Review Opinion

That's right, yours truly got to watch an advanced screening at her local theater and will now share a very quick, and spoiler-free review.

First off, I have to say this:

OMG, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is one of the funniest and wildest rides I've been on! It's utterly hilarious at every moment, and each performance was so hysterical, I was almost in tears laughing.

I would definitely say the main highlight of the film would be Scott's battles against the seven evil exes; each one is so fabulously over-the-top, and yet they just work. And in the spirit of keeping things as spoiler free as possible, I'm just going say that they are utterly amazing and so fresh and mind-blowing.

The acting is also great and funny too. I actually loved Kieran Culkin's part as Scott's gay roomie; his lines were definitely some of the funniest in this. And Chris Evans (our Captain America) was a surprising highlight for me; his character, as much of a jerk as he was, he was also so funny and even intimidating. And strangely enough, I think Evans' intimidating air can actually benefit his eventual performance as Cap, but I'm probably getting ahead of myself.

However, if I were to make a complaint about this, I'd have to say that it would be Michael Cera's performance. Nothing against him as an actor (I love him in fact), but he sometimes came across as too soft-spoken. However, he did nail the comedy down pat, and he handled the fight scenes with major gusto. I also will admit that I had a problem with the rapid changes in scene; they were sometimes so sudden and fast, I almost got whiplash.

All in all, I'd rate Scott Pilgrim vs. the World an 8.5/10.

Cool review! But what about the other actors? How HAWT was Anna Kendrick in this? Did Routh do a bang up job? Superman worthy? :))

I saw this movie. It was only funny in parts, the rest was just repeating the same jokes over and over again. It got annoyingly repetitive and the pacing was atrocious. Michael Cera was the worst part of the movie for me; I usually don't mind him, but he was just awful. The whole point of the movie was that Scott loved Ramona. I wasn't convinced of that at all.

@ Shaman: Well, for Anna Kendick, I found her sort of underused/barely much screentime to leave a big impression for me. I do like her as an actress though; she was great in "Up in the Air". As for Brandon Routh, I felt a little "meh" about him - while he did have a couple moments, he didn't leave as much of an impression as Chris Evans or Jason Schwartzman did.

@Trebuchet: Yeah, I agree that Cera often did come across as too awkward. I think he really should've been less "Superbad" and more confident in his pursuit of Ramona.

The movie just looks too over-the-top ridiculous to me. I will wait to rent it so I can turn it off if I get tired of looking at Cera's face. :-P
