No! Tarkin looked like the Star Wars version of Gollem circa 2002.
It was awful and disrespectful!
At least wait for the technology to get there, and don't devote whole scenes to your CGI caricatures of dead actors, with their dead stares.

@Battabing - Even though I loved Rogue One and thought Tarkin looked completely real, Leia looked like a video game character and I fear in 15 years time I might start to notice Tarkin looking off too.
Not sure why they released an imperfect CGI model when they couldve just done a behind the back shot of Leia, or a shadowed distance shot.

@Elayem - In 15 years?! What the hell is wrong with your eyes? Tarkin was worse than Leia, as he had whole scenes where he talked to people he didn't make eye contact with. The fact that it was a CGI construct was pretty glaring.

@Elayem - If your eyes work, you can tell it's a CGI construct, especially since he got whole scenes out in the bright light.

Even the girl I went with commented on how distracting it was and she doesn't remember anything about these movies.

I don't think they should be used in CGI at all. It is disrespectful to the actor or actress. If they are used in this format the families should be heavily compensated.

I say only if the estate allows it ,and is very limited. I think it was overdone in Rogue One.

I don't care. If they have the rights and the family is OK with it... I don't think it harms the deceased in any way.

Just do it when the tech is good enough, cause both Tarkin and Leia were pretty bad imo. You could see the CG popping in the film. Wonder what younger fellows could think: "hey, why did they put this computer-made guy in the middle of the film? He's not even an alien!"

No disrespect to anyone's opinions here but EVERYONE I spoke to and the consensus on those who've seen Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One, who didn't necessarily know who he was, didn't realize that the character/actor was CGI,the AVERAGE person didn't know that he was a CGI generated character. YOU/US guys knew this because we are geeks/nerds, we ALREADY knew this and we were consciously LOOKING for flaws,therefore we found them.

What was noticeably unnatural about Tarkin was the eye blinking, lip movement and smooth edging of the outerlining of his profile or the VERY slight "smudge" look(reminiscent of the look they gave beautiful woman on Star Trek in the 60's)
Other than those SLIGHT issues, they came RESPECTABLY close! ALMOST flawless!!!

Princess Leia, on the otherhand, I don't know what happened. It wasn't BAD but nowhere as good as how well they did with Tarkin.

Scale from 1-10
Tarkin: 8.9 (even more impressive because the actor is dead)
Leia: 7.5(more disappointing because the actress was still alive)

As long as recreating a deceased actor's likeness is done in with the highest RESPECTABLE "precision", good taste,and likeness with a GOOD reason for them being there, then I'm all for it.

Recreating/resurrecting deceased entertainers or using their likeness to sell products, however, in my opinion, is in bad taste(unless of course that entertainer promoted that product while alive and it's fine with the estate).

I think people are overreacting with this, Tarkin needed to be there, let's move on.
Leia didn't, but I guess regular moviegoers needed more OT characters to know this is a prequel, that's pretty much why it felt as forced as it was.

I'm fine with it if the family/estate of the actor agrees, but it is sometimes distracting. It probably would've been better if they had just recast Tarkin with an actor who looks a lot like Peter Cushing.
