Nicholas Hoult Out Of The Running For Lex Luthor In SUPERMAN: LEGACY; Could Channing Tatum Play Hal Jordan?

It's sounding like Nicholas Hoult is no longer in the running to play Lex Luthor in Superman: Legacy. We've also heard that Channing Tatum might be in line for Green Lantern!

A couple of interesting rumors relating to two separate DCU projects to take us into the weekend here.

Nicholas Hoult was said to be in the running for both Superman and Lex Luthor in James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, and reports indicated that the X-Men alum may decide to have another run at Lex after losing out on the role of Clark Kent to David Corenswet.

However, on the latest episode of The Hot Mic, Jeff Sneider says he's heard that Hoult is no longer in contention for the role.

Who is in line to play the classic Superman villain? The only names we've heard so far are Alexander and Bill Skarsgård (Gunn debunked a recent rumor that Daniel Craig was being looked at for the part), but with the casting news coming in fast, we shouldn't have very long to wait before an official announcement is made (in a related update, Gunn has confirmed that Jennifer Holland will not appear as Emilia Harcourt in the film).

Nathan Fillion will play Green Lantern Guy Gardner in Gunn's reboot, but what about the original cosmic ring-slinging hero? Hal Jordan is not set to appear in Legacy (as far as we know), but the character will debut in the Green Lantern Max series alongside John Stewart, and the studio may be eyeing a major A-lister for the role.

Though this sounds more like speculation on Sneider's part, a source has indicated that Channing Tatum could be set to star in an upcoming DCU project, and Jeff seems to feel it might well be Jordan.

Provided there is any truth to this, do you think Tatum would be a good pick to play Hal Jordan? Drop us a comment down below.

Channing Tatum?....Ewww!!

@Forthas - honestly I can't see Tatum in any comic book role.

If he could convincingly pull off a Russian accent, perhaps Colossus... Idk... If he practiced his delivery and got the poetic intellectual cadence down maybe Beast.

Both of those are a stretch tho

TheVandalore - 7/14/2023, 12:13 AM
@Forthas - or maybe a voice role like Rocket and Groot where he isn't seen.

@TheVandalore - really? He’s tall and handsome, I can see him as a bunch of heroes.

@Forthas - He was a great surprise in Hateful 8 and really good in Foxcatcher. Besides that he's been going the pretty boy romantic comedy route like Matthew Mcconahey and Ryan Gosling in the past. I think he will be good as a CBM character but he really needs to up his acting because he has no variety in his filmography.

TheVandalore - 7/14/2023, 8:54 AM
@Taonrey - tall and handsome is your criteria? Not, like, acting ability? There are tons of tall and handsome gents I wouldn't hire.

In my opinion, Tatum has a VERY limited wheelhouse. I would never have actually seen him as Gambit had that film been made.

I could see him as PRIME from Ultraverse, and thats about it.

@TheVandalore -

The only thing I could see him doing is Bloodshot! If they wanted to do a remake, I could see him in that role! Vin Diesel was too old for that part and I thought I was watching Vin Diesel play Vin Diesel. Channing Tatum better looks like the comic version and I think is a better actor than Diesel. He would be my first choice if they ever wanted to revisit that franchise.

@four20smoke - he shouldn't be a young buck rookie, no, and you're right there.
I just don't see Elba in the role is all. Give it to someone else a bit younger (than him) but not young.
mastakilla39
mastakilla39 - 7/14/2023, 8:25 AM
@MCUKnight11 - Kevin Hart, Dave Chappelle, or Tracy Morgan. If they are going for a buddy cop rush hour or lethal weapon take on Hal and John then we need a comedian to balance out the seriousness.
Clintthahamster
Clintthahamster - 7/14/2023, 9:36 AM
@mastakilla39 - Oof, that's the kind of thinking that got us Rob Schneider in Judge Dredd (not that his absence alone would have made that a good movie.) If we're going for comedy, I'd say someone like Lakeith Stanfield or Donald Glover, someone with comedy chops AND acting chops.
mastakilla39
mastakilla39 - 7/14/2023, 10:50 AM
@ClintThaHamster - Nah LS and GL are too "cool" and laid back don't match the buddy cop chops. Both sound like pot heads too so I wouldn't cast them as none are charismatic. Rob Schneider was good in judge dredd lol its a guilty pleasure of mine because the karl urban one was just generic boring and too comic accurate which isn't a good thing.

the standard fan casting is just to get the handsome built black guy thats so stupid. Thats what got us the CW verse, where its all looks and glamour nothing else.

Hal Jordan is massively important to the DC universe.

Tatum would be a terrible casting.

We need a serious tough guy with some gravitas. No funny guy clown casting please.

@DocSpock - I'm a Hal fan too and I think Tatum is a good fit to pull off Hal's subjective personality traits. However, Hal is a serious character. (Thats why Reynolds was beat before he got started). If they are smart with the humor, (Good Luck) and they can keep him from full on Jump Street, then I'd say he is a good Green Cop pick.
Who am I kidding, WB will probably team him up with Kevin Hart as John Stewart.

Sadly true. I'd like to see someone almost brutal like Alan Richson.

TheVisionary25

It’s unfortunate about Hoult since I think he could make for a cool Lex but oh well if true.

Tatum’s grown on me as an actor (moreso in terms of comedic roles then dramatic roles) but I can’t really see him as Hal personally

I think he would make a better Shazam if Levi isn’t coming back.
