KsiteTV.com spoke with Greg Beeman, who directed the second part of the series finale of "Smallville", to get his impressions of how it all turned out.

I was happy with it. I know some people have issues with the digital Clark, and Tom not wearing the suit, but to tell you the truth, in a weird way, I [also] was coming at it from the outside. I was not part of the show for all those years. I had always been a fan. I watched through Season 7, but I sort of drifted away after that. Not for any reason; I still loved the show, I just got busy with other stuff. So I was coming in clean. I didn't know that much about the Darkseid story, and I didn't really know that much about the Green Arrow story. I wanted to service that story as best I could, but the way that Clark's story wrapped up was always what I expected. It was never important to me to see Tom Welling wear the Superman suit. And it was never something that I thought mattered.

I for one enjoyed the finale episode, i wasn't happy we didn't see Welling in the suit, but the show was never about that to being with.

So the director of the season finale, knew nothing about the story from se7 until that point? Gee I wonder went wrong?

Saying the show wasn't about Superman is a fair point, but missing the point at the same time.

This was the FINALE! The final moments of a journey that sees Clark become Superman and for those final moments, it IS important to see him become Superman.

To have a CGI Superman is a stupid way to go, because if that's the case, as it was, you may as well have had a CGI Clark throughout the entire series.

One shot of Clark in full Superman costume was all that was needed.

WoW....I directed the series finale but I knew nothing about the show. I'm not mad at the guy. Blame the producers.

"it was never something that I thought mattered"

LOL Ya we all know the suit of Superman means nothing right? He can walk around naked and fight and he'd be the exact same. Err wait no, its actually iconic and incredibly important for the character and I KNOW the people in charge of the show knew that to, otherwise they wouldn't have teased it, 40 times in season 10 and in the season finale of season 9.

Good God people, let this travesty die already. Smallville was golden for 4 seasons, then they just dragged out this long, bloated, "No flights"... well it could happen if you wait long enough, "no tights"....Oooohhhh we promise that if you stick with us long enough, you will all get what you've been waiting for.....schtick until the last minute so we can see Tommy Boy run at the camera, rip open his shirt to reveal the same T-shirt I have in my dresser and piss all over every Superman fan in the world. ]

For the record, I called the final scene 9 months before it was ever aired.

@Knightstalker- "piss all over every Superman fan in the world"

That's pretty much what the last 6 years of Smallville have done to us... -_-

I guarantee that in a couple of years maybe on the Complete Series or Man of Steel Blu Ray it will come out that it was a business decision by Warner Bros because they didn't want people to associate Zack Snyder's Superman with the Smallville show or feel like they don't need to go to the movie because they have already seen a modern Superman. They were probably worried about what happened with The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Terminator Salvation even though that was mostly McG's fault.

Some people may think It sucked,I liked it,yes I was disappointed he didnt actually wear the suit, but tbh you all got something on tv that involved comic books, now we have nothing, not even wonder woman now that I was hoping to replace smallville as my weekly watching thing, but nothing, and now smallville has gone just feels empty

I liked much of the 1st half but the 2nd half seemed rushed. I still enjoyed it. I understand the limitations of a 22 episode small network's budget restrictions, so I was satisfied by what they were able to offer. It's unrealistic to expect Welling in a proper fitting suit without the costs. The CGI suit could have looked better, too, with a larger budget. Keeping it in perspective.

@SKOne...You may be right about Warner's business decision but my question is this: How can anyone in their right mind NOT associate Superman with Smallville? That's like not wanting anyone to associate Batman with Gotham City, or Jesus with Bethlehem.

@Knightstalker

I think Warner Bros may just not want people to avoid seeing Man of Steel because of how soon after Smallville a Superman movie is coming out. I know for me personally, I am less excited to see Man of Steel because I have already seen the whole Superman vs Zod storyline pretty recently.

The only thing more disappointing than Green Lantern was the series finale of Smallville.

@SKOne- Regardless, it was a bitchslap to the fans who've watched the show for 10 years.

@ar8898= Yep, WB isn't on the ball lately.

Ugh. I am not even going to entertain this crap with a well thought out comment. I will say this: this guy's lack of effort and understanding for what this should have been translated to the screen. Suck.

There were a few things that I actually DID like about the series finale, but one in particular that comes to mind (since everyone is talking about the final scene here) is the fact that they used the Richard Donner music. I thought that was a good addition to the series finale, even it still doesn't make up for the fact that they really just did not show Clark Kent wearing the suit. I think that actually did kinda suck. P :) / :(

I don't even know where to start when it comes to Smallville. The show started out great. by season three and four, it started to lose its flavor. Season five, things started to pick up again. Smallville has had its ups and downs. Season nine was absolutely amazing. Couldn't have been better. I expected much more from ten. I have to admit that i was hoping for a battle between Kent and Darkseid, instead of him flying through a zombie Lionel. Really? And what was the point of the wedding if Lois and Clark didn't even get married? No glasses. Seriously? Wasted too much time with the mushy crap, which took away from the stuff we really wanted to see. I know that i didn't wait ten years to see a computer generated Clark, smiling at Lois through the window of a plane. If they'd zoomed in just once on him saving the plane, maybe I would have let it slide. Maybe. I honestly have to say that Lex Luthor's return was awesome. I enjoyed his confrontation with Clark in the mansion. Don't like that he is a clone. I could go on and on, but in general, i hated the finale. This series finale should have been better. I'm just glad it's over and quite honestly I'm relieved. The way it ended... was so cliche. Shame. Glad it's over.

The show finale was pure embaracing crap!

So in the finale, the finale where Clark became Superman, it wasn't important to the director to get a shot of Tom in the suit. I think 99% of directors would disagree. If I was this guy I'd consider a career change.
