SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Star Tom Holland Reportedly Hasn't Signed Up For More SPIDER-MAN Movies Yet

Spider-Man: No Way Home became one of the highest-grossing movies of all time when it was released last year, but it sounds like star Tom Holland is no closer to signing a new deal with Sony and Marvel.

Tom Holland first played Spider-Man in 2016's Captain America: Civil War, and while there's no denying that movie was always destined to be a hit, the wall-crawler's presence definitely propelled the blockbuster to greater heights. The same can be said for his subsequent MCU appearances, while all three of the character's solo outings were incredibly successful. 

The latest, Spider-Man: No Way Home, earned nearly $2 billion at a time the box office was struggling to rebound from COVID, surely making Spider-Man 4 a top priority for Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios. 

However, as we heard repeatedly during the press tour, Holland is looking to take a break from Spidey and no longer appears to be contractually obligated to make any future appearances (beyond a possible cameo somewhere). While you'd think Spider-Man: No Way Home's success would have resulted in the actor signing a new big-money deal, it appears that's not the case. 

In a new report from The Ankler, it's revealed that, "While plans are in motion for another Spidey trilogy starring Tom Holland, I don’t believe he has actually signed a deal yet, so those plans remain unofficial for now."

"That said, I’m sure that more Spidey adventures with Holland are a top priority for Rothman & Co.," the report continues, "which is also counting on him as the anchor of its budding Uncharted franchise as well."

Reliable sources have previously reported that Spider-Man 4 is in the very early stages of development, so common sense says that something is brewing. With Spider-Man: No Way Home - The More Fun Stuff Version set to debut in theaters this September, another round of big box office receipts should encourage both studios to give Holland whatever he desires.

Honestly I wouldn't mind a new actor taking over at this point. No way home left things in a very different place than the previous trilogy, and I think it'd be cool having a different actor portray the character in a college setting. Not saying that's an ideal situation, but more of a silver lining one.

It's the James Bond of our time. Different actors get a trilogy. I think Holland is a smart fellow and I don't think he signs up for more Spidey if Marvel isn't involved. Sony has demonstrated over the years that they are not capable of making good movies consistently and have served up some absolute stinkers.

Might get hate for this, but Holland is the best incarnation of Peter/Spider-Man yet. Not saying Tobey and Andrew are bad, but Holland is the most balanced one.

With what NWH set up I really want Tom back playing a slightly more mature Spidey who's a bit more in-line with the (classic) comics and the recent games - young adult, dealing with college/work/life/heroics, and maybe that trilogy could eventually introduce Miles Morales as his protege. After a solo trilogy set in High School and 3 team movies in and around those, it could be really special seeing this version of Spidey in the next phase of his life.

ahhhh yeah this site never fails me. negative comments like clockwork. if spidey 4 is in early development then it will be a minute before they complete negotiations with holland's people for contract. doesn't mean he don't want to do it or sony is going to try to recast him. all parties involved would be fools if they ignore that 2 billion dollar box office receipt during a pandemic surge of omicron at that. especially holland who obviously enjoys the role and has a lot of contract leverage with that box office take. hell he loves the role so much he was instrumental in brokering peace between sony and disney when sony initially tried to take all the spiderman toys back for themselves. they basically gonna pay the man what he wants. we had these same contract panic attacks with downey, hemsworth, evans etc. its the age old hollywood contractual song and dance...that like before ends with everyone happy and more movies.

@supermanrex - ditto! Plus Holland needs Spiderman. So far nothing outside of it has really struck him gold. Not saying that he won't find that gem, but ATM I feel like Spiderman is what's keeping him in the public eye. Can't see him walking away from it any time soon.

@RedFury - He doesn’t ‘need’ it though. He could quite literally retire from acting and live off of what’s already there. We may not see 100 movies with him in them but I can bet we’ll see him starting a production company within the next half dozen years that pushes some solid work out the door. He seems to be learning to navigate that world from people that are well versed in surviving within it.

@Deklipz - haha yeah that's true, he could vanish and live a very happy life with that Spiderman money. I do hope that he does what you suggested and starts aligning his own projects. The dude has talent, and it'll be wasted if he keeps doing tent polls like Uncharted.

@RedFury - I hope so. I like his spider-man, and look forward to more. I’d like to see him have a couple roles that push him more as an actor though as well. I think he could grow into one hell of an actor given the opportunity.

@Urubrodi - think it’s just cause since 2015/2014 He’s been knocking out spider man stuff back to back with no breaks . He’ll probably come back, just wants a break that he’s deservedly earned, almost 10 years of his life has been a whirlwind and he’s like 26

@ShimmyShimmyYA - as long as he gets those breaks like you said where he can go flex his creative wings in between spidey stints he wont feel trapped and will want to do more. cause spidey the college years is an awesome natural progression that is rife with opportunity. would love to see him at empire university. he fought to keep spidey in the MCU he will stay a bit longer im sure.
