New information from Sony indicates that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has taken the number one spot at the box office in its first weekend of release.

With a total of 4,313 venues, including IMAX and PLF screenings, the film earned $51.85 million on Friday, $37.4 million on Saturday, and is anticipated to make $31.25 million today (Sunday).

The opening weekend total for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in the United States was $120.5 million, which is more than triple the opening weekend total for its predecessor, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which was released in 2018. 

This movie has the second-biggest opening of 2023 to date, beating Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In addition to that, it is Sony Pictures Animation's best opening weekend ever, and it is the third-largest opening weekend for any Spider-Man movie.

As compared to Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse's opening weekend. Opening to the tune of $35.4 million at domestic box offices during its first weekend in theaters. The budget for the movie was once estimated to be somewhere between $28 and $35 million.

It is important to note that these numbers only pertain to the first weekend of the film's release in the United States and do not necessarily include revenue from other countries' box offices.

Both critics and moviegoers have given Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse positive reviews, which has contributed to the movie's overall financial success. The movie has received a score of 95% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 96% from audience members, certifying it as "Fresh".

In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Shameik Moore's voice of Miles Morales makes a cameo appearance. He is joined by Spider-Gwen, whose voice was provided by Hailee Steinfeld, and Peter B. Parker, whose voice was provided by Jake Johnson, for another exciting journey beyond the multiverse. New characters, including Spider-Woman Jessica Drew (whose voice is provided by Issa Rae), Spider-Punk (whose voice is provided by Daniel Kaluuya), and Pavitr Prabhakar (whose voice is provided by Karan Soni) are presented in the film. 

In the second installment of the franchise, Miles Morales faces competition from the Spider-Society, which is commanded by Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac's voice). In addition to that, a brand new antagonist by the name of Spot, who is voiced by Jason Schwartzman, joins in on the action.

The trio of Chris Miller, Phil Lord, and Dave Callaham wrote the script for the movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson were the film's directors. The story of Spider-Verse will be expanded upon in the film, and it will also lay the groundwork for subsequent parts.

For everything else I mentioned aswell as the animation...the writing, the soundtrack and score... that's why Guardians 3 was a hit imo.

Don't forget Disney were also the ones who fired Gunn... before giving into pressure.

I wish I had the same religious experience that everyone seems to be having with this movie. I was already not as big of a fan of the first one as many, people, and I was hoping that I would "get it" with this one, but they're fairly at the same level for me. Don't get me wrong, I've had a great time with both, with mainly the animation doing a lot of the lifting, but I don't get the whole "greatest of all time" conversation that I've been seeing around. I'm glad that people are liking them though, and hopefully, the third time is the charm for me.

@Fares - I posted something similar in another article. It’s really good and fun to watch but didn’t leave me feeling like it was anything special. I don’t have any real desire to watch it again for example. I’d watch guardians 3 again before I watched this one again.

@Fares - I had a similar experience after coming out of the theater. I know this is a great movie and I had a great time, The animation was beautiful, the story is good, etc... but I was still left unsatisfied. Intentionally too cuz there is a part two to the story so I think this movie will be better once it is seen back to back.

And personally, I didn't care too much for some of the cameos. Won't say which for spoiler reasons.

For me, I think seeing the glowing reviews beforehand influenced my watching experience greatly. The movie was going on, and instead of letting myself perceive it organically, I was preoccupied with the notion that a turning point must be coming that will take this movie from good to "masterpiece", and it never came. So instead of enjoying what I had, I was waiting for something that wasn't there.

@BatmanBeenDrinking - There were a couple people in front of me who were totally freaking out about seeing different cameos, but it seemed so forced. Are you really that excited about a cameo in an animated movie? Cameos shoehorned in seemed really unnecessary.

Spider-Man 1 and 2, Homecoming, Far From Home, No Way Home, Into and Across the Spider-Verse were successful because Sony didn’t get in the way and let Disney, Sam Raimi, and Lord & Miller take charge and do their thing. When Sony gets in the way and tries to be in charge of creative, Spider-Man 3, Amazing 1 and 2, Venom 1 and 2, and Morbius happens. You see the trend? This is why Venom 3, Madame Web, Kraven and that Lucha wrestling movie is going to fail because Sony will Sony.

@Order66 - I've seen people saying that the spot as the villain was mandated by Avi Arad, but I have no reliable source on that. Whether it's true or not, I think what's more important than studio interference is hiring the right people. If you got a lacklustre script and an okay director, you can't expect much, even if the studio remains hands-off. But talented creatives can manoeuvre their way around studio mandates much better and still provide a solid product.

A. The Spider-man movies wouldve been better.
B. The Sonyverse would be connected to the MCU because Amy and Kevin would actually work together instead of being held back.

@Fares - It was not an Arad mandate but it was his idea. He brought up the character to Lord and Miller who laughed about him being a villain of the week until they realized they could use that to the character's advantage. I will give Arad credit for that, but a broken clock and all, plus Arad only knew of The Spot cause he was involved in the 90s show and John Semper did a Spot episode on that.

@UniqNo - Avi Arad clearly knows how to produce movies, he has a problem, though...he likes money too much, and sometimes that gets in the way of him producing good movies.
Spiderman 3 was too expensive? reboot, Amazing 1 made less money? the next movie has to launch an entire cinematic universe, that didnt work? reboot again, Disney doesnt let us put the rest of our characters in their universe? [frick] 'em, we'll have a Spiderman Cinematic Universe without Spiderman.
In recent years he seems more open to basically do whatever Amy Pascal (the one who OBVIOUSLY knows what she is doing) tells him to do, however, sometimes greed takes over, and he puts money on things like Morbius or Kraven...and Venom worked by accident.

@UniqNo - Arad has an impressive resume of CBM producer and executive producer credits. A lot of duds and many hits on that list. Kevin Feige was a producer on many of those duds before joining Marvel Studios.

Already saw it twice. Amazing film that deserves to be seen on the big screen. From the second the introduction logos started, it felt like you were transported to a whole new world and the movie screen was the looking glass.

@Himura - Right from the first second the ingenuity of the movie was on display.

That little "cough" sound effects visual that came on the screen appeared directly above somebody in the theater who actually coughed. Utter genius. I wonder how many times this was right on cue and right on target.

This movie was a visual masterpiece full of heart and all the flare of a high tier blockbuster. They rarely make them like this, and everybody needs to be taking notes.
