Ozy Revisits Spider-Man 2

Sam Raimi's second Spider-Man film is usually hailed as one of the greatest CBM's ever. Does it live up to it's acclaim? Or has it always been somewhat over-rated? Hit the jump for my take...

After revisiting some Alien and Predator films, and two DC films, I thought it was time to head to Marvel for my next revisit. I decided to start with Spider-Man 2, the film that is always acclaimed by everyone. I meant to post this yesterday but I actually had to watch this movie two times to get my score for it right! Also I will be skipping the plot as I'm sure everyone has seen this movie (if you haven't then see it!).

So we all know the plot for this one. Spidey struggles with his powers and his double life he now leads. New villain comes along called Dr. Octopus. Mary Jane is getting married. Harry Osborn seeks vegeance for his father. That's pretty much your plot right there. As far as the acting goes, everyone in this film does a great job. Tobey Macguire gives a outstanding performance as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, taking the role where we had never seen it before. Kristen Dunst is even good in this, by far her best performance out of all three Spider-Man movies. Although in a few scenes she does get somewhat annoying. James Franco, great as always of course. He brings the revenge to Harry Osbourne, especially when he unmasks Spidey and has the hallucinations of his father at the end of the movie. But another welcoming presence is Alfred Molina who steals the show as Doc Ock. Even though he his the villain, Molina's performance gives symphathy for the character, especially at the end of the film. J.K. Simmons of course is always great as J. Jonah Jameson. Rosemary Harris is also good as Aunt May.

The CGI and fight scenes in this movie are great. One of my favorites is the train scene where Spidey gets to save the train and all of the people in it. Another cool scene is in the beginning where he has to deliver the Pizza's, I thought it was a funny scene. Also the scene where Harry finds his father's lair and discovers that he is the Green Goblin is very powerful. As far as bad stuff about this movie goes....well, we kind of do see a little to much Peter Parker and not enough Spider-Man. Also the movie does go a little slow and drags on in a few scenes but it doesn't hurt the film. The only other thing I didn't like was the ending. Yes, we knew there was going to be a third movie but I still didn't like the ending, it was a cliffhanger.

Anyway, Spider-Man 2 is still a great CBM. Not my favorite, but still a great movie. Sam Raimi really made a great film and for that I think him. Hopefully, Marc Webb's reboot will be as good as this!

9/10

Spider-Man 2 was the best out of the three but my main issues was that how the hell is Dock Oct going to take a punch from Spidey?! I know Spider-Man could pull his punches, but for one, it definitely doesn't look like that and even if he did he should have been able to take him in one shot like he did in the comic.

Personally I think it would have been cool that Spider-Man could never get close enough to him, maybe toss Doc around but never be able to land a finger on him until the end. I think that would have made Doc Oct a little more of a threat to Spidey.

totally..the best comic book movie i have ever seen. An absolutely spot-on blend of a great villain, an everyman story, romance, cheese, breath-takingly stunning action and moral guidance! it will be hard to top this, with any amount of flashy effects, shiny metal armour or kevlar bat-suits!

Spider-man 2 was good. Exceeded the first by far. Just wished it was explained why he lost his powers. That didn't make any sense. The fight scenes were awesome. I would have preferred that Doc Ock didn't die. What ever happened to sending super-criminals to prison? Green Goblin's death was accurate, even though it was done mixed with the ultimate universe, using Mj instead of Gwen. Doc Ock shouldn't have died.
