Cussing Christian Bale Tears Into Terminator D.P.

Christian Bale, ticked off at Terminator: Salvation's director of photography for interrupting what we're told was a very intense scene, ripped into the guy for about three and a half minutes, at one point telling him he was going to "kick his f--king ass" and threatening to quit the set unless the man was fired.

"I want you off the set! You prick!" the 35-year-old actor yelled at D.P. Shane Hurlbut. "No, don't just be sorry! Think for one f--king second! What the f--k are you doing? Are you professional or not?"

The rant, captured on tape last year, continued in that vein for several minutes, with the F-word taking center stage.

But although Bale's behavior makes us think twice about taking tea with the Brit, let along working with him, Bruce Franklin, an assistant director and associate producer on the fourth Terminator film, tells E! News that Bale, a "consummate professional," just had a bad day.

"If you are working in a very intense scene and someone takes you out of your groove...It was the most emotional scene in the movie," said Franklin. "And for him to get stopped in the middle of it. He is very intensely involved in his character. He didn't walk around like that all day long. It was just a moment and it passed.

"This was my second movie with Christian, and it has always been a good experience with him," added Franklin, who also worked with the actor on 2000's Shaft. "He is so dedicated to the craft. I think someone is begging to make some noise about this, but I don't think it's fair. The art of acting is not paint by numbers, it's an art form. "

Reps for Bale and Hurlbut did not immediately return calls for comment.

Rumors of Bale's Terminator temper tantrum made the rounds last July when he was questioned by British authorities in connection with a public spat he had with his mom and sister. The Dark Knight star was ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing.

UPDATE: Bale's blowout now has a Theme Song - AND ITS CATCHY! Our thanks to CBM regular NoobMike for pointing it out to us.

Yeah i heard that on the radio this morning. The guy totally has issues! How can you possibly rant for over three minutes long about one error a "human being" committed? That should be considered harasment and that DP could get a huge settlement. If he is to be part of society, Bale should undergo Anger Management immediatly! Maybe he wasn't so innocent when he was reported to have assaulted his mother and sister. I've lost all matter of respect i had for him and quite honestly, i woudln't mind not having him in the next Batman movie. His performance wasn't that stellar and could easily be replaced by someone like Adrian Pasdar. Pasdar would not only be a better Batman but also a waaaayyy better Bruce Wayne!

I think bale was right in the situation, this movie that they have all been working on to the best of their abilities is then disrupted by some moron in the most emotional part in the whole movie, this guy is clearly an idiot. has anyone ever heard of him or am i just naive? Haha.

Anyone who thinks that insane rant was justified is just as nuts! Like shaman said its just human error, the guy may have did something incredibly silly but just setting him straight , maybe call him a dumbass ONCE would have sufficed. Anyway its not Bales responsibility to repremand anybody its the directors. Its safe to say that if he screamed at me like that with his pretentious little American accent id walk off set..after delivering a swift boot to Christians bollix!

Id have to kinda take Christians side on this one. you dont screw around on set like that. but still, that was one major verbal ass kicking. christian coulda turned it down a few notches.

@ EvilAsh.. LOL!

I think he went over the top but then again you cant totally blame Bale for this. Imagine you're the actor... you muster everything you have to be totally in character, memorize your lines and be the best you can be in the MOST emotional part of the film and halfway through you... Wham! get cut in the middle of it by someone who didnt have presence of mind. And the article said it happened twice too.. not once.

Id be pissed as well.. not as much as he was though but nevertheless pissed.

And this is why I quit acting, because there are nothing but these types of people who are divas and think that if they have a problem then it should be everyone else s. Seriously people, don't judge this lighting guy, I guarantee you its not his fault. How often do actors screw up and the tech people have to deal with them? This is why I don't act anymore.

They are both iditos... The guy is obviously stupid for doing that. But Bale is being just as unprofessional in screaming at him like that. What he should have done is jsut go to the guy and tell him whaat was going on and then they couldve gone on with the scene.

I wish all actors were like Chow Yun Fat :P

I do wonder if he is a method actor tho? There is no excuse, but i have some friends in the business who walk around for weeks "in character"......for some people it's hard to turn off.

Would've been awesome if he said, "I'm John Connor Damnit!!! I Save The World!!!"

OK. So, that was complete and utter unprofessionalism at it's finest. I understand ranting/venting about someone not doing their job properly when things go wrong, or when your so "in the zone" that something distracting absolutely kills everything for you. I get it, I've done my schtick, I understand (to a point) where Bale's coming from. HOWEVER, it was completely uncalled for , yea calling him a "nice guy" is all well and good except the fact that he completely emasculated the guy in front of dozens of people, and now, in front of millions. It was unprofessional, threatening and menacing and I can only IMAGINE how Bale came at the guy with the "I'm gonna kick your ass" comment as you can hear him moving and tell things are being moved/thrown/pushed out of the way to get to "Shane".

I don't think this is going to end well for Bale at all, he will do a public apology to the guy, he won't mean it though. He will leave out from in front of the camera and start talking shit behind scenes asking why the "[frick]" he had to do that after the guy was so unprofessional blah blah blah. I like his acting, his movies are great, but I don't care WHO you are, he would have a got one right to the kisser buddy.

Completely unprofessional and he should be fined and there should be a settlement for so many reasons. Including, Menacing behavior, verbal threats, slander, and making the guy shit his pants in front of dozens of people. 250k in "Shane"s pocket.

If Christian Bale shouldn't have blown up because the guy made a human mistake, then Bale blowing up was a human was a human mistake too. For goodness sakes, the scene was about emotionality! He lost his temper, who hasn't...?
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 2/3/2009, 12:49 PM
so weve all lost our temper...but let me ask you this..if you wer in your place of work and maybe spilled a cup of coffee on an important document and your boss or workmate let rip a tirade of abuse and threats like that, would you think it was justified? because its the same thing here..it doent matter that Bale is a big movie star and his job happens to be making blockbuster movies..he still has to observe and follow the normal rules that apply to polite society. For gods sake the man sounded deranged! Do you know how many takes the director would have been doing for this scene anyway? So he was in "the zone" and hes method and blah blah,..BULLSHIT..he should have pulled the guy up on it and moved on, now he just looks like a complete and utter tool

No one and i mean NO HUMAN BEING "DESERVES" that treatment!!! No matter how bad you screw up, no matter what you've done, no one can justify that TSUNAMI of hate that Bale unleashed! That was a "you raped my mother" type of rant that is always accompanied by extreme violence. In no possible way was this explosion warranted. The emotionnal and psychological damage that Bale ultimately caused could possibly mean the DP's destruction in his personnal life as well as in his proffession. If your not mentally prepared to deal with that psychological "onslaught" (BTW which civilian you know, in their right f**king mind, would wake up every morning expecting that???) then your very life is affected in the worst possible way. The DP must feel like Thailand after the hurricane after that!!! I would totally sue his ass for affecting him in a way that he can no longer remain employed anywhere!!!
SirExcalibur
SirExcalibur - 2/3/2009, 12:58 PM
Yeah, that wasn't really how it should have been handled but if you were out there with every emotion in your body at max, exploding with emotion and it was ruined you'd like die lol. Not saying he should have done that but he probably could have done a lot worse.

And MoonDoggyX has a good point there, Bale made a human mistake just as the other guy.

ya know what really sucks, Chriatian Bale must be really pissed now. that guy better move to canada or something cuz i think Bale is going to kill him for the embarrassment he caused him.
Shaman
Shaman - 2/3/2009, 1:04 PM
That's not a f**king human mistake!!! IT LASTED THREE MINUTES LONG!!! He had more than enough time to realise what he was doing but even after he calmed down and told the guy he was "nice", he boilled right back up because HE felt HE WASN'T DONE LAYING HATE ON HIM!!! That's called a "you know god damn well what the f**k your doing" situation! It ain't no mistake like the guy walking right in front of a camera (since there's probably 10 of them around the set). Bale knew what he was doing and didn't stop until he felt satisfied with the destruction he was unleashing on the guy!!! And Bale caused himself that damn embaresment in the first place. All he had to do was put his fist through a wall and shut the f**k up!!! But no, he decided to go apeshit and made his own self look like an idiot in front of what is now the whole world!!! And no bull shit public appology will ever compansate for this!!!
MisterNiceGuy
MisterNiceGuy - 2/3/2009, 1:08 PM
And yes Christian Bale is an asshole. But wrong or not. He is still making shit loads of money and he is still gonna be in movies.
Shaman
Shaman - 2/3/2009, 1:14 PM
Yeah i know, which pisses me off totally, it's the same situation with Alec Baldwin! Remember the taped conversation he had on the phone with his daughter??? He went apeshit on her and she was like 8 or something!!! But every body loves him because he's on 30 Rock! People are hipocrits!!! Now Bale is gonna do his appology and will "act" all sorry and he'll follow by doing some comedies and be a part of SNL for a few shows and his career will be right back on track!

Everyone has there bad days and I am sure with actors, there bad days are when they arent being treated like princess' so whatever, I am sure he will apologize to the guy and we will never see it so..

But here's the thing about acting, when one is acting, they are supposed to be completely aware of not only themselves but the character that they are playing, otherwise, things could end very badly if people can't get a grip on their real life/acting difference. You do not, in any circumstance, give that sort of outburst, no matter how emotional you are, especially to someone who's job is to make you look good. This is why Bale wasn't cast a Superman....

And don't give me "method acting" crap. As much as I respect actors like Johnny Depp who are supposedly method actors, its ridiculous. There is no such thing as method acting. When a person lives and breathes as if they are someone else, thats not acting, thats obsession and its unhealthy. Actors have attention issues, every one of them, and its just a way for them to draw more attention to themselves.

I can't believe anyone here can even remotely justify what Bale did. He is making millions upon million to act. Grow the frick up and act like an adult. Like someone said earlier, you go ahead and freak out on someone at your workplace like that and see what happens. The treatment stars get sickens me when you can belittle a person and threaten them but at the same time people "understand where he is coming from".
909iriekine
909iriekine - 2/3/2009, 2:13 PM
understand actors need to find emotions that they are not feeling at that time to play a certain part of the scene. like crying, sad, depress, anger, or any emotions. actors care about their roles and play them with respect like the dark knight, the joker, wolverine. We can't just trust what we read and hear. on he said, she said. so to get to that point of emotions that the actor needs for a scene and to convince us to cry, laugh, be scared, and be angry at them when they are playing the bad guy. so if he yelled at that person for killing his scene its just one of those days. life is not fair!.

909iriekine- Right so that just excuses the f**k out of Bale right? Hell, he could have just went for his throat, no biggy it's that kind of day. He could have killed him, it's okay he was playing out an emotion. The american justice system is full of wrongly accused but when we have proof right in our faces that he is guilty, it's okay, he's an actor. Isn't that precious.

People please stop comparing this situation to your personal job. Your job is nothing like being an actor, and actors do this all the time. It's not just Christian Bale it's the majority of them that act like this. Yes, it was classless and very unprofessional but that is the business. I am a DP on a documentary film about adults with cancer, and I would gladly take that abuse to be able to work with an actor the like of Christian Bale. Yeah he probably should take anger management classes but that doesn't mean you should stop watching his movies. Hell are own parents have at one point talked to us worse then this. Do we all disown our families or relatives?????

I agree with juicerules...give me a break people...bale's just human too...he was working on an intense scene and someone who knew better BLEW IT!! You'd be ticked too!! In fact, apparently this was the second time the guy did this...so guess what, that means the first time he did it, Bale let it go. The second time he did it, Bale layed into him. And no doubt, dont compare this to your job, your job is NOTHING like this. MILLIONS of dollars are at stake on this thing and they're counting on Bale to get it right, and he is incredibly dedicated to his craft. The DP obviously wasnt being professional and should've been fired!! HOWEVER...i think a few minutes later Bale probobly calmed down and talked with the guy...but of course the media bloodsuckers wouldn't mention that if it did happen. They're out to get something juicy on a guy (Bale) who keeps to himself and works his *ss off on his films.
