A scooper simply known as 'Josh' has tipped off SHH that McFarlane is writing Spawn's return to the big screen. And its not a Reboot!

--- "Spawn" creator Todd McFarlane has announced that he has officially begun writing the screenplay for a new movie based on the character.

"The story has been in my head for 7 or 8 years," McFarlane said. "The movie idea is neither a recap or continuation. It is a standalone story that will be R-rated. Creepy and scary."

He added that "the tone of this 'Spawn' movie will be for a more older audience. Like the film 'Departed.'"

In August of 1997, New Line released a Spawn movie that grossed $87.8 million worldwide. It starred Michael Jai White, John Leguizamo and Martin Sheen. ---

I read this news before.. Todd wants a serious tone for the next Spawn movie, where Sam and Twitch will be the lead while Spawn will be the background character like giving clues and catching criminals helping the police duo. I heard Todd likes Twitch to be played by Leo Decaprio. He wants Spawn movie to become a crime movie ala The Dark Knight thats why he compare it to Departed.

Im still a spawn fan and i would love to see another spawn movie but not if he has a minor role in it and not if it gets too over the top with dramatics, i wanna see good supernatural action with, with a story straight from the comic, but knowing hollywood and todd's previous idea, the chances of that are slim.

Well I'm a fan of Spawn and if Todd McFarlane has real control on what goes on for the film. Then it might be good. Only if they just made it like the HBO animated series.

i think another Spawn movie would do very well with the current cgi and effects that are available. BUT! if Spawn isn't featured heavily and fighting a worthy villian then none of it will matter. if we wanted a detective movie we could click on any of an endless number of law&order spinoffs!!

Todd needs to let Spawn do what he does best and that's tear apart Demons and fight the good fight viciously. Bring us a good story with plenty of Spawn action and us fans will support it.

It could be good if he actually puts Spawn in this movie! His previous thoughts on this film has Spawn in a "captain america cameo in Hulk" sort of capacity.
