THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 And SINISTER SIX Were Set To Feature This Fan-Favorite Villain

Marc Webb has finally spilled the beans on his plans for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and they sound less than spectacular! He's also revealed some surprising intel on that scrapped Sinister Six spinoff movie.

Thanks to the disappointing critical and commercial response to The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Sony Pictures chose to team up with Marvel Studios and scrapped their plans for two more instalments in that franchise and a spinoff revolving around the Sinister Six. Now, director Marc Webb has shed some light on his plans for the third movie and it would indeed have featured the return of Norman Osborn.

However, as a leaked set photo confirmed back in 2014, the plan was to show that Norman's decapitated head had been put in storage and that he would then be resurrected as the Green Goblin.

Wait, what?!

"Yeah, we were talking about the Sinister Six. They were going to make a Sinister Six movie before we did the third one. But I wanted…Chris Cooper was going to come back and play the Goblin. We were going to freeze his head, and then he was going to be brought back to life. And then there was that character called The Gentleman. We had some notions about how to do it, but I think maybe we were thinking too far ahead when we started building in those things. But it was a fun exercise. I look back very fondly on those days."

Sadly, it sounds like Webb had a complete misunderstanding of the source material and it's hard to imagine any of this actually working. Regardless, Webb went on to reveal that Norman's Green Goblin was going to be the lead in Drew Goddard's Sinister Six. Who knows what that would have meant for Harry but both The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and the spinoff would have put the spotlight on him.

"Well, that was going to be the main villain," Webb confirmed. "He was going to come out and lead the Sinister Six. We had talked about Vulture a little bit too, actually." So, The Vulture could have made his big screen debut here rather than Spider-Man: Homecoming. I know which version I'm glad we got! How do you guys feel about these comments? @MonsterSquad35 - Worse. It makes me sick that these hacks working for a racist are holding these characters hostage.

However, I will never get the image of Paul Giamatti screaming in a eastern european accent about him being the Rhino. I still cringe in my sleep.

I will say tho i did like their design for Electro and the idea that he came from modified genetics of eels similar to Peter with Spiders but the rest was terrible

While I appreciate how the ASM series went the fantastical route with villains like the Lizard, Electro and "Goblin", I wouldn't have cared to see a Sinister Six movie like this.

Tbh, having a Sinister Six spinoff made sense. That's so many villains you gotta give screentime to for development, so them having their own "Suicide Squad" made sense.

But whatever, it's over now.

Despite Tom nailing the role, Andrew is still my Spider-Man, and Toby will always be my Pete.

This scene is just powerful and demonstrates how great Andrew could've been if the Executives had put integrity over profits.

@PrinceAwesome - Yes! very well said. I love that moment.......take it out of context for the jumbled mess that is AS2.....and it's just joyful-awesome. I watch that scene regularly for a little pick me up.

@Jeight8 - The "Come on Peter. Come on Spider-Man." Scene in Homecoming, is one of my favorite moments in comic book movie history. He was scared, but he didn't let that stop him from freeing himself, because he knew he had to stop Vulture. And when he saved Toombs from dying, man, goosebumps!

@PrinceAwesome - andrew garfield as the worst, his version has nothing to do with the character, nothing at all. Maybe it has something if you are a fan of spectacular spiderman cartoon, too childish.

@xinstituto - I think it's funny how people say something isn't "true" to the character when there's so many versions of Spider-Man. I mean he's been around for at least half a century. There's been so many versions. Folks need to realize their favorite version isn't the only version.
