Buried in their bombshell Supergirl report from earlier this afternoon - where we learned that Sasha Calle (The Young and the Restless; Socially Awkward) had been cast as the Girl of Steel in Andy Muschietti's The Flash - Deadline also shared a few small updates about upcoming DC releases The Suicide Squad and The Batman.
First, they've heard that it's looking increasingly likely that James Gunn's The Suicide Squad will stick to its current release model, debuting simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max this August 6.
The news comes just a few months after it was reported that Gunn was not happy with WarnerMedia's shocking announcement to send their entire 2021 slate to HBO Max, the immediate aftermath of which saw them float a seriously lackluster compensation model to him and other profit participants in the film.
With the latest update now saying the release is going to move forward as scheduled, it seems those profit-sharing conflicts may have been resolved and the top-tier talent will be properly compensated, most likely with a deal similar to the one Patty Jenkins, Gal Gadot, and the Wonder Woman 1984 cast received in December.
In addition, Matt Reeves' The Batman, which will star Robert Pattinson as the titular Dark Knight, is still on track to wrap principal photography in mid-March, fifteen months after it initially began shooting in January 2020. It will open in theaters on March 4, 2022.
