SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE Concept Art Takes Us To A Reality Ruled By The Sinister Six Cartel

Newly revealed concept art from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse reveals an early exploration of Earth-42, a reality that's been conquered by the Sinister Six Cartel, a group of classic Spidey villains.

In the closing moments of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, we discovered Miles Morales had inadvertently left himself stranded on Earth-42, the home of the spider that travelled to Earth-1610 and granted the teenager his amazing abilities.

It's likely the spider was meant to bite Earth-42's Peter Parker, though the movie's cliffhanger kept the spotlight on Miles by revealing Earth-42's "Miles G. Morales" is his world's Prowler in place of his uncle Aaron Davis.

For those of you who were paying close attention, you'll have likely caught a news broadcast in the background mentioning the Sinister Six Cartel. The villainous group has made this New York City their own and a new look at the fallout is revealed in this new concept art from the sequel.

Concept artist @aymeric_kevin (via Toonado.com) says this is, "World exploration. [An] early concept where I was trying to portray a world with no Spider-Man and where the Sinister 6 are running the city."

Green Goblin, Electro, and Scorpion are all featured here, though it's unclear who the other three members of this supervillain team might be. Still, it's fascinating to see the impact these baddies have had on Earth-42 and we're hoping Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will further explore this artist's approach.

We've not seen that many classic villains in this animated franchise (at least not in their classic forms) so pitting Miles and his doppelganger against a group comprised of familiar Spidey foes would be one heck of a fun way to kick off the next movie in style.

Alas, that movie recently lost its release date, leaving Beyond the Spider-Verse now "TBD" after originally being scheduled for next March.

Does Earth-42 have no other superheroes? What about the Avengers?

@Drace24 - to be fair neither of these films has thus far acknowledged Avengers so maybe much like Raimi's Spider-Man, they live in worlds without other established heroes

@Slotherin - Well, Gwen referenced Black Panther. ...But didn't seem to know about Doctor Strange.

Huh.

@Drace24 - I completely missed that! Interesting.

I only recall Miguel namedropping Strange.

@Slotherin - When Gwen met Miguel, she guessed his name was "Blue Panther". Definitely a reference to Black Panther. Then again, she also guessed "Caped Blue-sader" and I doubt Batman exists in her dimension.

Neat but one thing that does strike me as odd is that the Sinister Six are typically a direct response to Spider-Man
