Superstar writer Geoff Johns has officially introduced the Legion of Super-Heroes into the re-imagined Superman universe of The CW's hit TV show Smallville, according to an announcement at Comic-Con International on Sunday, July 27th.

Johns told CBR News's JEFFREY RENAUD that he has been friends with the show's producers for years, and when he presented them with the story idea, "it all came together fairly easily."

The writing was especially easy because Johns' mind has been so entrenched in the LSH mythos of late. "I have been working on the Legion so much this year, between Action Comics and [the Final Crisis tie-in] 'Legion of Three Worlds', and with it being their 50th anniversary, it was just kind of serendipitous that this is happening this year."

Johns couldn't say what members of the team would be featured but teased, "If you are familiar with the origin story, it's not that hard to figure out."

In April 1958's Adventure Comics #247, Superboy was visited by three teenagers from the 30th century--Lightning Boy, Saturn Girl and Cosmic Boy--who have traveled back in time to recruit Superboy as a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes, for which he served (or will serve) as the inspiration.

"I think we're going to be able to stay pretty close to the origin of these characters," said Johns. "They are from 1,000 years in the future and they'll have flight rings and code names and everything else."

The air date for the Legion episode of Smallville has yet to be announced.
