Smallville: Peterson & Souders Talk Rest of Series

In a new interview with TVline, Smallville executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders preview what fans will see through the rest of the final season.

Some highlights:

On how Clark has changed, Souders says, "The insecurity is gone, which is good. But the way that some of the world has turned -– and certainly the fact that some people, his compadres so to speak, have turned against him -– has taken its toll on him.”

Besides the physical manifestation of Darkseid, there will be other villains from the past. "Potentially, a lot of characters could come back," said Peterson.

The return of Lionel Luthor:

“Lionel Luthor (John Glover) is back, and he is bad-ass,” Peterson promises. While this is no outright resurrection — this Lionel crossed over from the alt-Earth visited in the episode “Luthor” –- there has to be some paperwork involved in him rejoining society, right? “He dots his i’s and crosses his t’s, so nobody questions things that much,” says Souders, “because he is that good.”

Tess' discovery that she's a Luthor:

“Tess is in a really interesting pickle,” Peterson attests. “She’s got the Luthor dynasty pulling her in one direction, and Clark and his friends in another.”

Lois' influence on Clark needing a separate identity:

“She’s kind of all over him as far as how he’s dressing, what his hair looks like… but for a very, very good reason,” says Souders. “Stay tuned — but if you’re a hardcore Superman fan, you’ll enjoy the ride. It’s a lot of fun.”

Final note from Souders: “There’s a lot of arcs within [the second half], but obviously the main arc is Clark eventually turning into Superman.”

I hear season 10's pretty bad so far (Im in the UK and it hasnt even premiered over here yet)... I wish they'd stop with the filler episodes, get rid of the Michael Jackson costume (the Matrix suit looked better than that!) and Michael Rosenbaum would get off his high horse and go back to the series (they could CGI his hair out if they were desperate!)
Still, can't wait to see it for myself!

I wish they left the Tess character as Luthor's evil CEO. Instead they alienated her from Lex, making Lex look like a pervert in the process, and then they watered her down so Tess wasn't the villain. And then Tess became obsessed with Clark, a Clark groupie. Even Chloe was slapping Tess around last season. Why do they even need her anymore?

Joker13, I agree that the show ORIGINALLY was not about Superman, but it has been on the air (thanks to loyal fans) far longer than they expected it to be. Having said that, there is a natural progression and evolution of things. Clark has been Metropolis and working for the Daily Planet for a few years now and they've simply stalled his transformation into the Superman we all know and love all for the sake of teasing us with that damnable "no flights, no tights" rule.

You know, I'd really love this site if it wasn't for all the haters on here. "Hey everyone! I hate this show! Shit show! Look, I hate it! Did you hear me? look, Look, LOOK! I hate it."

There are plenty of things I don't like or don't intrest me, but I don't waste time trying to tell people relentlessly.

Anyway, I can't wait for Smallville to come back. First half of the season had some really killer moments, hopefully the second half starts building up main arc. Please Lord, Let MR come back. Smallville needs it's Lex!

"The insecurity is gone". Great; now if he could do something about his persistently annoying lack of confidence and authority, he actually might get somewhere. At this point, all I care about is Flight, and The Suit -- in that order. Fug everything else.
