SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME Director Addresses Captain Britain, Gwen Stacy, And Sinister Six Rumors - EXCLUSIVE

As with any Marvel Studios movie, there were a lot of rumours about Spider-Man: Far From Home before it was released. Well, when I recently sat down to talk to director Jon Watts, I had to ask about some of them and, as you might expect, most of what we heard was inaccurate - which just goes to show how good Marvel Studios is at keeping secrets.

London plays a key role in the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel and following that mention of "Braddock" in Avengers: Endgame, there was a lot of speculation that Captain Britain could make his big screen debut. Unfortunately, it sounds like they simply couldn't find a way to make that work.

"We talked about ways...if we could have come up with a clever way of incorporating Captain Britain, I think we would have," he explains. "There was never really anything that stood out that didn't seem like a shoehorned in reference." That's a shame, especially as the wall-crawler has a history with the hero in the comics (they were roommates).

I later asked Watts about the "leaked" audition tapes which popped up online pointing to the MCU's version of Gwen Stacy being from overseas, but the director confirmed that not only was she never set to make an appearance, but he has "no idea what those are."

Finally, I had to find out more about those rumblings of a a possible appearance from Norman Osborn and the Sinister Six. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear as if there are any plans for the villainous team in the MCU...yet. "We never talked about that for this film. It's just a question of what is the best idea for the story we are telling. Hopefully, the best idea always wins but what's exciting about working with Marvel is that you feel like every idea is always on the table."

You should also watch the video below to see Watts' reaction to being asked about the owner of Avengers Tower, because it definitely seems as if he has an idea!

Feige had a pretty dope interview with BET and confirmed that Ryan Coogler just started writing the outline for BP2 and that he and Nate Moore will be meeting with him to show what they have for the story

I don't have any strong interest in seeing Osborn or the Sinister 6 honestly. Focusing on one villain, especially one we haven't seen before on the big screen before is vital for freshness.

For instance, I'd love if the third Spidey film had Tombstone as the main villain. Dude is a brutal mob boss from the hood and is physically a match for Spidey. In the MCU, he's gone against two science wiz's in mechanical suits. Switch it up.

@KWilly - I'd say go with Jackal and the Clone Saga. It'd be cool to see Peter fighting versions of himself.

@soberchimera - But that's the issue people have with the MCU tho... That the hero always fights a variation of themselves.

@KWilly - that would be super cool and we could get Robbie Robertson in on it too. Or, alternatively...

@KWilly - No, they're fighting a villain with the exact same powers/equipment. Peter would LITERALLY be fighting himself.

@KWilly - That's old school Marvel comics, man. It seemed every 5 issues they were fighting an android/clone/alternate version of themselves.

What does John Watts smell like? I bet he smells like lilacs and rich mahogany. Did you ask him to explain how magnets work? I should've been a journalist.

I would've liked a Sinister Six tease during/after the credits (especially the one that was rumored!), but hopefully I'll like what we're actually getting.

They could still be doing a sinister six build up. Just for maybe way waaaay down the line. Like maybe the end of peters second or third trilogy. Which I would be totally oool with. They could pull death of spider-man and bring in miles. Cause really like with the avengers you got to build up to the sinister six. And this could be a fun way for marvel to flip the idea of the build up to the big team movie on it's head.

Marvel Studios should just bypass Gwen Stacy and focus on Mary-Jane.

Gwen needed to come before MJ so no sense in going down that beaten road again.

Sinister Six is like an Avengers level movie event but with just Spidey. Hopefully they can build up to it one day. I’m hopeful that this film makes serious bank so Sony can sign a bigger deal for Tom and Marvel.

OT:

Paul Rudd joins the cast of Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters.

Wonder what this means for Ant-Man moving forward.
