KRAVEN THE HUNTER Star Aaron Taylor-Johnson Talks Challenge Of Marvel Roles And Those JAMES BOND Rumors

Aaron Taylor-Johnson played Quicksilver in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron and will take on the title role in this year's Kraven the Hunter. Now, the actor has weighed in on the challenge of Marvel roles.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is no stranger to superhero movies as his big break came in 2010's Kick-Ass. Five years later, he made the leap to the MCU for Avengers: Age of Ultron and now, nearly a decade on, we'll see him take centre stage in Kraven the Hunter

That's another Marvel movie from Sony Pictures and, after Morbius and Madame Web, it's fair to say fans don't exactly have high hopes for Kraven's big screen debut (in a movie which won't include Spider-Man but does boast a mutant Rhino).

Talking to Rolling Stone, Taylor-Johnson opened up on what drew him to Kraven the Hunter and why he enjoys the challenge Marvel movies present.

"I think there was something unique about this character, and something grounded," the actor said. "We’ve all had enough of seeing certain studio films, a certain kind of pop culture...where they’re churning out stuff that dilutes wanting to go to the cinema. I wouldn’t have signed onto it if I felt there wasn’t something to really bring to life with this character."

"Taking on a Sony / Marvel movie is a different challenge altogether," he later added. "There’s the story, the character, the role; that’s one thing. But then you also step into a world where you’re dealing with a studio and a franchise - or possible franchises, though let’s not get ahead of ourselves."

"So, they’re rolling the dice on me, in a sense, which is a lovely thing. But you’ve got to appease the studio, please the audience and do what’s dignified for you as an actor. I find all of that super challenging."

Just like Morbius backfired on Jared Leto and Madame Web did few favours for Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney, we can't help but think Kraven the Hunter won't end well for Taylor-Johnson. The Venom franchise doesn't appear to have hurt Tom Hardy, though, so we'll see what happens.

On the plus side, the actor does likely have another major franchise on the horizon as the new 007 in James Bond

"I can only really talk about the things I’m going to show and tell," Taylor-Johnson said of the persistent rumours. "I don’t feel like I need to have a future drawn out for me. I feel like: whatever’s drawn out for me, I can f*ckin’ do better."

Directed by J. C. Chandor from a screenplay by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Richard Wenk, Kraven the Hunter stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Alessandro Nivola, Christopher Abbott, and Russell Crowe.

Kraven the Hunter is set to be released in theaters on August 30.

''where they’re churning out stuff that dilutes wanting to go to the cinema''

If anything, Sony is studio that's diluting the genre this year. But I guess he atleast knows he's making a movie with Sony, something Smith or Johnson didn't knew apparantly.

@bkmeijer1 - yeah

I would rather they stick to animation because that’s where they seem to do well in the genre but oh well.

However yeah , I’m glad he atleast knows it’s Sony.

@TheVisionary25 - if they release Beyond the Spider-Verse this year as well, that's four movies in a year for Sony. That's a lot.

But yeah, I rather see them stick to animation as well. And I could see the three live-action movies of this year make them realize it too.

I rememeber a few people on these boards saying it will never be him because of his voice.

The guy can act!

I only hope him and Nolan reteam for the reboot, unlikley, but it will for aure be a hit if we get it.

@UniqNo - if Nolan is in charge, he'll probably bring someone back he worked with before. It's either gonna be ATJ or Robert Pattinson then I bet

@UniqNo - The next installment has Denis Villeneuve. He’s been saying in interviews and such that he has a “secret” project that he has to get off the ground ASAP. Couple that with the fact that he’s openly said in the past that he really wants to do a Bond film. Just seems like that’s where the timing is lining all this up.

@vegetaray - Nolan was also saying he'd really want to do Bond if he gets to put his own spin on it. No better time than a reboot, but i think there's news out there that Bond isn't his next project, so who knows.

I would prefer a Nolan take rather than Villeneuve though. Both are outstanding but i think Denis style is that little bit more niche, i would much prefer his next to be Dune Messiah.

@GhostDog - I honestly was liking the idea of him as Bond more & more but oh well.

Let the rumor mill begin again!!.

Honestly , I thought the Kraven trailer looked alright (don’t kill me lol).

It’s got a good cast which isn’t a new thing for the SUMC however the difference here is the director in JC Chandor…

All of his movies so far have had acclaim to one degree or another (the only one I’ve seen is Triple Frontier which was decent imo) though we have seen directors of that ilk fall victim to big studios before so hopefully there isn’t any interference from the dumbasses over at Sony.

He’s a good actor but he has such a punchable face. His voice reminds me of David Beckham. I can’t see him as Bond. As for Kraven, Russell Crowe feels more like the Kraven we know. I don’t like seeing movies fail but Kraven needs to do Sony can stop making spider junk.

@BeNice123 - Fassbender has been my choice for a few years now but he's said a few times now that he has no interest in playing Bond. At 46, he's also getting close to 'aging out' of the role for a first time Bond even though he's still in great shape.

He's not Bond. I don't see it.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson will finally present a challenge to George Lazenby as worst Bond ever.

@PartyKiller -

Dalton is the most underrated and Brosnan or Moore are the most overrated in my opinion.

I am lowkey interested in Kraven, hopefully it's a decent time at the cinema.

People can surprise you with the Bond casting, but he's still got other projects in store if he doesn't become the new 007.
