IN DEFENSE OF SPIDER-MAN 3

Mr. Sunday recently inspired me to go back and re-watch Spider-Man3, which I had previously hated. What I came back to will surprise you...

I was over at a friend's house. We were bored, so we decided to watch Spider-Man 3. I had seen the first two, but I had heard bad things about the third, so I hadn't bought it when I bought the first two. And I hated it. It was a mess, with too many villains, an over-filled plot, and an emo Peter Parker. But after seeing Mr. Sunday's "Defending Spider-Man 3" video, I decided to re-watch it and see what I thought,

I really enjoyed this movie. It seems I understood it more when I was just on my own viewing it. So here, I'm going to address people's biggest issues with it.

1. Too Many Villains

I am constantly hearing people complaining about how this movie had too many villains. But, really, Harry is viewed as more of a hero. Sure, he has a couple fight scenes with Peter, but at the end, he saves his life. And Sandman turns out to not be a bad guy in the end, either. So, really, that just leaves Venom.

2. Poor Character Development for Said Villains

I don't think they lacked character development for the villains, I knew who they were (even though I don't really count Harry and Flint as villains), what they wanted, and how they wanted it. The problem for me with the villains was the pacing. It just seemed to drop someone's story completely, follow someone else, and then get back to them. I didn't like that.

3. Emo Parker

This was what really killed the movie for me the first time I watched it. It was a character I loved acting like a fool. Then, I realized: That's exactly what he's supposed to be doing. If you look at the people around him, you can tell they're downright disgusted. What he's doing isn't socially accepted, or "cool". He's making a complete and utter fool of himself, because of the symbiote. It's like he's in some sort of trance, and this is what drives him over the edge, and takes off the black suit.

4. The Dance Scene

I'll admit, even when I liked this movie, this scene is still crap. Just watching Peter like that, even under the trance of the symbiote, makes me want to puke. But after that, (the fight scene where he hits MJ), is actually a pretty emotional scene.

So, in conclusion, this movie is not as good as the first one, and nowhere close to the second, but, despite it's flaws, it is still an enjoyable movie. Thank you guys for reading, and until next time, I'm EpitomeofAwesome.

It was a poor choice to show Peter as emo hipster walking the street to music, symbiote trance or not. Raimi thought it would fly because he got away with a very similar scene in Spiderman 2.

As long as I can find strength to press "skip the scene" on my remote when the emo dance-scene comes, it is a very entertaining movie IMO.

@BenjiWest If they had gone with traditional badboy-look, leather jacket, unshaved, rude to everyone; than the movie would've been whole lot better.

It was good. I don't care what anyone says.

The only issue was Venom, if they hadn't forced Raimi to use Venom this movie would be damn near flawless because if there was no Venom story line it would a) cut down the number of villains, b) eliminate the emo Parker and dancing scene, c) not have to worry about developing Venom and d) eliminate the poorly written love/hate MJ stuff.

Even with the Venom storyline, it's still a pretty good movie. With two good villains and one poor but bad*** one. Great fight scenes, good villains except for Venom.

I still think Spider-man 3 was crap. Mostly it was attributed towards the conflict of Sony and Sam Raimi.
If Raimi saved Venom for Spider-man 4 and if Sony wouldnt have pushed him to use Venom then yes Spider-man 3 would be enjoyable for just two villains.

It's disappointing that we never got Spider-man 4 out of Sam Raimi.
However, TASM is far better than Spider-man 3 but if you enjoyed Spider-man 3 then that's fine but i prefer TASM.

@Virileman
Yes, I am an avid comic-book reader, but I'm saying this is another version of the symbiote, not an exact copy of the comics
