EDITORIAL: Proving That Paul Giamatti Is Playing Triple J

ElectricSuperman attempts to prove once and for all that Giamatti is not playing Rhino, but J. Jonah Jameson.

So lately on CBM, everyone thinks that Paul Giamatti is playing the Rhino in The Amazing Spiderman 2. I personally think its a bit far fetched, and ridiculous. So without further ado: I shall prove that he is playing Triple J.



First of all, Rhino hasn't been confirmed to be in TASM 2. All we've seen is rumors of it. Our friends at the Daily Bugle, however, have been all but confirmed. Marc Webb said that the Daily Bugle and JJJ would be in the TASM sequel. And on top of that, we have set pictures of a Daily Bugle truck. Top all that with the fact, that we already have a confirmed villain in Electro.

The second point I'd like to bring up is the fact that (and this is somewhat personal opinion), Giamatti is a short, stubby, 45 year old man. Do you really expect someone with his build to be playing a 10 foot monster in a Rhino costume? Really? Even with CGI, he'd still need to bulk up, if even that helped. He even looks like Jameson.

The third point I'd like to bring up is Felicity Jones. Everyone expects her to be playing Felicia Hardy (aka Black Cat). Another personal opinion, but this is a tad bit ridiculous. Why would they have 3 Spidey love interests, the Osborns, and two villains (and possibly Goblin) all in the same movie? Don't you think its a tad far fetched? Jones looks more like Betty Brandt anyways.

I think he COULD be playing JJ well I thought that for awhile now untold Webb tweeted #pravada and a bunch of Russian tattoes. It's a hint to the rhino is is Russian.

I think he is the rhino, and I hope felicity is black cat. 3 love interests will show how much of a pimp spidey is:)

Isn't that the exact same thing ? X is not yet confirmed, and Y is all but confirmed.

I'm gonna go with what imadick said. No proofs in here, only fanboy speculation.

Your points prove nothing & are just your own personal assumptions. That being said, I think Jameson is a safe bet for Giamatti to be playing as well. But there's nothing to confirm that but our own personal points of view.

I don't know how any man or woman can be so daft as to not understand that the Rhino would be a giant MECH that Paul Giamatti would be piloting from the center. Pretty much exactly what we saw with Stane and Iron Monger. Except "like a rhinoceros but bigger".

It ain't hard to understand.

If Giamatti was Jameson, I think I'd pretty much give up completely on this movie out of spite.

In what way does he look more like JJJ than Rhino? He doesn't look like either. Having said that, I'd love for him to play Rhino, and I'm almost certain he said that he was up for the role himself.

FYI, you are aware that this series is taking cues from the Ultimate Spider-Man comics as well as the mainstream ones, right? Ultimate Rhino is a really short guy who sits inside a big suit of armour, and I'm sure that's the route which would be taken if Rhino ever appears on screen (it'd look much nicer on screen than some dude wearing a skin-tight Rhino muscle-costume, and I doubt they'd make him a cross-species like Lizard, as that'd be overkill).

However, I agree that Felicity Jones is more likely to be playing Betty Brandt than Black Cat, as they are seemingly including the Daily Bugle in this one and things would get a bit overcrowded if Peter had to not only struggle between Gwen and MJ but Felicia as well.

It doesn't help that, as far as I've heard, the entire reason people thought Felicity Jones would be playing Black Cat is because Felicity sounds similar to Felicia. The rumour started because the actress has a similar name to the character! Because actors are always better for a role if they have similar names (sarcasm)!

I think several of the castings have been incorrectly identified so far. I do like Giamatti for Rhino if they went the Ultimate route with it...little tiny guy, big suit of armor! I have a feeling Colme is playing Norman Osborne, as opposed to Chris Cooper who I can totally see more as Jameson.

I'd say bring back JK Simmons as JJJ. I once heard someone make a really good point: If Judi Dench can be M in both the Brosnan Bond series and the semi-reboot Daniel Craig series, then JK can be in both series.

I'm hoping Colm Feore is playing JJ. He seems like the right type to play him. Giamatti is great and all, but I still see him playing Rhino. He doesn't have to bulk up to be Rhino. Hell, did Rhys Ifans bulk up for the role of Lizard? No, and he wasn't the same height of Lizard either. I can see an origin story involving Giamatti playing as Aleksei Sytsevich before becoming The Rhino. All the CGI stuff can be him doing the voice, and the motion capture if he has to. It's very possible.

If anything I think that J.K. Simmons should be j.j. Jameson. He's the best choice for it..give him a different type look to fit this movie then it be awesome.

I'm only going to say, no point bringing up his height. Calling him short ignores the fact this is a Hollywood movie and they can make him appear as tall as they need. In real life, he's the exact height as Robert Downey Jr, who although is not the largest man, never in the Iron Man series did he appear painfully short. Plus if they go the Ultimate-ish route, he's gonna have a huge Rhino suit.

Thing is, there's no proof at all in this article, which goal is to prove something. It's all opinions, I believe. On the other hand, Giamatti has expressed his interest to play the Rhino since 2011, while recent report has said that he's indeed "in talks" for the role. Now that's not a sure thing either, but that's a lot stronger than the "proof" brought out by this article.

And so, since what's left of this article is a matter opinion, then I'd say no one has ever said that they can't go the Hulk route with the character. A lot of comments have stated just that above, and I concur with 'em. And no, I don't think a "short, stubby" man is a perfect fit for J. Jonah Jameson, either. The fact that you ignored the presence of Colm Feore in the movie also ridicules me - if anything, he's got a lot bigger chance to play Jameson in it.

actually in the comics rhino was short so thats not a very good reason whe he wouldnt be rhino

Felicity Jones is playing Betty Brant, Colm Feore is playing JJJ and Paul Giamatti is playing Rhino. That's what I believe.

He could possibly play rhino cause isnt rhino in the ultimate series a short nerd guy who is inside a rhino robot
