After a first pic of Henry Cavill as Superman was released I was reading other people's opinion on how they felt about it. I couldn't believe all the negative responses. We all know noone will ever be able to duplicate Christopher reeve's Superman. Bryan Singer tried and he fail. When I first saw Brandon Routh I thought; "Whoa this guy looks just like Christopher Reeve". When I first saw Henry Cavil I thought;"Whoa this guy looks just like SUPERMAN!!" See the differnce? Zack Snyder wasn't looking for another Chistopher Reeve. He found Superman! Everyone was raving about not wanting him in the Red underwear and I was skeptical about that, but judging from Zack Snyder's track record he never shy too far from the source. Then finally yesterday we got our First look at Henry Cavill as Superman and I was mesmerized. He didn't look like Brandon Routh or Christopher Reeve. He didn't look like the worlds oldest Boyscout. If I could some up his look into one word, it would be "Mighty". I never saw a pic of Superman and thought; "Whoa this dude's going to kick your ass!" until now. and if you ask me that's the kind of superman we need. Yeah it a little darker or more gritty but that's what brings the realism. The same goes for Lawrence Fishburne. He wasn't looking for someone who's looks the part. He was looking for Perry White and he found him in Lawrence Fishburne, who in my opinion is perfect for the role. I've been on the Christopher Reeve Bandwagon for a long time but this photo just made me jump ship. I have all the confidence in the world in this director, The A list Cast and in this Superman. I can assure you this movie will not dissapoint. and I wouldn't be surprised if this get alot of buzz around oscar season. In 1978, Chrsitopher Reeve made us believe and man can Fly. In 2013, Henry Cavill will make us believe a man can pound you into the F'n ground!

Henry Cavill...SUCKS!!!! He looks more like bizarro than Superman. He's the reason why I'm back reading Marvel and its new movies. Marvel will always be better than DC. And this is coming from a die-hard Superman fan. Superman is dead to me. God I hate this Henry Cavill guy.
This movie is not going to make it.

Though I agree that Sup-man shouldn't be a Christopher Reeves clone, I also don't think he should look like a mobster going to a Halloween party. Cavill looks solid and mean in the 'Immortals' trailer, and I'd prefer they use that look but with a Sup-man suit. But this first image doesn't do it. He doesn't look bad-a*ss at all...he looks more like a criminal using sup-man's suit to rob a bank.

Yes I was thinking the same thing lol but as this person has stated, they are going back to Marvel. He isn't doing Marvel fans any favours although that could be mainly due to age, as we know Marvel is aimed at the kiddies. I can't believe this ones mother allows him on the family computer though.

Bless the little blighter!

I'm really happy Cavill and his suit are nothing like Reeve and his. Reeve's Superman is (literally) dead and buried. Strip back the childhood memories and nostalgia and you're left with a bloke over-acting whilst hanging from very visible strings, talking to a camp, over the top Lex luthor. Sadly, Singer and Routh had the perfect opportunity to move the series on, but chose to give into this childhood nostalgia. Time for a new version people...

Great article!! I loved this look from the moment I saw the pic. Not sure why people complain so much. I dont want a typical bubblegum superman world. I want it to be more relevant to modern society

and he does indeed look badass too greengarde74

and we dont have a reeve clone either. He looks very masculine and now we have a superman instead of a superboy!!

I really hate the look of Henry Cavill as Superman. He has the physique, but the receding hairline and the overly textured suite just dont look like Superman. Im not wedded to the Christopher Reeve Superman look, was hoping to see someone that looks more like the comic book Superman. I hate the new costume, it looks like he ripped off Spidey's new awful reboot costume. The suit looks like rubber. Should have gone for Routh or Welling, just can't see Cavil as Superman or Kent.

I had already prepared myself to be let down after the announcement that Snyder was picked as director and this one shot really ruins all remaining hope I had for the film. The only thing this movie has going for it is Christopher Nolan's involvement. Zack Snyder has a history of over using bad CG, this film is going to look like Suckerpunch, and that's just not Superman. WB is under a lot of pressure to get this movie out the door so they don't lose the rights to Superman and after WB pulled the trigger on Snyder, they got nervous and brought Nolan in to "oversee" the script and quiz Snyder on his vision for the film. The first shout as Routh as Superman kinda set the tone for what to expect for Superman Returns, this pic is no different. I have faith that Nolan and his brother will deliver a good script, but Snyder will make this look like Suckerpunch or Watchmen and that will be the end of Superman.

The whole point of this article is The reason why people prefer Batman over Superman mostly because Superman was always made to be Cheesy and the for good reason and that outfit didn't do him any justice. We have another two years before this film will be releaseed. Trust me you're going to see the curl. The suit is going to go through a few more Modifications. This pic is just for feedback. and so far I'm liking what I see!

They are not going to change the suit.

And I have NO interest in seeing Welling ruin Superman any more than he already has. He took the money, gave you a CGI puppet and hit the road.

Good riddance.

Cavill looks terrific and ready to give someone or something a beatdown (FINALLY!). I really wonder if some of you people post just to be silly or don't look close enough. I know we all have differences of opinions, ut "receding hairline?!" Are you kidding me?!
Finally, IMHO, Smallville was awesome....great to see Lex back and the ending made me extremely happy...

Two Words "Wonder Woman". Fans opinion count. Fans hated the blue boots. Fans hated the pants. She in red boots and Blue underwear by the end of the first pilot. There will be modifications before it hits theaters. IN 2 YEARS!!

Dear WB, are you listening? It's me Margaret.

I really like Cavill as Superman but thought I'd make a few suggestions.

1. Do something with his hair. I like how he looks manly in his physique, but he looks slightly older than his real age. I am okay with or without a spit curl. Maybe it would have helped disguise the receding hairline?

2. Darken the eyebrows. Seriously. Now. My 2 year niece ran away from the computer screen after being startled.

3. The suit. I like the suit's colors from that lighting, just hope Snyder doesn't film it exactly like Sucker Punch. Thank god, no kindergarten primary colors or spandex and lycra! We don't need an American Apparel Superman.

I like the red cape, looks a little on the long and heavy side which makes me question how fast he can fly in that thing or if he's hiding dust bunnies under there, but whatever.

I like how the suit is sort of slick and skintight so you can tell his muscles mean business, but the texture reminds me of a cross between Mystique and Spiderman. I don't know. I immediately think of a fish and alien at the same time, which he's kind of alien, I guess. But it also makes me want to plug my nose because he probably wreaks like a fish too.

Thank you for not (though I can't tell) adding the granny red underwear. I didn't want to Photoshop a Lucha Libre mask over Cavill's face. Plus, VPL (visible panty line) is not cool.

I just like the fact that in the picture Superman looks like a "violent, caged animal...a [frick]ING KILLER" hahaha kidding, gotta love Kevin Smith and his jokes.

Nah I just like that Superman looks more like he's ready to fight. I mean, he doesn't look like the same little boy Superman we've had in all the movies, this time he looks like a REAL MAN which has been long-overdue.

Cavill will be great.

@LP4 - Haha. Routh is totally Super-emo-manBoy, or whatever.

To me, he will forever be the douchey Vegan bass player, Todd on Scott Pilgrim vs. World.

His Superman role? Just a blip in his career. Thanks Bryan Singer.

yohj529 - 8/5/2011, 5:32 PM
@TheKevin - In all seriousness now, I agree. The suit did not do him justice. In recent years, Hollywood tried their best, but still haven't figured out how to revive the superhero post-Christopher Reeve.

I think it has to do with the cheesy or sort of sugarcoated idea of Superman you are describing. It just doesn't work in this post 9/11, recession, era of Facebook and Twitter world.

I agree, I bet the modifications are already underway, since the photo was released. But man, did that photo travel fast in the last 48 hours all over the Internet. Got to hand it to them, I think the studio knows what they are doing in the aspect- by taking it to the fans for feedback.

My only request? Can they refund the fans for the crappy movies we watch, too. (Cough, Green Lantern. Come on Warner Brothers.)

@BaneKill- Dude I don't feel like debating this shit with you. If you don't like my remarks, stop responding to them jesus man. I mean, whenever you bash welling or cavill you don't see me coming to their rescue. Time to cut it out and stop acting like the CBM police around here.

In any case Superman seemed rather depressed throughout the entire SR film. He went to Lois' home hid behind some bushes and used his x-ray vision to spy on her and listened to her private conversations with her husband...on the rooftop at the very last scene, he knew he couldn't have her so he arched his head down in depression and flew away. In the very end of the film, he SNUCK into lois' house...to see the kid. um...why not ask for permission before going into someone else's home??? I know if i had a kid with my EX and i snuck into her house in the middle of the night to see the kid, i know she'd still call the cops on me for breaking and entering.

In any case BaneKill I'm done debating with you and your obsession with Routh. I should be free to comment as i like without you constantly trying to contradict me on here.

in other words- [frick] OFF. =D

LP4 - 8/6/2011, 12:58 AM
also @BaneKill- Jim Littler is Galactus on this site. He knows you've been up to no good on this site and he TOLD ME that if you ever tried to falsely report me or you try to [frick] WITH ME AGAIN, he will delete your account.

You love Routh. Fine. Let me comment as I like about him without you constantly combating me on here. It's tiring and everyone's sick of it.

and for the record- Routh is still a shit actor. I posted a review from a guy who works for the Mercury News. The entire review, he just slammed Routh for his bland/wooden acting. Routh can't act and was only chosen to be Superman by Singer because Singer felt Routh had an "uncanny resemblance to Chris Reeve" any and all sources have confirmed that as his reasoning for choosing Routh. He even said that in an interview back in 06'. Had nothing to do with his talent or lack-there-of. It was solely due to his look of Reeve which personally I didn't think he ever really looked THAT much like Reeve to begin with.

Ok end of rant. Leave me the [frick] alone dude.

Oh and one more thing "BaneKill"

Superman DID stalk Lois. Last time you told me he didn't because he only followed her once. WRONG. Clearly you didn't watch the movie.

He watched her going up the elevator to the roof of the Daily Planet, so...he FOLLOWED her up there. That's the FIRST time he stalked her.

Then he went to her house hid behind some bushes and listened to her conversations while spying on her. That's stalking scene#2

Lastly...he snuck inside her house to see the kid. That's breaking and entering and stalking scene#3

I dont' care if you try to deny the 3rd one i posted because he went inside her house to see the KID...but obviously sneaking inside her house, he was BOUND to run into her at some point- DUH. So that still constitutes as STALKING. And within the movie- that was THREE times in 1 film. He stalked her. Face it BaneKill. Your favorite Superman was a stalker. ^_^

Now back to the coolness of Cavill.

Aaaaah yeaaaah, no more Routh...
