Green Goblin Almost Appeared in SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE Revealed By Unused Concept Art

Green Goblin almost made an appearance in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, and thanks to some newly really concept art, we can determine how the character might have looked

If I were to guess how many Spider-variants we saw in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, I'd be wasting my time trying to answer such an impossible question.

Green Goblin would be a much different case, as we didn't see the character appear at all!

However, new unused concept art showcasing a few different variants of the Green Goblin which had been considered, and almost made it into the final film have been released, and some of these designs appear relatively interesting at first glance.

So we have an animatronic variant, a Ghost-Rider variant, a skiing variant, and a prehistoric variant riding around on a gargoyle.

There is firstly no mention of where or whenever these Green Goblin variants were initially planned to interfere within the film, as all that is featured is only the images of the different character designs.

When Miles and friends first visit the Spider-Society would be a worthy guess, considering no other moment throughout the film appropriated an arrival for a Green Goblin introduction.

The Go-home machine scene where all multiversal Spider-Man villains are held prisoner until further notice when they can be cleared, and be sent back to their respective dimensions would be most fitting, as there were several goofy iterations of fellow multiversal Spider-Man villains we saw waiting to do so.

Which of these Green Goblin variants would you have liked to see most in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse?

After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn's full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. However, when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders. He must soon redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a 2023 American computer-animated superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Miles Morales / Spider-Man, produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation in association with Marvel Entertainment, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. The sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), it is set in a shared multiverse of alternate universes called the Spider-Verse.

@narrow290 - I hope they introduce the Spider-Norman from the Spider-Geddon series, he was one of the few good things about that comic lol.

I think he would've been there in the art museum. I'm glad they went with Renaissance vulture instead. Much more unique.

I have never understood why Goblin is seen as Spider mans arch nemesis. Spiderman is stronger faster and more resourceful and I don't see him as much of a match for him. The only reason he is thought of so highly is because he killed Gwen.

@Forthas - The same reason Joker’s Batman’s nemesis. Nobody’s inflicted more trauma in Peter’s life than Green Goblin.

@Forthas - I mean, Batman is stronger and more skilled fighter than the Joker, so looking at these things from a power-scale perspective is kinda silly from the outset. Besides, I would say that Spidey and Goblin are more or less equal in raw power (remember, Norman also has super-powers) and Goblin can compensate the difference in speed with his glider.

As for actual reasons why Goblin is Spidey's arch-enemy, well...

*Impact on his life*
- Killed his girlfriend
- Drove his best friend insane and to villainy
- Orchestrated the messiest time period of his life (The Clone Saga)
- Kidnapped/killed his newborn daughter
- Burried his aunt alive
- Tortured and tried to brainwash him to be his successor.

*Connections to his civilian life*
- The father of his best friend.
- Peter's mentor figure pre-finding out his secret.

*Interesting thematic parallels between the two*
- Peter is dirt poor/Norman is rich.

- Peter always puts other people before himself/Norman is ready to step on anyone to reach his goals.

- When part of a superhero team, Peter is usually just a reserve member or the like/Norman made himself the leader of every team he was part of.

All these are better than the Kaiju version we got in the first Spider-Verse movie.

Honestly hated how Goblin was portrayed in the first movie. Already strongly dislike the Ultimate Goblin design, they took everything terrible about it up to eleven and made him, Spider-Man's #1 nemesis, just one of the many lackeys of Kingpin.

The Goblin flying on the Gargoyle is awesome though. That would be such a fun universe to see. Maybe Spider-Man Noir's Goblin?

@SonOfAGif - I think it looks more medieval than anything. Even the gargoyle fits the motif.

The last one came from the Hellboy universe. Mike Mignola would be proud. I can't believe Kris was able to recreate Mike's art style perfectly.
