MORBIUS: The Jared Leto-Starrer Moves Back One Week; Now Officially Set For IMAX Release

Jared Leto's Morbius has been pushed back by one week, but it's for a good reason as it's now being reported that the Sony Pictures-backed Spider-Man spinoff will indeed receive an IMAX release!

After a series of delays throughout last year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Sony Pictures has decided to move back Daniel Espinosa's Morbius one more week, this time from January 21 to January 28, 2022.

However, unlike the previous pandemic-related postponements, this time it's for a good reason. The film has officially been confirmed for an IMAX release, which should make a notable difference at the global box office come next January.

Morbius will now open opposite Universal/Blumhouse's The Black Phone, which has Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange) directing and Ethan Hawke (Moon Knight) playing the lead.

The move also creates some much-needed space away from the massive January 14 logjam that is currently slated to see Universal's The 355 starring Jessica Chastain and Penélope Cruz; 20th Century Studios' Deep Water starring Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas; Paramount's Scream starring Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox; Warner Bros.' Sesame Street starring Anne Hathaway and Chance the Rapper; and Sony's The Man from Toronto starring Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson all opening on the same day.

The upcoming Spider-Man spinoff stars Academy Award-winner Jared Leto (Blade Runner 2049Suicide Squad) in the title role with a supporting cast that contains Matt Smith (Terminator: GenisysDoctor Who), Adria Arjona (6 Underground; Triple Frontier), Jared Harris (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.Chernobyl), Al Madrigal (I'm Dying Up HereAbout a Boy), Tyrese Gibson (F9Transformers), and Michael Keaton (Spider-Man: HomecomingBatman) as the Vulture.

One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed and transforms this healer into a hunter.

The hype is real for this MCU movie.

And with that....time to leave the thread! :3

If he does well in the role, put him in a Blade movie

@dracula - I think his run in with Blade is inevitable. At least that’s what I’m hoping. As a matter of fact I’m still holding out for a Blade cameo at the end of Morbius. But hey, that’s just me.

@dracula - "If he does well in the role"...

Did you see his "performance" as the Joker? 😝

@Feralwookiee - yes he sucked, but he has other roles

@dracula - I enjoyed him getting killed in American Psycho, but that was more due to Bale's performance.
Other than that, it seems like he doesn't bring much to the table imo.

@Feralwookiee - he was great in Dallas Buyers Club and Blade Runner 2049.

If a CBM releasing in January isn't a red flag, I don't know what is.

This is probably going to make 400-500 milion and it could be a win for Sony. Just as long as they keapt the budget under 150 milion

On one hand I love vampires, on the other hand I really don’t like Jared Leto, on the other hand I like Spider-Man, but on the other hand I think what Sony is doing to the brand is dumb, so I’m not sure where I stand on this.

I’m kind of okay that this exists. My only problem is the terrible color filters and cheap CGI that Sony keeps using. I know some are a fan of the design, but the Venom cgi was early 2000s trash

@JFerguson - There are moments in Venom where the effects GLITCH. And every scene where Tom Hardy interacts with either the Venom head or Riot took me back to that scene from the special edition of Star Wars where Han goes to talk to Jabba and he steps on Jabba's tail and they actually have to photoshop Harrison Ford up and down to make it look like he's standing on something. It's embarassing.
