Michael Rosenbaum Apparently Refuses To Be A Part Of The Smallville Finale!

According to a recent report, the actor has no interest in returning as Lex Luthor and has repeatedly turned offers down. With only three episodes left to shoot, it's unlikely he'll return...

Despite numerous hints being dropped throughout the final season of Smallville and constant "wait and see" teases from the shows cast and producers, a report from Entertainment Weekly makes it seem extremely unlikely that we'll see Michael Rosenbaum return as Lex Luthor as many had hoped.

"He has put the show behind him and moved on," says a knowledgeable source. "He’s pursuing his other creative outlet [writing]. By all indications, he is not going to be involved."

The door still remains open for Rosenbaum to come on board, but it’s closing fast. Smallville wraps series production late next month, with only three episodes — including the two-hour finale — left to shoot.

After the fairly lame way the character was written out of the show at the end of season 7, it's a shame we'll never get to see a decent face off between him and Clark, especially as their friendship was a huge part of the show. Unless they're keeping this as some sort of huge surprise, I think it's unlikely we'll see the actor return as the iconic Superman villain!

Sigh...this blows. I really just don't understand why he won't come back. I understand that he has moved on to other things but that still doesn't mean he can't come back for just a few scenes as a gift to his loyal fans who have been the ones who made sure he had a paycheck for 7 years...

this is no news.... rosenbaum made no mystery he doesn't want to shave for the show anymore for a couple of years now .
as for the "why doesn't he want to come back for the finale" you may ask yourself "why tom welling doesn't want to wear the costume/wasn't eager to star in the snyder reboot" ?
the answer is simple . It's a show for geek . Most actors aren't . Superhero show and movie are completely different career wise . The only reason why "traditionnal"actors like anthony hopkins or rising actors like henry cavill star accept to star in those movies is because CMB are now acknowledged as a legitimate career move . Independant movie for the oscars-artistic veneer / blockbuster movie for the money-popular appeal is a formula to which most career driven actors try to stick to . Superhero movie is the most popular blockbuster genre right now so actors just follow public taste . CMB are ok for their career. They all hope a dark knight or a iron man boost .
Smallville can't provide that . It's a geek show and ending show . As they never were interested in the material in the first place as soon as it's not good for their career they give the finger to the fan . See how michael duncan clark didn't want to put on back the weight for a potential daredevil sequel or how ben affleck a pretending daredevil fan crying in the press about how he feels silly in the costume
Hitchock got it right : actors must be treated like cattle . You want an actor to do something ? you make him sign a contract telling him to do so , in this case appear in the finale . Otherwise in 95 percent of the case he's just interested about money and career .

You need to all stop crying like children and insulting him. It's his choice not to do Smallville. How does that make him a douch? Maybe he's simply not interested? Maybe he wants to go another direction with his life? He has ZERO obligation to ANY of you whiny ass fanboys.

HUGE douche, not willing to come back for the end of the series that MADE him. He wouldn't even be known if it wasn't for this show and yet he turns his back on it. If this is a huge surprise then kudos, if it's not, then I hope his "writing" falls on its ass and fails

You know not that i really care, cos the show is weak. Um but what else those this tool bag really got going for him? I don't follow his career, so maybe he's a big stage actor or he does really good tv ad work over seas and is banking cash, but the last thing i can remember seeing him in was some dumb ass movie where he was dressed like a tranny... hope he's not worried about be type-cast cos no one else wants him anyway.... ugh thanks for listening lol, hate the show can't wait for it to be done... oh he's gonna put on the stupid suit and fly away in the final 2 mins of the show, that's what ten years of gilmore girls i mean one tree hill oh i mean, crap what do i mean there all the same show..

@ sylon- You've it the nail on the head their mate. Totally agree with you.

And to everyone who constantly cries about the (very likely) possibility that Clark will only get the suit at the end of the last episode, remember this; way back in 2000/2001, it was announced that Smallville is a show about Clark Kent growing up and becoming a hero, and NOT a series about Superman. You'd do well to remember that before moaning he isn't getting the suit untill the very end. Like it or not that's the way it is. The reason I don't constantly spit my dummy out is because I remember what the whole point of the series was supposed to be, and it didn't involve a man in a red cape flying about.
The only thing I'd remotely agree with is that he should learn to fly before the series wraps up.

The Show Blows Anyway ....Who can Blame him ?
You've all been led on for years , When will he wear the Suit ?
This Show prostituted the IDEA of of the Superman Universe.
What you were watching was a Soap Opera , Nothing else.

Well, while I don't want to insult him, I think it would be kind of a dick move to not come back. This show did kind of a lot for him. The Smallville fanbase loves him and his portrayal of the character. I can understand wanting to move on. However, I don't get how coming back to a series that is ending for 3 episodes at the most would hold him back in anyway. It would be a great service to his fans and his friends on the show, but what? He's to busy? He doesn't want to be associated with it anymore? Too late for that. If you play a character for 7 years, you're going to be remembered for it anyway, so it's not like this would negatively affect him. He could even wear a bald cap! In my opinion, to refuse to do something that would
A. not hurt you
B. not reqire much
C. mean a lot to so many people

is just plain douchey.

@indoraptor12

The main reason I remember when everything went down back in season 7 was he was tired of Shaving his head and simply wanted to do something different, which is fine for 7 years, but to give thanks to guys who put food on your table for almost a decade it would have been nice if the guy came back for at least one episode. Hell he was on the show for 7 years there must be some part of him who actually liked working on it.

This all reminds me of in Back to the future, the guy who played George McFly refused to come back for 2&3 because he had "big things" coming his way and going back to BTTF was below him. Where did his career go? Nowhere. How did they fix the problem?

They recast him, and no one noticed. Hell even the actress who's Marty's GF changes between 1&2. No one noticed.

Back to Michael....god forbid like a bald cap or something.

I heard rosenbaum was sexually harassing male cast and crew members and that they actually don't want him back. They just act like they do to cover it up. What a tool!!

Smallville is my favorite show of all time.I'll even admit that there has been a lot of sh*tty episodes, especially last weeks. And it has a lot of flaws, just like every show in the history of television. But for Rosenbaum not to come back with only three episodes left to shoot,is just a dick move if you ask me.I never even knew who he was until I started watching this show.I can't say anymore becaues I'm gonna get really pi$$ed off.Screw you Rosen-bum.They need to either get that creepy Lex clone guy from this season's first episode...or get Kevin Spacey.

@ JaySchluffy - I'm sure he had food on his table before Smallville. That is weak dude.
He doesn't want to do any more Smallville and he doesn't have to. That's it. Deal with it.
A lot of you guys are talking like he owes you his life. Not having a go, just saying it how it is.

@ Rodimus9 - Funny how that was never mentioned untill just now.
