RESULTS: Here's How You, ComicBookMovie.com's Readers, Rated SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE!

Last weekend, we asked you to cast your votes and rate Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The sequel ups the ante (and the amount of Spider-Heroes on screen at any one time) and has received widespread critical acclaim thanks to a compelling story and jaw-dropping visuals.

In 2018, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse exceeded expectations both critically and commercially, ultimately winning an Oscar.

That understandably led to there being a huge amount of excitement for this follow-up, and between its 96% Rotten Tomatoes score and the fact it's already out-grossed its predecessor, we'd say the sequel is a big win for Sony Pictures (and a much-needed one after Morbius).

Going back to that poll, you voted in your masses and the results are finally in!

A whopping 74.49% of you awarded Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, with 17.81% choosing ⭐⭐⭐⭐. From there, ⭐⭐⭐ received 4.97% of the vote, with ⭐⭐ and ⭐ receiving only 1.37% each.

We're not exactly shocked by this response and all eyes will now be on next March's Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse to live up to this epic second chapter.

"A contender for the best Spider-Man film yet and easily the greatest animated movie ever made," we said in our review"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a jaw-dropping spectacle, a feast for the senses, and an instant Marvel classic."

The movie has generated a lot of discussion since first being released on June 2, especially after a cliffhanger ending which has rightly been compared to The Empire Strikes Back. There's also a popular theory floating around about Spider-Gwen which you can read more about by clicking here

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is now playing in theaters.

Greatest Animated Movie Ever Made?

Akira
Ghost In The Shell
Spirited Away
My Neighbour Totoro
The Jungle Book
Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs
Fantasia
Sleeping Beauty
Toy Story
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 6/12/2023, 9:46 AM
@marvel72 - ATSV is better than all of those. Toy Story 2 is the only one that might hold a candle.

@marvel72 - Eh, those are good choices, and your opinion. I respect it, but...for me, INTSV was one of the few films that seemed to capture that ESB feel. I know some hate 2 parters, but for me growing up watching ESB it was a game changer. I think as what basically amounts to a placeholder film to get to the 3rd installment in the studio-mandated trilogy model it exceeded expectations.

I loved it but I can't say it was better than the 1st one

@narrow290 - yup. I watched Across on Tuesday and then rewatched Into yesterday. The first one was just a bit more fun. The second one just had too much going in.

@TREE24K - It was a lot to take in for sure..I really need a second viewing. I really liked Spider-Punk more than I thought I would

It's a great fantastic movie but to say that is the greatest animated movie of all time and dismiss all the great movies made by Disney, Pixar, Studio Ghibli and others throughout the years, is quite insulting to be fair.

I really liked it, but preferred the first film. I'm looking forward to the final chapter though - that might change my perspective.

Did anyone notice a couple inconsistencies in the animation? Like sometimes you can see Miles's costume underneath his outfit and then in the next shot it's miraculously gone? I saw the film again last night and I thought this was odd. I always figured they could update that pretty easily with animation.

Guess I'm in the minority. I thought it was good not great and that first one was better. Across was too long, convoluted, and misfire for an ending.

I don't like the animation style. Looks too glitchy for me.

@GodHercules20 - I think that's the point. They want to come off as a gradient cell shade at some points and pastels in others. The Lego and original comic worlds were chef's kiss though.

this was just an over-capitalization of the first one. the first one worked so well because of how personal it was and they just overdid it in the polar opposite of the spectrum. 32487812364981273469182736412736 spidermans, miles and gwen's relationship getting mostly side-handed, and [frick]ing stupid multiverse shenanigans overblown to the point of massive ejaculation goodbye im gonna off myself

bobevanz - 6/12/2023, 12:08 PM
@Midnaslament - this movie was an explanation for why the first movie happened. Can't have one without the other
Midnaslament
Midnaslament - 6/12/2023, 12:15 PM
it was pretty good tho, just cant be compared to the other one, 1st one is a creative risk with soul, the 2nd one is much more company-driven creatively. also since when movies without a [frick]ing proper climax are considered the greatest of all time or sht like that???????????

See this is what Sony should be focusing on - less of the random, live-action Spider-Man-less spin-offs that make no sense and are just an attempt at forcing out a Sinister Six Crossover that's meant to be a desperate attempt to compete with the MCU; and more focus on creative, artistic animation with nuanced characters and compelling stories that honour the source material while doing new and interesting things with it.

They've got access to the whole [frick]ing Spider-Verse. There's already rumours that Spider-Gwen will get her own animated spin-off after the trilogy concludes, and there have been rumours for a while about Spider-Man Noir too, but why stop there? Ditch SPUMC or whatever godawful name they're using for it these days, and make Spider-Verse their banner! Give us a Spider-Punk spin-off! Spider-Man 2099! Peter B Parker! The Clone Saga! Hell use it as an excuse to bring Andrew back for TASM 3, and bring Tobey and Sam Raimi back for Spider-Man 4! Lower the output, focus on quality, and be bold and innovative!

@AC1 - I'd love to see a NOIR Spiderman film, they can maybe get the additional NOIR characters in there as well. IRON MAN NOIR was pretty cool.

Definitely a major step-up in the animation department but I liked the first one way more. This one was too long, I could feel the runtime. The first half was boring af, nothing happened. The second half saved it for the most part. 7/10.
