THE SUICIDE SQUAD Expected To Stick To Theatrical/HBO Max Release; THE BATMAN On Course To Wrap Next Month

Buried in that bombshell Supergirl casting report from earlier today were a few small updates on the release plan for James Gunn's The Suicide Squad and the end of filming on Matt Reeves' The Batman.

Buried in their bombshell Supergirl report from earlier this afternoon - where we learned that Sasha Calle (The Young and the RestlessSocially Awkward) had been cast as the Girl of Steel in Andy Muschietti's The Flash - Deadline also shared a few small updates about upcoming DC releases The Suicide Squad and The Batman

First, they've heard that it's looking increasingly likely that James Gunn's The Suicide Squad will stick to its current release model, debuting simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max this August 6.

The news comes just a few months after it was reported that Gunn was not happy with WarnerMedia's shocking announcement to send their entire 2021 slate to HBO Max, the immediate aftermath of which saw them float a seriously lackluster compensation model to him and other profit participants in the film.

With the latest update now saying the release is going to move forward as scheduled, it seems those profit-sharing conflicts may have been resolved and the top-tier talent will be properly compensated, most likely with a deal similar to the one Patty Jenkins, Gal Gadot, and the Wonder Woman 1984 cast received in December.

In addition, Matt Reeves' The Batman, which will star Robert Pattinson as the titular Dark Knight, is still on track to wrap principal photography in mid-March, fifteen months after it initially began shooting in January 2020. It will open in theaters on March 4, 2022.

@Equivocal - It looks greatdont get me wrong, but i cant say it looks better than an entire scene. That scene gave us damn near everything we've wanted in a live action batman fight. AND HE BROKE A DUDES NECK WITH ONE PUNCH haha

@dracula - I really think WB doesn’t think Superman sells at this point, they seems to learn the wrong lesson from just about every movie they put out so it wouldn’t surprise me if they think people just don’t like Superman

@dracula - Right??

I’d love if this Batman movies unofficially kicks off a new universe of DC films. We know Superman/other heroes exist in this world, and it’d be great to see them

@tmp3 - Jeff Nichols would be perfect to reboot superman.

@DaHyro - extactly, don't need to make everything super connected, just let the director carve out their own corner of the universe and let them crossover when they have a good story. Jeff Nichols would be great to reboot superman and his style would mesh well with Reeves's

@Ha1frican - Well hopefully we will get one in a few years, probably after Superman And Lois has been on for a few years

@Ha1frican - So true. And even when they manage to make a decent flick like Shazam, they never seem able to carry to momentum forward.

Hopefully by August theaters will be opened in more places. Here in NY only local family owned stuff is opened, Regal is shut down for the forseabble future and that’s really all be have. I keep forgetting The Batman is still filming it’s been in production forever it feels like
