Star Wars Episode VII Rumored To Move Up Release Date. Should Fox Be Scared.

Recent rumors suggest that Disney may move Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens' release date to sometime this summer. Who should be nervous about this? My money is on Fox.

During the last few weeks there has been some quiet murmurings of a possible release date change for Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Reports of comments made by the film's director, J.J. Abrams at the Visual Effects Society Awards, a few weeks ago, suggest that in order to avoid fans being ruined by spoilers before the film's release it may be prudent to change the release date and release the film before any more secrets are released. So if this really is this case, where on the calendar would it fit?
After studying the calendar I've come to a jaw-dropping conclusion. If it was to happen, the movie to be crushed under the franchises monumental weight would be Fox's Fantastic Four reboot scheduled for Aug. 7.
Why Aug. 7? I think this makes sense for several reason. One reason is that it leaves plenty of room for the rest of Disney's tentpole projects due out this summer. "Avengers: Age of Ultron," due on May 1, will likely dominate the box office for a month and likely break a few records during that time period. Before that month is over, Disney has scheduled "Tomorrowland" on May 22. A film Disney is likely hoping is the beginning of a new franchise. A week after the release of Jurassic World, the new Pixar film "Inside Out," is released June 19th. Disney and Pixar would very much like to see Pixar's return to its former glory after a few recent lackluster releases.
A month later on July 17 we have "Ant-Man," while considered a dark horse it still has the potential to surprise audiences like "GUardians of the Galaxy," did last year. So where would there be space for something as mammoth as Star Wars? It could capture a spot on Aug. 7 causing Fox to have to make some quick, dirty and fast decision about the "Fantastic Four."
Disrupting the release of the "Fantastic Four," could be a strategic move on their part to help hasten an environment where Fox may not see the value of holding on to the Fantastic Four property, especially if it performs more poorly than previous attempts. If a release date change is imminent I would not be surprised if Aug. 7 is being bandied about.
Please post below your thoughts and comments, Would this be a jerk move by Disney? Would it be due justice to Fox for how thye have handled the property? Or are we still looking at a December release date?

Alice In Wonderland 2 is also released the same day as X Men Apocalypse.

I know that oversease dates may change but Alice 2 will be massive overseas and will cut Xmen legs in the overseas market.

I wonder how Trank would feel about that, since he is directing a Star Wars spin-off. I don't see the move happening, there isn't enough evidence to come to that conclusion.

He kinda just shot this whole thing down.

There's literally no chance that a blockbuster movie event on the scale of STAR WARS will completely change its release date because...spoilers. No chance. I'd bet my house, my parents, my life, my future marriage, and my ex-girlfriend on that. Actually, I'll throw in my ex anyway, even when I'm proven right.

Nah, they wouldn't do that. Movies like this are working on finishing the movie right up until its release date, so there's no way they're cutting half the year off its production.

No. There is exactly zero chance they will move Star Wars to August. August is one of the worst months to release movies. GotG broke every August record there is as far as I know, but it might have approached $900 million if it had been released in June or July. No, if they were gonna move it up they would probably have it replace Ant-Man (which quite frankly would be close enough to wipe out Fantastic 4 anyway) and move Ant-Man back to December or something like that. No, they will leave it in December, since December has proven to be the best winter month for a blockbuster release to have a shot at a billion.

That's interesting! Sure! I'd love to watch Star Wars VII this soon. Can't wait for December. Hate spoilers spreading out before the release of the movie. That happened before with Empire Strikes Back. They showed The Making of Star Wars ESB a week before showing the movie. And while watching, it felt lackluster because I already knew what to expect.
Whereas for the Fant4stic reboot... I sincerely hope Fox will be stupid enough to make a stand and stick to their release date of August 8,2015. I'd love to see that day when Star Wars VII The Force Awakens obliterates it completely at the BO.
That will be satisfying.

@RavenTheHunter - Except in this case the scenario isn't Starbucks and a mom-and-pop shop. It's two big corporations on equal footing, and one of them just happens to be vulnerable. If McDonald's did a poll and figured that they could put a Taco Bell franchise out of business and dominate a busy intersection, you bet they'd make that move.
