faith in anything Lucasfilm has in store. After Episodes 8 & 9 and Solo it's clear they don't have a plan and are making shit up as they go.

@NickScryer - I'll be first in line to defend Solo. The Sequels just were movies in the Star Wars universe, but Solo (and Rogue One) actually felt like Star Wars movies
NickScryer
NickScryer - 6/12/2024, 7:20 AM
@bkmeijer1 - It should be the other way around. With Solo, I was refering more to the production issues, it was basically made twice like Ep9. Rogue One also had trouble behind the scenes, but somehow turned good. So yeah, they can't get their shit together.

@NickScryer - in that aspect you're correct. And that's not even to mention how many directors already left Lucasfilm

@Batmangina - it’s one of those movies you have to admire as it really happened in reali life. She swam 21 miles of open sea.

Batmangina - 6/12/2024, 9:55 AM
@Mrnorth1921 - I totally understand and admire the actual event - especially for the time and place. I'd be all over a documentary on it - hell, have Daisy Ridley narrate the MFer.

I just don't have any need for Rey Palpatine to be in a movie about it.

I genuinely don't mind another movie with her that's separated from this past trilogy.
With that said, I think making another trilogy centered around her would be a mistake.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 6/12/2024, 6:57 AM
@Slotherin - why would it be a mistake?

The previous trilogy regardless of how people felt about it did very well and she has a fanbase.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 6/12/2024, 7:14 AM
@Slotherin - I agree. She should be a secondary character like Obi-Wan was in the originals. If they do a threequel trilogy, it needs a new generation of protagonists
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 6/12/2024, 7:24 AM
@bkmeijer1 - I think that will be the case with this if it is a trilogy , since it’s rumored that this has 2 other young protagonists (one male & one female)
Slotherin
Slotherin - 6/12/2024, 8:10 AM
@TheVisionary25 - it sold because it's Star Wars and people were willing to see it through but there was lots of backlash towards it.
Furthermore Rey didn't actually get a lot of opportunity to do her thing and be her own character and they heavily relied on nostalgia bait... So maybe this film can rectify that but the aforementioned doesn't give a good start to centering another trilogy around her, especially when there won't be the nostalgia backing.
Which ironically I'm actually fine with and look forward to if they do something beside just pure nostalgia but I imagine that would lose appeal for some while being embraced by a few.
Slotherin
Slotherin - 6/12/2024, 8:11 AM
@bkmeijer1 - that would be good. Age out characters as mentors.
One of my favorite things with the different trilogies so far is seeing the characters shifted to different roles. Going from mentor to hero or hero to mentor.
Slotherin

@TheVisionary25 -
@bkmeijer1 - if only they had some good antagonists or protagonists to turn antagonist to bring back from this past trilogy.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 6/12/2024, 8:12 AM
@Slotherin - I agree to an extent there

It may not do aswell as the sequel trilogy dud due to the nostalgia factor but I still see it doing well.

@Slotherin @Visionary25 - Making Rey a mentor could lead to some interesting stuff. I think they could even make one of Rey's students (initial protagonist) the antagonist.

Rey's mentor figures all died in the last trilogy (every time to bring Ben back to the light), so she doesn't really have an example to follow. This could lead to her pushing one of the young kids away, who could turn into the villain for this movie.

@bkmeijer1 - a bit redundant to Ren for Luke and Vader for Kenobi. Still, Star Wars has a way of echoing so maybe.

I felt right to call out Snoke as a Wizard of Oz type when I first saw him but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited at the notion he teased of being older than the Empire and something separate from it.
Sadly JJ's mystery box lacked payoff.

@TheVisionary25 -
In regards to my last comment, I realize I didn't make it clearer what I was getting at...

I liked that Snoke initially appeared to be from somewhere different, as if he was a darkness that the darkness didn't know about.
While I'm okay with repeating a student turned villain or personal connection to the hero, I kind of long for something that's wholly disconnected from that and feels different while still being Star Wars.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 6/15/2024, 9:46 AM
@Slotherin - yeah, a completely different type of villain could be interesting as well. Legends has enough to pull from with Yuuzhan Vong and Darth Krayt for example.

Still, I think the sequel unintentionally set up a really interesting arc for Rey in regard to her mentorship. Her mentee doesn't really need to go to the Dark Side per se, but it could lead to a compelling dynamic I think.

That said, I was kinda hoping Snoke was Plagueis all this time.

bkmeijer1 - 6/12/2024, 7:15 AM
One movie is more than enough if it's not part of a new trilogy. Do wonder what the dark force rising is gonna be though. Kinda hope they're pulling a character from Legends (although if it's up to Kathleen Kennedy, she's oblivious to the existence of Legends)
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 6/12/2024, 7:23 AM
@bkmeijer1 - that still hasn’t stopped creatives like Filoni or Headland to pull from that haha

I hope it is from Legends , that would be cool!!.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 6/12/2024, 8:28 AM
@TheVisionary25 - yeah, I'm glad they're doing it. Even down to small stuff like flamethrower stormtroopers. Wish the movies had stuff like that, but they didn't even pay attention to canon stuff (Exogol and the Wayfinder easily could've been Moraband and a Holocron)

I want a three trilogy, nine film nose dive into bankruptcy.

The funniest thing is, they might actually do it.
PatchesOhulihan
PatchesOhulihan - 6/12/2024, 8:43 AM
@Batmangina - I want them to do the middle three movies of the triple trilogy, followed by the first three where they can de-age Rey, and then have Rey conclude with the final three films of the trilogy later in the timeline so it matches her actual age, and she'll disappear as a force ghost at the end.

These males having problems with Ridley female lead stories are just BULLSH!T! Ridley wasn't the problem.

The thing that made the last trilogy horrible was everything. The writing, direction, ruination of the main characters, and some terrible new character choices all led to this disaster. Abrams is the father of this disaster.

They should scrape the whole status quo clean and restart Star Wars 10,000+ years in the future with new fresh material.

But they won't. They will continue destroying the legacy of this once great franchise.
