Yesterday, the news broke that Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts has parted ways with Marvel Studios' planned Fantastic Four reboot, and Deadline's report contained an interesting update on the wall-crawler's big screen future that seems to have flown under the radar.
The trade notes that "Sony and its Spider-Man producers have made it clear they expect to reunite Watts with Holland and Zendaya to continue the series. Watts hasn’t officially dropped out of that franchise, but if it were to happen, it does sound like it would be down the road."
While the news that Sony would like another Spider-Man movie shouldn't come as much of a surprise to anyone following the massive success of the trilogy - and No Way Home, in particular - previous reports have indicated that Watts may be thinking about stepping away and letting another director take over. Similarly, Holland has suggested that his time in the iconic blue and red may be coming to an end.
Of course, this doesn't mean official talks have taken place, and even if they have, a fourth movie is likely a long way off.
What would Spider-Man 4 even look like after the events of No Way Home? We assume Doctor Strange's spell will either be reversed or altered so that at least some people (MJ and Ned, basically) remember Peter Parker, but there are a few different ways the story could go. Hopefully, we'll have a better idea of what to expect once we see In The Multiverse of Madness.
