Get Your Own Street-Legal Tron Light Cycle

Get Your Own Street-Legal Tron Light Cycle

Just in time for Tron: Legacy, a Florida bike shop put together 10 custom-built, street-legal Tron Light Cycle lookalikes. For a cool $55,000, you could be riding one to the Dec. 17th premiere.

According to Jeff Halverson of Parker Brothers Choppers, each bike features a steel frame, fiberglass bodywork and a V-twin engine from a Suzuki TLR1000. Stopping power comes from a custom made friction drum that keeps the bike true to the look of Daniel Simon's latest Light Cycle design. Customers have a choice between actual gauges and an iPad dock that displays vital statistics on the iPad's touchscreen.

Though the bike looks like it drove straight off the movie screen, it's not a replica or recreation since the Light Cycles in both Tron films were virtual. "We basically used the images we could get off the web in order to make the bike," said Halverson. "Keep in mind, no one ever made this bike before."

The bike weighs 474 pounds and is just over 100 inches long and 23 inches wide. The rider sits (lies?) 28.5 inches off the ground. Halverson said that it rides like any sportbike, though we've gotta wonder with that huge front tire. Still, we'd welcome the chance to ride one to find out.

Four Light Cycles are still available just in case anyone has us on their shopping list.

Yeah, street legal or not, I probably wouldn't ride that one in traffic. I just want to know how the got the wheels on without hubs.

"Parker Brothers: we just made 10 $55,000 Tron bikes and OH YEAH - our website is fully functional now!" I hope for the price they decked it out with blue lighting strips but you'd think they would've made a point to show that feature if they did it. ("Playboy shoot" footage looks like the bike's light parts are just "reacting" to the blacklights)

I've emailed those guys at parker bros on their site and on youtube when the bike was still in assembly... turnability, they say, is pretty decent... as is the top speed of the bike which is in excess of over 100 miles per hour... but due to the undercarriage being close to the ground, only an idiot would try riding it off-road. There has been some consternation in some of the motorbike forums about the turns and it's inadvisable at high speeds to yank the damn thing at a tight turn.

Honestly, for me, the wheel covers are a bit too wide.... bet that's due to the mechanisms that allows for it to move from what I've seen of the early build videos... and they probably used almost the same tires that they tooled up for the Batpod replica that they made over a year ago.... and it truly is as close to the real thing you can get despite some flaws and current engineering.... it's a decent bike overall. An overgrown kid's street legal toy that most die-hard Tron fans would want to tool around in the city - especially if they're brave enough to also wear the replica motorcycle suit from UD Replicas:

Awesome, but would love to have a street legal Bat-Pod waaaaaay more. They kinda look alike.

I gotta say, for the obvious amount of time, effort, and money these guys put into building these bikes, the video they shot doesn't sell the product well. All we really see is that it looks clumsy, uncomfortable, and can go slowly in a straight line until it reaches traffic.

I'm sure the bike is better than that, but the video just doesn't do it justice at all.

I don't think this was made for fat people. I'd have a hard time riding this bike. Plus if you hit a pot hole or some bump it could knock the wind right out of ya!
