While many have expressed a sense of disinterest in the future of the Terminator franchise, especially after the lackluster response to Terminator Genisys, recent news of series creator James Cameron and Deadpool director Tim Miller collaborating on a new installment with Arnold Schwarzenegger returning made fans curious. And during a private event celebrating the franchise, Cameron made the official announcement that not only is the film happening, but that Linda Hamilton will be reprising her beloved role of Sarah Connor.

"As meaningful as she was to gender and action stars everywhere back then, it’s going to make a huge statement to have that seasoned warrior that she’s become return... There are 50-year-old, 60-year-old guys out there killing bad guys, but there isn’t an example of that for women.”

In addition to producing the new film and crafting the story, which will be a direct sequel to Judgment Day, Cameron has also collaborated with Miller in assembling a writers room to plan a new trilogy of films that can serve as stand-alone films or form an overarching story. A few of the writers said to have participated include David S. Goyer (Man of Steel), Charles Eglee (Dark Angel), and Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles).

Cameron also revealed that the plan for the new film is to pass the torch to a new ensemble cast of younger characters who will carry the franchise going forward.

"We’re starting a search for an 18-something woman to be the new centerpiece of the new story. We still fold time. We will have characters from the future and the present. There will be mostly new characters, but we'll have Arnold and Linda’s characters to anchor it."

So what do you think? Are you excited for Hamilton's return? Are you excited for what Cameron and Miller have planned? Sound off down below!

Regardless of how this movie turns out in the end, at least we won't have to put up with Jai Courtney's no-acting ass again.

They should do a full reboot! They should just have her as a guest star in a total remake.

@MUTO123 - Oh, boy. Looks like another bad video game movie. 0:05 looks like CGI or something. It's not right. The music is wrong and stupid. The last shot in the gun store is stupid. The explosion at 0:45 looks cheap, like SyFy Channel cheap. They look like they've taken exact playable areas from the first rebooted game, but this doesn't look as good.

@Luminus - It just looks generic. If I didn't know any better I'd probably think this was taking place in the same universe as Sahara or some shit.

"We’re starting a search for an 18-something woman to be the new centerpiece of the new story."

You idiots do realize the entire point of the Terminator story is Sahra training her son John to be a badass resistance leader, right?
Where the [frick] is John in all of this if you plan is to hand the series over to a random 18 year old woman.

More stories that don't need to be told.

I would rather Cameron had one a sequel to True Lies back in the 90's before Arnold and Jamie Lee Curtis got too old.

Some things are just better left alone.
