TNA Wrestler Matt Morgan = Doomsday & Possible Iron Man 2 Villain

TNA Wrestler Matt Morgan could play Doomsday in Season 9 of Smallville and a possible un-named villain in Iron Man 2...

Matt Morgan, currently wrestling with TNA and a gladiator on the most recent version of American Gladiator said in a recent interview that he was in talks about possibly being cast as Doomsday on the WB show Smallville. Matt originally was trying out for another part. He was too big for the character but when they realized his size they figured he would be great for the part of Doomsday. Unfortunately that part was already cast for Season 8. They are trying to write him into Smallville's 9th season (next fall) as the Doomsday character.

This leads into Matt talking about possibly being cast in Ironman II as a villain but he can't talk anymore about it. He attributes the interest in him by casting directors to the work he's done on American Gladiators. He talks about all the great things that have happened since appearing on the show.

I forgot to add my name to this when I submitted this article, my bad. I am not a watcher of Smallville so I don't know how he'd fit in with the rest of the cast and such. I am a fan however of wrestling and he's not horrible at acting, but could use some work. He is just shy of 7 feet, so he definately has the size! Thought it was interesting none the less. I wonder what villain in Iron Man 2 he would be playing?

This is odd, we already have Doomsday, they just put Sam Witwer in a costume, and it looks pretty spot on. I guess having a Lou Ferrigno type play him would allow for some full on fight scenes.

It won't be the first time they had wrestlers on Smallville, so not too surprising there. However, for Iron Man 2 is sort of showing some desperation and scraping from the bottom of the barrel on the casting director's part.

If he is a serious contender for a villain role in Iron Man 2, I'd imagine it'd be comparable to what Bane's was in "Batman & Robin". Just grunting and throwing shit around with a quick defeat. Very rarely am I alright with casting wrestlers in films but most of the time its a deal breaker for me because they're just up there on screen as glorified extras with a bigger part. They cheapen the production value of the whole movie.

Only wrestler I'd support for a big role would be Batista for Conan. Mainly because the character doesn't need to be a Shakespearean thespian to have him work on the big screen, as Arnold as proven. I've also been known to toss around Nathan Jones, he's just a monster of a human (should have been Colossus also good for Cyber). But apart from that, wrestlers in a movie are usually viruses that threaten to bring a film down from the inside and turn it into mediocrity.

Maybe he'll be DARKSEID not doomsday? Since we already have sam witwer as doomsday and smallville execs aren't sure on a season 9 yet, it would make more sense to send doomsday on his merry way at the end of this season so that it fits in superman-lore wise and then bring in another of supe's main bad guys if season 9 does happen. Darkseid is pretty buff and alien too, so Matt Morgan could easily play him.

Just theorising here, I could be way off :P

Morgan cuts a decent promo so he may have some acting chops..as for which Iron Man villain he would be, im not too familiar with his rouges gallery but he doesnt have any huge villains like that does he?

For Doomsday you don't need a big actor. I would go for somebody like Doug Jones who can do motion cap, I think thats the best way to bring Doomsday to the big screen

I just don't see why they'd get rid of Witwer. He's a class actor, was amazing as The Secret Apprentice, brilliant as Davies Bloom aka Doomsday in smallville. I guess maybe by the end of this season they'll want to take Doomsday's "humanity" away so rather than have Witwer do Bloom AND Doomsday, they'll just get a huge guy to play the monster psychopath part. In comes in Matt Morgan, showcasing a beefer Doomsday and then just never show Davies again. Seems one of only a few ways that they'll be able to do it in the show. No other way are they going to be able to explain Bloom looking like Witwer and then Morgan, I mean the guys are bigger opposites than Capitalism and Communism :P

There's gonna be a season 9 for Smallville...? SWEET! You guys are crazy, Smallville rocks! Its the best "Superman" story on film to date. This could be really awesome. Especially how this show likes to end seasons with cliffhangers. Season 8 will probably end with Clark and doomsday "offing" eachother, like the last scene before it says "to be continued..." could be Lois holding a seemingly dead Clark. Open season 9 with impostor "Clarks" and a short story-line leading to Clark's return... and Doomsday's. And since Dooms get stronger every time he's killed, he's bigger and badder in season 9, enter: Matt Morgan. Clark can't beat Dooms a second time so he gets help from the legion(who gave Clark a Legion ring in season 8), trapping Doomsday in "time". The legion then while saying their goodbyes, warns Clark of his toughest challenge yet. The coming of a planetary conqueror, a god amongst mortals, Darkseid...

I too hate wrestlers in movies... but... Dwayne Johnson is not a bad actor. So I guess It's not that I hate the idea of using wrestlers, it just makes me instantly skeptical though. I'm the same way when they use singers and such for movies. Crimson Dynamo would be most likely for this guy.

Well considering that wrestling is a big male soap opera why not cast wrestlers? They are already acting just throwing in some athleticism when they act. Some wrestlers are actually pretty decent actors look at The Rock and Stone Cold and Piper, all pretty ok. Everyone is down on wrestlers because of Hulk Hogan and his crappy acting. The first Spiderman was not cheapened at all by Randy Savage playing Bone Saw McGraw or by Edge playing in Highlander: End Game or even by Timmy Lester aka Zues when he was in The Dark Knight, I know how that movie was cheapened by a former wrestler being cast for a small part(sarcasm). So I guess movies can cast wrestlers for roles in the movie without it cheapening or making people skeptical of the movie. Oh and just so everyone knows I said that Matt Morgan was talking about being in Iron Man 2 yesterday.

Smallvile is on its last leg, I dont even kno why people still hold on to the show, once i found out that bruce wayne will never surface and clark kent will never put on the unifrom, all because of stupid licencning crap that it will clash with the movie franchices, The show really sells it self short. Matt Morgan should kno That if he wants to make an impact to the majority of the core comic fans he should do a movie than a show based on a prequel concept ran in2 the ground.

The current season of SV is the best yet by a pretty large margin. I'm not sure where you got your info on why there will be no Superman, it's because Welling doesn't want to, not that he isn't allowed. "No flights, no tights" refers to a clause in Welling's contract. Plus, with all the hints of Superman that they have been throwing around lately I think there is good chance that the "no supes" rules have been laxed.
----
Why do people have problem with wrestlers? Some movies need big muscle bound guys, but not enough for the average wannabe actor to benefit from bulking up. Casting wrestlers saves us from the alternative of guys with no performance experience, or worse yet, god awful prosthetics.

I think the biggest scoop you got there is that there will be a season 9 of Smallville - though the show looks like it's on it's final run.

I doubt it will happen, as the offical word is that there ending this season on a high, lets hope it ends before they totaly run out of origonality.

I really like Smallville(as i'm sure you can tell from my previous post) but i have to admit, I was kinda looking forward to the story wrapping up this season. Harrison is right on about this season, though. Its a lot fresher with very little Lex and Lana. Both of their storylines were kinda driven into the ground and was kinda weighing the show down. With that change, i think the show has one more good season in it before the well(ing) runs dry. A 9th season with Darkseid as the main storyline/villain would be pretty cool. That would also explain why they haven't released much info about how season 8 ends(if i'm wrong, let me know where i can find it). Not even a list of when the final episodes are airing.

As much as i like Supes, the "no flights, no tights" clause was the best thing they could have done for the show. Once he has all of Superman's powers and/or wears the suit, the the show is over. It's no longer the story of Clark Kent on his way to becoming superman. Also, the suit would be pretty rediculous in the world of Smallville. The show did something that no other Superman mythology has before, made Clark Kent an actual person and not just Superman's disguise. There's no way in the show that Clark could put on the suit and people not say "I know that guy, I went to high school with him" or "Hey, I work with that guy". LOL. I always thought it was kinda silly that none of the other shows, movies or comics owned up to that.

And, to you guys saying that Smallville sucks, I totally understand that it might not be your cup of tea, so I'm not gonna say you should like. But, the show has to be doing something right to have made it eight years. Thats impressive for any show of any genre. And on top of that, it did it on the WB/CW. It deserves props for at least that much.

I mean is it bad enough that we have a OTHER batman show

I dunno why people think doomsday isnt in smallville?

They showed him in the episode "Bride" and also in the end of "Legion" or whatever....he suppose to climatically end season 8 by nearly kill clark kent.

I think season 9 might be the last if they kill clark off in season 8....to bring him back in season 9. But if not...then well have to have a season 10?

I dont like the writers anymore for smallville anymore, personally because they build things up and the audience loves that...but then whatever they build up they solve it in 5 minutes like its nothing. Stupid writers!

If Morgan has a small role in Iron Man 2 that's fine. I am all for a secondary body-guard type villain.

This season of Smallville is great. I could see it going another 2-3 years. Less Lex and Lana really made the show a lot better this year.

I don't think the new writing team/style still has the anticlimactic resolution issues that they used to. I really like the current season and that means something because I was pretty mad at the end of 7, the only reason I gave 8 a chance was that there was nothing else on Thursday at 8p. I really think that the new SV is more like a prequel to "Lois & Clark" than the "Superman's High School Drama" that it used to be. I think the new writers really get it, I've been waiting for the Legion and Matrix since the beginning, and here in the final season I got both.

On a somewhat related note, I just saw the "God Fall" suit posted somewhere else on CBM, and WOW! That looks spot on for Smallville's Superman. Look at the leather of the JL and the Legion, and look at the God Fall suit; they were made for each other.

I think that Smallville ran its course 2 seasons ago, even though I still watch it, Lex & Lionel were by far the most compelling characters on the show, I understand the need to go in a different direction but other than the Doomsday story, the season is pretty flat. In the last two seasons I've seen Jimmey Olsen as a James Bond type secret agent, Jor-El wipe Chloe's memory of Clark being an alien (but for some reason it didn't take, Chloe become a death defying krypto-freak, Martha totally erased from the Earth for no apparent reason, the absolute worst death of Lex story that they could have possibly created, Lana become a kryptonite absorbing supergirl & Clark still refuses to fly. The show is killing me, I continue to watch cause it was my favorite show at one point & I'm hoping that catches fire with the Doomsday story, but the series has run its course and should end soon.

"I could see it going another 2-3 years. Less Lex and Lana really made the show a lot better this year."

You do know that LEX is DEAD...they killed him for two reasons 1] because the main actor [Michael Rosenbaum] did NOT sign the contract [which is why lex was played by a different actor when the green arrow killed him, and lana absorbed the kryptonite] and 2] because they had to FINISHED LEX/CLARK story...If they brought him back, to continue it anymore it would be like SUPERMAN RETURNS...thats why "Davis aka Doomsday" is a worthy replacement....I dont see this show going on for another 2-3 year. Personally being because they keep taking MONTHLY breaks....why cant they shoot eveyrhting at once...and just deliver it to us? What more can they do? I think its time to to end this show....and give us our damn superman movie.

Smallville lacks great writing, most of the writers on this show have turned smallville into SOME MTV bullshit. The season 1-6 were good....but then it just started dropping downhill...Its like that show "OC"....season ONE was awesome..and then they changed the writers and it got GAY. literally.

They need to end smallville with a BANG.

i truely do love this show but there are some good episodes and then some bad ones. it is a sad thing that they will never make him fly. i really hope they will make him some day tho. i dont really care about him donning the cape, i just wanna see flight, the costume needs to come from martha kent also. and they need to bring her back for a few episodes. what happened to her?

i wouldnt mind seeing a spin off of the characters that they made for the justice league so far, they could incorperate clark every once in awhile for big missions they need help with

I've been a smallville fan since day one and I know alot of people on this site dont care for it that much. I really dont like the idea of having Doomsday be to involve in the smallville stories. I liked how he was introduce and the small part he played as the actul Doomsday monster. One punch, Clark does get a good look at him and then he's gone. That worked well. Doesnt affect the Superman story to much, but bringing him back for another season. Sounds like they're grasping for story lines to me. I say end smallville on a high note before it gets canceled and we dont get a proper ending. Hell...they could end smallville and start a show called Metropolis. Same cast but now they can actully have Clark as Superman. I think it would be a helluva show if done properly. Lois and Clark lasted 4 years and there story lines were garbage. Post your opinions I would like to see what other Smallville/Superman fans think.

I've been a smallville fan since day ONE also, I love Action comics, and Superman period. Which is why Superman Returns was such a disappointment.

@Rorschach01

No, I think hes dead....MICHAEL ROSENBAUM didnt SIGN the CONTRACT. And the way they ended LANA's story it was kinda good, but also FAST PACED...I like the fact they ended it the way they did....but with her having powers...whats up with that? Lastly, how they killed LEX....that pretty much how SMALLVILLE ROLLS...they HYPE up the situation episode by episode, and then they resolve it in matter of minutes. They were talking about LEX through the first few episodes....and where he is....and hes spying and bullshit like that....and the way they kileld him off? Are you serious? This is why I stopped watching the show consistently...after they swtiched the writers...and the direction...I pretty much lost interest in this show.

Michael Rosenbaum was basically the MAIN reason to watch that show, he was the PERFECT LEX. He made the show entertaining, now that hes not on there its pretty much pointless. This season SUCKS, look at all the breaks they have been taking. This is their 3rd "one month break"....the next episode airs on march 12th, I believe.

As for Doomsday...what are they trying to do with that...because the storyline has HOLES. They need the older writers back...or the old director back....whatever they did before....they need to do that.

Lois said in the show...and I love this line

"Ive been told that I'm suppose to fall in love with a guy who LOVES TO WEAR TIGHTS and supposedly FLYS"

...and this is where they were getting things right...Clark and lois were into each other...and then they had to finish the lana story..which is fine....but their not doing it right by break storylines and adding holes.
