Smallville: Should Teri Hatcher's Appearance Serve as a Message to Michael Rosenbaum?

Lois & Clark's Teri Hatcher made a cameo appearance as Lois' mother on Smallville this past Friday. DVR Playground has raised the issue of whether or not this should serve as a message to Michael Rosenbaum regarding reprising Lex Luthor.

By EdGross - Nov 14, 2010 04:11 AM EST
Source: DVR Playground

The piece applauded Hatcher making the appearance, believing it an important example that other stars should follow.

"Because far too often throughout our TV watching career (Yes, we just called it career. Yes we have issues) we’ve watched countless actors not even bother," says the author. "From the days of DALLAS that saw Victoria Principal decline to return, to Jason Priestley and Shannen Doherty’s conspicuous absence from the original BEVERLY HILLS 90210 series finale (Yup, still bitter), television stars have a nasty habit of forgetting the roles that made them household names, and more importantly, the fans that got them there. Evidently, Hatcher has not. Which in this era of 'Me! Me! Me!' actors and actresses (cough*Katherine*cough*Heigl*cough) is well, nothing but super! Michael Rosenbaum, take note."

Do you agree or disagree with this point of view? Sound off below.

Deadpool72, Teri Hatcher makes plenty of dough over at Desperate Housewives. Do you really think she needed a check for a cameo appearance? I appreciate your criticisms of all things Smallville, but c'mon.

And, teabag, I agree with you. If Rosenbaum doesn't want to do it, so be it.

lot of chick shows referenced there... just sayin.

But it will be a disappointment if Rosenbaum doesn't appear. Especially since he use to be as much of the star as Tom Welling. Of course there may be more underlying in the background with his relationship to the show. I just hope there's a really good look alike.

why can't you guys just take that michael rosenbaum might not want to comeback,he made a descion to leave the show for whatever reason.

its his choice,if he doesn't want to do it,he doesn't have too.

well said @deadpool72
as a smallville fan I should really disagree with everything you say but sadly a lot of the time you make very valid points (sometimes you do just come for the kick of pissing us off thought right?). If Rosenbaum is done, hes done, simple as that.

true, but for the actual Smallville fans you know it would be a great thing for him to return to the show. HE HAS BARELY DONE ANYTHING! yes he has moved on, so has Kruek, Mack, and Jones. BUT they have all come back (except for Allison Mack, but she will be back later in the season.)

but why not want to come back to the show he helped make a success?

I agree that no one should bully him to come back and if he doesn't want to he doesn't have to. By the same token there's nothing wrong with people saying he should and believing that he's being ungrateful by not doing it. There's a difference between bullying him and expecting some sort of common courtesy and gratitude for those who helped his career.

Tea@ true maybe he blames them for being type cast and not being able to find another job. Who knows, but even shatner got over that issue and embraced his past and fans. If his career is truly dead then a 5 minute cameo on the final episode can't make it any worse :)

Maybe Rosenbaum is unhappy because the show has strayed so far from DC canon, or maybe the writers haven't written him in, or maybe he just cracks up everytime he thinks of Tommy Boy wearing the suit.

batmbl - 11/14/2010, 8:31 AM
I remember seeing an interview with Rosenbaum shortly after he left the show and he said he wouldn't be back unless it was the end of the series. I just don't get why he hasn't signed on. Maybe he has and they just haven't released it. Either way I hope when the series ends next spring that either Rosenbaum is in it or we don't see a fake clone looking Lex. I have no problem with Lex being a clone afterall he's done it in the comic books I just want the original or none at all. BTW Friday's episode was a classic and I hope they keep moving forward the destiny storyline.

i feel like ive had to be become a deadpool groupie of sorts.

you people whine about him and tea more than they bitch about the show. half of the comments are of people bitching about deadpool or tea, while they say one comment about their dislike for the show, never saying that the fans of the show are stupid for liking it mind you.

if youre so sick of their dislike for the show, DONT READ THEIR COMMENT. simple solution.

I dont think the fans are trying to bully rosenbaum in to taking the role, there just hoping that a fan favourite would come back

@Superman8

um if they don't like the show stop reading the articles. if you don't like our comments don't read our comments. your doing nothing but bitching about bitching with that statement. its the same thing. just like they have the right to comment on this no matter how much they hate the show DOES NOT mean we shouldn't say anything to them.

our comments directed towards them have @deadpool or @Tea
if you see that DON'T READ IT

It seems like SV screwed the pooch by having Little Lex shave his head. One of the things Rosenbaum has said is that he will not shave his head if he ver comes back, and no one wants Lex to sport one of those fake rubber scalps. They should have made Litle Lex sport the long red locks, so either Rosenbaum couuld come back and just wear a wig, or they could just replace him with a guy who's face was covered up by a thick red beard.

I was kind of disappointed that Hatcher's cameo was just a vid, but it was to be expected, and was better than nothing. The show could not end until she was on it.

The only person left that should make a cameo is Gene Hackman, but that is beyond unlikely.
HarrisonBergeron
HarrisonBergeron - 11/14/2010, 10:16 AM
It was eluded to above, and I agree, if SV does bring back Rosenbaum articles like this would be their reason to keep it a total secret guarded by Hellhounds and Mall Cops until he actually walks on screen.

@superman8 if if you don't like people arguing with your heroes either they can STOP READING SMALLVILE ARTICLES or you SHOULDN'T READ THE COMMENTS simple solutions.
As for rosenbaum I really would like to see him come back and I don't see why he wont the guys been out of work since he left the show or maybe he's planning on another sorority boys movie but if he doesn't want to come back that's fine its his choice.

thanks for the support. :D

@ thabatman & @ ysoserious

where can i put my dislikes for the show, maybe on a spider-man article or x-men.

teabag & i can't win,can the only comments put on a smallville article be of praise & not taking the piss.

you guys have got to remember my comments are aimed at the show not at you,you answer my comments i reply back.

thats it.

@deadpool I'm not telling you don't read it I'm just making a point to your little groupie he's telling people they shouldn't read your comments if they don't like them to which the counter argument would be either you and tea don't read the articles or your side kick doesn't read the arguments cause lets face it you and tea love to argue your points and most here like to argue back and have fun with it but @Superman8 apparently feels that you two can't defend yourselves.

@thebatman that would be a nice surprise and I feel he should cause honestly the show is what got him famous not kicking it old school with Jamie Kennedy

One day in a near future, Mr Rosenbaum will be offer a very good contract for the movie of his life.

That very same day, the producer who had a teen growing up on Smallville, and happen to be a very good fan of ethics will call back Mr. Rosenbaum and will tell him that his contract his cancelled for no specific reason...
liveevil
liveevil - 11/14/2010, 11:40 AM
So yeah, back to the original question... Actors are professionals at what they do but they're human beings who have their reasons for the decisions they make, whatever they may be, so if he doesn't want to return for even a small part cameo, let him be. It's not like he's breaching a contract.

I have a couple things to say, first off, Michael probably has signed on, and we just don't know about it yet. They wouldn't be setting up this Luthor Clone crap if they didn't have an ending for it. Second, if I'm wrong, which I never am, the show needs to have lex end the show, and for the record, Lex has been a million different people over the years, he's effing johnny bravo folks, whoever fits the costume. It's lame to say that lex luthor was created by smallville, or michael rosenbaum, that character was created by 50+ years of creative geniuses at DC comics, and if M.R. chooses not to continue, then oh well.

Superman8 - 11/14/2010, 11:58 AM
i have full confidence that they can defend themselves. i just happen to share their opinion so when people attack them, i feel theyre attacking my opinion as well. just because i dont choose to start all my comments with 'this show sucks', doenst mean i dont think it. so from now on, i wont comment on how deadpool and tea think the show sucks, ill just say it myself.

THIS SHOW SUCKS.

I hope he's enjoying all this cause it's the last time anyone will ever talk about him.
