SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Writer Reveals Another Scrapped Idea For Tom Hardy's Venom

Spider-Man: No Way Home co-writer Chris McKenna has confirmed that Venom was once set to factor into the movie's final battle, while revealing another scrapped idea for Eddie Brock in the threequel...

Venom: Let There Be Carnage's post-credits scene appeared to be a real game-changer for the MCU after unknown Multiversal madness pulled Eddie Brock into that world. Venom showed a great deal of interest in Peter Parker, and it looked like the stage was being set for the symbiote to clash with the wall-crawler either in Spider-Man: No Way Home or a future movie.

The alien anti-hero was nowhere to be found in the threequel, but showed up in a mid-credits scene revealing that Eddie had never bothered leaving Mexico. With that, he was sent back to his own world, leaving behind a piece of the symbiote we're assuming will somehow travel to New York.

It all ended up feeling a bit tacked on and pointless (Sony gonna Sony...), but Spider-Man: No Way Home co-writer Chris McKenna confirmed during a recent interview with Empire (via Digital Spy) that they did have other ideas about how to include Venom. "We were going to try to have him show up at the Statue of Liberty [for the final fight]," he started, reiterating past comments.

"And we were even toying with having him stuck in the Lincoln Tunnel," McKenna added, presumably referring to a post-credits scene revealing Venom had made it to New York but got stuck in traffic.

That might have actually been fun to see, and a cab driver could have easily subbed in for the barman who told Eddie all about the MCU's crazy side. It's still makes for an unsatisfying end to his time in that world, but at least it would have pointed to him and Venom trying to take a bite out of Spidey!

As of right now, it doesn't look like Toms Holland and Hardy will be given the opportunity to share the screen as these characters, but there's always a chance the MCU has its own Eddie Brock...

I mean both sound better than the whole bar scene. It just seemed like a wasted opportunity to at least introduce Eddy to Parker.

would he have worked with the furious five and become the sinister six or would he have teamed up with the spidermen?

Imo the movie should probably have been 30 minutes longer. That way Eddie/Venom could have had a decent role. They could also gave used some of the time to further develop Sandman and Lizard. Throw in a green mutated Norman and the movie would have been everything people could have asked for.
Not that the film isn't good the way it is.

@ChrisRed - Let the Lizard further transform with the snout and lab coat, and it would be perfect.

@dragon316 - Yea, but I've always preferred the lab coat and ripped shorts. It's a nice visual reminder of intelligence on an otherwise monstrous form.

Yeah I didn't care for the post-credits scene with him that they left in. It was

Venom in the MCU wasnt a complete waste, the symbiote is now in the MCU

but saying that, its really annoying that was the extent of Hardy in the MCU. i would have loved it if he stuck around somehow.

Getting stuck in traffic could have been fun. I like the idea of a cab driver being utilized to give Eddie some Spidey info.

Venom: Ask him about that guy on TV
Eddie: Hey, you know anything about that guy on TV? Superhero...tights...has that symbol on his chest.
Driver: Buddy, they've all got symbols on their chest.
Venom: There's more of them?!
Eddie: It's like a...spider. Got legs stretching out...
Driver: Uhh...Spider-Man?
Venom: That's the guy!
Eddie (to Venom): Hey, why don't we have a symbol? We could do like a snake or an alien thing with fangs and claws. Something scary.
*Driver looks confused*
Venom: Eddie! Focus!
Eddie (to Venom): I'm just saying, could be cool...(to Driver) Yeah, Spider-Man. What's his deal?

Something like that. And then just have them stuck in traffic, and when they try to run on foot, they're sent back to their universe.

These two should never meet. No offense to Tom Hardy but this Venom is ridiculous. The MCU Spider-Man/Peter Parker has been set up so nicely.... we need a Venom iteration that is the same quality. Just my opinion.

Honestly it would have been better than using old footage for Lizard and Sandman

I feel like Sony forced a MCU post credit scene on Marvel, thinking it would boost Venom 2 interest and bring there universes together. Then it felt like Marvel/Disney gave them the finger by having him not interact and instantly vanish

Even if it this Venom never actually met a Spider-Man, I do think having him as the sixth villain would've been cool. Guess his presence didn't service Holland's Spider-Man though, so maybe better he wasn't there

They should've had him just be stuck in the Lincoln tunnel all movie. Have every scene of him desperately trying to get to the action just to finally get transported back home.

At least had he been stuck in the Lincoln tunnel it would have meant the bit of Symbiote left behind was in NYC and not Mexico or wherever that was supposed to be… which would have required a lot less work for it to ultimately matter in a sequel.
