Sony Pictures exec and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse producer Amy Pascal announced that a fourth movie is in-development earlier this week, and star Tom Holland has now confirmed that he is set to return as Peter Parker... eventually!

Holland said he planned to take a long break from playing the wall-crawler after No Way Home's release, and while the actor is now officially "in talks" to reprise the role, the ongoing WGA strike has thrown a temporary spanner in the works.

“I can’t talk about that," Holland told Variety when asked about plans for Spider-Man 4. "But I can say that we have been having meetings. We’ve put the meetings on pause in solidarity with the writers. There’s been multiple conversations had, but at this point it’s very, very early stages.”

Despite Holland hinting that he might be done playing Spidey after No Way Home, nobody really believed that he was ready to hang up the costume just yet, so his return won't come as much of a surprise. However, the news that Zendaya will also be back as MJ has received something of a mixed response after the events of the last movie.

At the end of No Way Home, Spider-Man asked Doctor Strange to cast a spell to make the whole world forget that Peter Parker exists - including his girlfriend MJ and best pal Ned. Clearly, this is either going to be reversed, or Parker will simply strike up a new relationship with MJ, as he was initially planning to do in the closing moments of the movie before changing his mind.

We probably won't find out any plot details for quite a while, but fans are hoping that this next film will finally give us the face-to-face meeting between Spidey and Venom we've been waiting for.

@PlusUltra - With the trailer for PS5 game coming in autumn, Across Spider-verse knocking the roof off all the expectations and now finally getting news on Spider-man 4. Ride the big red web, my man. Now all we need to complete this is something superb on the comic front. Maybe a second annual to Spider-man: Life Story or something.

Are you telling me Sony hasnt signed him yet? starts to make sense why they are teasing the Miles Morales live action movie, might be a back-up plan if they dont cant Holland back...word since 2021 is that he is asking "RDJ numbers" to come back, and Sony keeps refusing to pay him that.

@TheHumanSpider2 - They’ve signed him, they’re just not letting anything on yet. A lot of these talks involve Marvel Studios as well, their plans, and so on. Now the OG Avengers are done, Spider-Man is once again the biggest franchise at Marvel. It’s a big announcement they’re not going to give away in an interview.

@PlusUltra - When it comes to Spiderman, is all Sony, especially now that the MCU is not in the...best of places, and Sony is swiming in money between NWH, Venom, and Spiderverse 2.
Heck, Avi Arad pretty much retired after NWH, but now he is back doing press tours.

Holland is still talking about "meetings", and its been almost 2 years of him keep saying the same thing...he also said years ago that RDJ once told him "if you are still playing Spiderman when you are 30, your career is over", and I think that meant a lot to him, so if his career is over, he might as well become filthy rich by still making these movies.
On the other hand, Sony has a history of taking bad decisions to save money when it comes to Spiderman.

@TheHumanSpider2 - That's simply not true. Spider-Man is not all Sony. Marvel Studios is the creative force behind this last trilogy. Sony is the distributor. There are even interviews with Rothman that he says this. And this is why you see "Marvel Studios" on the title of these films instead of "Sony".

They also have a profit split for each film--naturally, since each studio plays a different role in its production.

As for "MCU not being in the best of places"... um, have you seen Sony's bs Morbius numbers? And Venom is hardly a hit. Venom 2 made $500M WW. That's it.

Meanwhile, Marvel Studios is still, BY FAR, the most successful film franchise in history. They've realistically only had a few misses. With GotG3, being their latest film, doing great numbers and with excellent reviews. You want to talk about swimming in money? No one has a bigger pool than Marvel Studios. Whether I'm a fan or not, this is just facts.

At the end of the day, is Fox making better CBMs? Nope, gone and ended their run with some of the worst CBMs ever made. Is DC making better CBMs? Nope, never even got off the ground and getting rebooted. Is Sony making better [live action] CBMs? Nope, everything after the Sam Raimi directed SM2, everything spidey live action related has ranged from subpar to downright awful.

Their Spider-Verse animated films are the only quality thing they're putting out. It's glaringly obvious this is their lane but they're desperately wanting to be the MCU so bad they keep making Spider-Man spinoffs with NO Spider-Man.

@Tonic24k - Sony OWNS the live action rights for Spiderman. I'm not having this discussion in 2023, after 7 years when you LITERALLY saw Sony taking Spiderman out of the MCU at one point, and having to sit down with Disney to make a new deal to keep him in.
Marvel Studios has creative input, but Sony has the final saying in any creative decision they take, this was announced back in 2014, that almost a decade ago, and was confirmed several times by both Kevin Feige and Tom Rothman, who famously said "I have the final word in these movies, but Kevin knows how to make money, so I listen to Kevin"...NWH had a [frick]ing thank you note to Avi Arad in the credits, not Kevin Feige, AVI ARAD.

If you like Spiderman solo movies, you like Sony movies, if you support Spiderman solo movies, you are supporting Sony.
The only difference between these movies is that the Spiderverse movies are being made by Pascal Productions, and that the movies featuring MCU characters have to be aproved by Disney (just like MCU movies featuring Spiderman have to be aproved by Sony), that is why you didnt see any MCU characters in the first Venom movie (despite they announcing that movie was part of the MCU), and you didnt see Spiderman in Civil War's marketing.

Seriously, is 2023, I'm not discussing this.

@TheHumanSpider2 - Lol! Well you need to have this discussion in 2023 because you've proven time and time again you don't know what you're ever talking about. Sony OWNS a license for cinematic rights, yes. And those cinematic rights are being shared now to co-produce these films with Marvel Studios. And you said it yourself, Kevin Feige knows how to make money so Rothman listens to HIM. MARVEL STUDIOS IS CREATING THESE FILMS. That is NOT creative INPUT. That is creative CONTROL. Sony is just acting as distributor and nodding their heads to what FEIGE says. These are FACTS. And Sony pulling out was just just renegotiating because of how successful MARVEL STUDIOS made these films. Which btw, better than any spider-man projects Sony has made themselves.

With all this said, SM1 and 2 were good. SM3 was shit. ASM1 and 2 were shit. Venom is shit. And Morbius is worse than shit. If you like THOSE films, you like Sony. If you like the Holland Spider-Man films, you like Marvel Studios. That is why MARVEL STUDIOS is on the TITLE of these films. And the opening credits are MARVEL STUDIOS. Not the generic "In association with Marvel" shit Sony has for their own films.

And of course they were released on Netflix before D+. SONY IS THE DISTRIBUTOR. That's how they worked out the deal. Negotiations take time and planning. But now Venom is also on D+. And the rest of the spidey films are on their way. They were clearly just getting their content on streaming platforms before they finalized a streaming deal with Disney.

I want to see Benicio del Toro playing a new role in the MCU. Benicio as Ezekiel in the new spider trilogy when Morlun debuts.

Are we? I thought fans were hoping that this next film will finally give us the street-level, NYC based Spidey, doing battle with the Kingpin.

Spider-Man 4: team up with Daredevil. Fights Kingpin, Maggia, Tombstone, and Hammerhead. Symbiote attaches itself to Peter at the very end or post credit scene.

Avengers Secret Wars: black suit Spider-Man fights with the Avengers.

Spider-Man 5: symbiote comes off Peter and then grows into Venom. This version of Venom is without Eddie so it has no direction but to eat and kill. It mimics Spider-Man and puts the white spider on its chest. Introduce Miles Morales working for FEAST and he becomes friends with Peter. Peter defeats Venom with hep from Miles.

Spider-Man 6: Alistair Smythe and the Jackal steal DNA from Spidey and Venom fight and creates clones of Peter. Clone saga essentially. Ben Reilly aka Scarlet Spider is created and answers to Smythe and Jackal. Miles accidentally gets his powers from the clone facility. Peter trains Miles throughout the movie while investigating this rogue Scarlet Spider. Scarlet, Peter and Miles come together at the end and fights deformed versions of Spider-Man and Smythe and Jackal. Scarlet dies and Peter loses his powers somehow and Miles takes over as the new Spider-Man while Peter goes to live a normal life.

New 6 movie saga with Miles Morales as the new Spider-Man in the MCU.

Ya’ll always throw the most random conjecture at the ends of these articles.

Pretty sure most people don’t want to see “TH come face to with Venom in the next film”… Also pretty sure most people would just like to see a grounded/street level story involving Daredevil or Kingpin.

Symbiote story would be cool down the line, not yet though. And certainly not with the Tom Hardy venom…
