Hot Toys' Updated SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Doctor Octopus Figure Leaves Fans Asking, "Who The F*** Is That?"

Hot Toys' new Doctor Octopus figure has finally started hitting online retailers, but there are many fans who believe the company has majorly dropped the ball on this Spider-Man: No Way Home villain...

If you're a Hot Toys collector, then you'll no doubt be aware that one of their biggest draws is how screen-accurate the figures are. That goes for their costumes and head sculpts, with the latter becoming increasingly realistic in recent years.

Some recent releases - such as the Scarlet Witch and Loki - are scarily accurate, and Doctor Octopus (based on his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home) has finally started arriving in stores after first being announced a couple of years ago.

At the time, plenty of fans found fault with the figure due to the fact it didn't really resemble Alfred Molina. The actor was digitally de-aged in the Marvel Studios blockbuster to better resemble his appearance in 2004's Spider-Man 2 but that still failed to explain Hot Toys' approach to the sinister villain.

While some updates have definitely been made since then, the final version is being widely ridiculed across platforms like Instagram and Reddit, with collectors roasting a take on Doc Ock many have deemed as being downright unrecognisable.

That seems a tad harsh as this is obviously Molina's Otto Octavius. However, there's definitely something not quite right here and a lot of people are vowing cancel their pre-orders rather than add such a "monstrosity" to their collections.

Do you think Hot Toys has dropped the ball with this iconic Spider-Man villain? Check out some photos below and then head to the comments section to let us know your thoughts.

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, for the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighbourhood hero's identity is revealed, bringing his superhero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk.

When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.

The movie stars Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jon Favreau, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, J. B. Smoove, Benedict Wong, J.K. Simmons, Alfred Molina, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, Thomas Haden Church, and Rhys Ifans.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now available to buy wherever movies are available.

Some angles look stranger than others but it’s a toy. Can’t believe anyone is getting irate over it.

@thedrudo - For a toy that costs about three hundred dollars, it should look better.

The people that are angry about this toy should go home, take a nap, and rethink their life choices.

I don’t blame collectors for being annoyed with this. When you’re paying $300 to $400 for a collectible you want it to to look as screen accurate as it can. This one looks like the lunch lady from my childhood elementary school. 🤷‍♂️

@DrReedRichards - with Hot Toys? Not sure, but I remember the not long ago they had another not-so-good looking one. Just don't remember which one it was

@bkmeijer1 -

Supergirl, if I'm not mistaken. Looked more like Matt Smith than Sasha Calle.

The people complaining are rich enough to want to have purchased it otherwise no problem. Imagine such an issue in life...

Not that I've ever collected these or ever will, but I think people are blowing it out of proportion; it's pretty accurate, but I think the issue is that they've chosen an awkward facial expression to recreate - if it had been more expressive (e.g. more angry/aggressive) or more neutral then it might look less odd, but the fact that it's in a strange middle ground where he's kinda half smiling makes it look a bit confusing. Like is this meant to be when he smirks during his fight on the bridge and sees MCU Spidey's nanotech arms for the first time? Or is this later on when he's cured and he's happy and grateful to MCU Peter? Or later still when he's reuniting with his Peter and expressing how proud he is and how happy he is to see him? I feel like the ambiguity is the real issue.

It looks like Richard Kind. And I mean that as a compliment.

It's a coin-flip between which looks worse: Doc Ock or Sasha Calle's Supergirl figure. 🤨

Hot Toys very rarely get their likenesses wrong and even though this isn't one of their best, it still looks like Alfred Molina. I think the worst likeness I've seen them do is Sasha Calle's Supergirl. That one doesn't look much like her at all.

There’s some third parties that are actually doing some figures way better than Hot toys now. I’d wait for those if I collected.
