In a recent interview with TV Guide, Smallville executive producer Brian Peterson said:

"I would say we will see members of the future Justice League who we haven’t seen in a while. They will appear in the Justice Society episode and in the back section of the season. I can’t confirm who you will see, a lot of it is cast dependent. But we do have plans to have a few more members of the future JLA back on the show."

Peterson also spoke about the direction that the potential 10th season of 'Smallville' would take.

"I think our plan right now is a reflection over the 9 years and taking him out of the darkness that we’ve had, with him in the black suit and where he went after Jimmy’s death, and taking him to a place of balancing his Kryptonian side and his human side,"

"It would be him learning how to be Clark Kent and the entity that will be known as Superman.

The only thing Superman he should wear are Superman pajamas, and even THAT'S a stretch!

The second part of this season is going to be sick. He will make a good Superman on the show but i think id have to see him with some better lines before i would wanna see him as Supes in a movie.

I think this season is great and should have happened 4 years ago. Talk about WHOLE SEASONS of b.s. Seriously the characters don't need 10 seasons of development. I'm starting to think Clark is REALLY slow in the head.

brianj22 - That listing is accurate for the JLA cartoon, but I STRONGLY recommend that you check out the old JL of A issues from 1960 - 1984, even if they're reprints! It will give you a stronger sense of the TRUE flavor of the Justice League; the Identity Crisis maxi-series did a good job of capturing it!

BTW, I'm not sure that Supergirl will be coming back, as the actress that plays her is now on ABC's "V", which is doing well in the ratings. Also, I don't think Zatanna or Martian Manhunter have officially joined the group yet, and I believe Warner Bros. is STILL restricting the show's producers from using Batman and WW! And Black Canary badly needs to be recast!!

MisterUnderhill: I have, and you know who else played a gay character? Heath Ledger.

Dude, the role was a 5 minute (not even) one in a comedy about two people making a porno, and you're judging him on that?

Routh got a bad script, with a less than competent Superman director. He got a raw deal, and was told to do a Reeves impression by Singer.

And also, we get it already. Every post related to Superman has your new slogan all over it. WE GET THE POINT!
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 11/25/2009, 3:22 PM
MisterUnderhill: Thats a great movie but I have to agree - Routh's acting was as wooden as when he played Superman!

I dont think I want to see Welling as a BIG screen Superman but I'd love to see him don the costume in a follow up TV show to Smallville (Metropolis maybe?)

I think they need to cut all ties with the abomination that was Superman Returns and cast a whole new actor - Im yet to see Routh in any movie that Im actually impresed by his performance in!

Well, the only thing (I assume) you've seen Routh in Josh is Returns, where he had a bad script and a bad director to work with, and Zack and Miri, where he had a cameo.

Personally, Routh was great in Returns. The script/Singer called for a Reeves impression, and Routh did what they asked. He was great as both Clark and Superman, even though he didn't have enough solid scenes to work with, and he was written/directed to be a Superman that we didn't want.

And don't give me the "he would have shone through the bad script if he was a good actor!" thing. So, by that logic, Christian Bale is a bad actor for Equilibrium, Malcolm McDowell is a bad actor for Tank Girl, and yes, CHRISTOPHER REEVES is a bad actor for Superman 4.

We didn't want another Reeves performance, but we got one because of Singer and the script. If he was given a solid script and a good director (JJ Abrams) then he would do even better than in Returns.

Welling is the definition of wooden acting, and has not only managed to make Clark unlikeable as f*ck, but annoying as f*ck to match that. Also, he's not even enthusiastic about the role either, he's never talking about how great the role is, hell, it only took him about 8 years to take the trip to Comic-Con for the fans of his show. Routh, whenever asked about returning (pun intended) as Supes, always gives an enthusiastic response and says he would love to come back.

Until anyone can give me a better choice than Routh, I stand by him as my choice for Superman. So yeah.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 11/25/2009, 4:09 PM
TYLER: I dont think that Welling would be a better choice than Routh and you're completely right with pretty much every point you make! Despite that I still think a new actor is needed if the franchise is going to have a fresh start! Im not sure WHO exactly at the moment but once I've finished working on my Punisher Fan Cast I'll start my Superman one, lol!

I've thought for 7-8 years that Bruce Wayne (if not Batman) should guest on the show... I think a rivalry leading to friendship between Bruce and Clark would make a great episode. But what do I know? My collection of comics only dates back to the 1940's so I am really not familiar with any of this.

DON'T BE TALKING ABOUT MY WELLING! Tom Welling as Clark Kent in SMALLVILLE is great. just because you don't like the show does not mean that he is a bad actor in it.
you just think that cause you don't like him/smallville
and thats OK. I love smallville and still I don't want to see tom welling on the big screen as superman. cause he would be not right for the role. He doesn't like to talk about the role, because he is MODEST and not BIG-HEADED. Welling doesn't need to be in the spot light, or he doesn't need to BEG to have the role back. Tom is just Tom, let him be.

i think green lantern will appear after seeing the ring in the trailer. if wonder woman shows up it will just 'another person who can fly, just because clark can't'. batman won't. i don't think they have ever even mentioned gotham city in nine seasons.

i can't remember what happened to zatanna in the show, i thought she disappeared somehow. smallville is pretty terrible when it comes to magic heroes and villains though, they make them REALLY campy!

martian manhunter may appear, but they made him lose his powers flying clark to the sun to heal him in a previous season, didn't they?

peterparker: Did I ever say I didn't like the show? No, I didn't even talk about the show itself. Don't pass off my criticism of Welling as "you just don't like the show."

The show is okay, it has been abysmal at times, but this year it's really good.
Routh isn't begging to have the role back, he's stating that he still loves the character, and would be glad to come back. By your logic, Kevin Spacey is begging to come back, since he's said he would gladly and happily return.

So not talking about the role you've been connected to for almost a decade or showing enthusiasm about it is being totally modest? That doesn't make sense.

samd577, There was an episode that involved Oliver, Lex and a few other richies. One unidentified rich boy got into a limo and said he had to get back to Gotham... (At this point I was on the edge of my seat saying is that Bruce Wayne? Is that Bruce Wayne???)Then the car blew up and I decided that it in fact was not Bruce wayne.

MisterUnderhill: So, if you think Welling is as wooden as you say Routh is, why is it that you have that manip of Welling as Superman as your avatar?

Regarding the "welcome to your world thing", I'm not the one saying the same exact thing every post about Routh/Superman. You are. I am not defending teabag or Lee, and you make a valid point by mentioning them, even though I never mentioned them or was defending them. It gets pretty redundant to see the same line repeated over and over again, in the same article no less.

I already explained to you about Routh's performance, how he was TOLD to act like Reeves, and how you're judging him on a cameo in a comedy about pornos.

You seemed to have totally ignored that, so I'll say it again:

The script/Singer called for a Reeves impression, and Routh did what they asked. He was great as both Clark and Superman, even though he didn't have enough solid scenes to work with, and he was written/directed to be a Superman that we didn't want.

And don't give me the "he would have shone through the bad script if he was a good actor!" thing. So, by that logic, Christian Bale is a bad actor for Equilibrium, Malcolm McDowell is a bad actor for Tank Girl, and yes, CHRISTOPHER REEVES is a bad actor for Superman 4.

Its a great pity that Routh was forced into imitating Reeves - he never got a chance to show us what he could actually do with the character! My main reason for not wanting Routh back would be the fact I want to distance any future Superman movies as far away as possible from Returns!

I definitely think that a director affect an actors performance which could be why I was so unimpressed by Rouths perfromance! For example, Daniel Craig is excellent in Casino Royale but dreadful in The Invasion - a bad director/bad script vs. a good director/good script is bound to make a difference!

I guess thats why I was so desperate to be impressed by Routh in Zack and Miri - unfortunately I wasnt!

As for Tom Welling I've never actually disliked him as an actor. He seems to vary - I sometimes watch an episode of Smallville and see that same old angst ridden expression on his face and want to punch him in the jaw...the next minute, Im sitting back and thinking, "Wow, that guy is an awesome Superman" - could he pull off the character on the big screen? I dont think so. The small screen? Definitely.

I don't understand how Welling is "wooden"?, Welling portrayed/portrayes Clark the way it was ment to be, ORIGINAL. The way he see's clark. Welling gave clark A new freah take on a very old character, routh brought nothing original to the character. What you are saying is just a cop out "The script/Singer called for a Reeves impression", SO why use Routh again in a new superman movie? we are going to get the same lame performance he gave in superman returns. now if there is a new director with maybe a ORIGANAL story (for once) there may be slight chance of Routh doing a good job.
we might get something different from him (routh)and
not a copy of Reeves.

*yes I cast routh in my Identity Crisis fan-cast but that is because I didn't want welling as superman neither of them are right for a new superman movie*

peterparker: He is wooden because he sucks at portraying emotion, has the same blank stare on his face every scene, same monotone, boring voice, uninteresting, need I go on? His take is fresh all right. No Clark before has ever been so unlikeable or annoying.

A cop out? It's a cop out to put blame where it obviously belongs? With a poor script and poor direction, almost any actor would be hard-pressed to generate a good performance.

Why use Routh again? Because the script would be DIFFERENT and the director would be DIFFERENT. That was the problem with Returns. The script/Singer made Routh impersonate Reeves, which we as fans did not want, therefore, obviously we would think that he was lame.

MisterUnderhill: Excuses? A bad script and a bad director are excuses? See my explanation to "cop-outs" above.

You do know Welling's had 8 1/2 seasons worth of writing to show that he isn't as good an actor as cardboard. The writing has been pretty good lately, yet Welling continues to give us weekly bad performances. Routh's had one lousy script to work with, and he still managed to do a great job.
peterparker420
peterparker420 - 11/25/2009, 6:25 PM
MisterUnderhill-Thanks! It seems like everyone has the same excuse, Routh was bad because of the script/directer, know one want to addmit it was just a POOR CASTING CHOICE, from the word go he was wrong for the character. And Singer was just a moron telling Routh to "do you're best REEVES impression"
I can see Welling being SUPERMAN on the small screen
or as superman in a JSA/JLA spin-off. But I think we need a WAY BETTER ACTOR to portray supes in a new movie
IF THERE IS EVER A NEW MOVIE!! LOL
peterparker420
peterparker420 - 11/25/2009, 6:36 PM
InTylerWeTrust- If he sucks so bad why do you keep watching? I'll tell you..because he IS a good actor/director, and he gives a great performance every week.
"Routh's had one lousy script to work with, and he still managed to do a great job."
That is what you call a good job! wow I would hate to see him do a bad job..wait I think he did it was in a movie called SUPERMAN RETURNS.

yes Welling had 8 1/2 great seasons! and I wonder why he is still there?, maybe because he is a good actor/director who like to breath new life in a character, that has been played out over and over on the big screen.
