SUPERMAN: LEGACY Star Edi Gathegi Shows Off Amazing Physical Transformation For DCU's Mister Terrific

The clock is ticking on us getting an official Superman: Legacy reveal on the Man of Steel's official birthday, but Mister Terrific actor Edi Gathegi has shown off his amazing physical transformation...

Today is Superman's official, canon birthday. The hope among fans has been that James Gunn would choose today to share the first official look at Superman: Legacy, but as the day goes on, we've started losing hope (production, remember, is expected to begin imminently).

On the plus side, Mister Terrific actor has taken to Instagram to reveal just how much of a physical transformation he's undergone to become the DCU superhero.

"Four and a half months ago I lovingly referred to myself as doughboy," he says in the post below. "I was carrying a lot grief, some of it in the form of subcutaneous fat pockets in my midsection and was probably in the worst shape of my life. Then Dod gave me a challenge that would force me back to my passions."

"I’m proud of where we are today and none of it possible without the Michelangelo of fitness Paolo Mascitti and the support of my goose @adriana_ptk who with patience and perspective also accepted the mission given to us," Gathegi concluded. "Mr. Terrific reporting for duty. Who’s next?"

Well, he looks like a superhero to us! While Mister Terrific is perhaps best known for his intelligence, he's no slouch in a fight, so the actor getting into this sort of shape makes sense. When he was cast in the movie last year, Gathegi shared a brief statement sharing his excitement to play the character.

"Beyond grateful a master storyteller has invited me to contribute to an iconic property and this artistic conversation," he said. "Humbled to join the DC family. Thank you, James Gunn, Peter Safran & Chantal Nong. Up up and away."

Check out his epic physical transformation below.

Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

David Corenswet is playing the Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan has been tapped to star as Lois Lane. Other recent casting additions include Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

It's also been confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 composer John Murphy will provide the reboot's score (he's spent several months working on it, meaning Gunn will use his music on set).

Superman: Legacy is currently set to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.

He put in a lot of work for someone who has a small role in the film. It is after all a solo Superman film...

@Forthas - Doubling down on workouts for a minor physical role is not uncommon.

Look at the cast from Madame Web.

@Ryguy88 - I have been assured that it is. James Gunn has even come out to question why people think otherwise...

@ObserverIO - have you seen Sidney Sweeney's chest? It is absolutely gorgeous! It's Oak with cedar inside! It sits at the foot of her bed and that's where she keeps her extra blankets!☮😜

Good old fashioned work out and balanced diet 💪

@MisterDoctor217 - And so can you if you just take your vitamins and get enough protein and sleep.
braunermegda
braunermegda - 2/29/2024, 2:58 PM
@JustAWaffle - yes and don't forget the testosterone and deca and trenbolone. Stop this shit, there isn't a single soul in hollywood who hasn't juiced for any role and it's about damn time you stop being so naive about it. One thing is you and me, with local doctors (if with doctors) do the cycle, these guys have the best hormones available, best nutritionists, best doctors. For them it's safe, but don't be so fool to believe it's not juiced.
braunermegda
braunermegda - 2/29/2024, 3:01 PM
@MisterDoctor217 - and it's not just work out and diet. This is pure hormones and that's okay, it's the fastest way to grow in such a small period of time. It's part of the game, just don't think it's natural because it leads to a fake feeling of belonging, like anyone could pull it off and when it doesn't happen, leads to frustration. PS: personal trainer here, with a phd in my country. I work with many, many bodybuilders, some of them olympia champions.

Clintthahamster - 2/29/2024, 3:16 PM
@braunermegda - Don't forget the benefit of having a dedicated personal trainer, and the fact that it was LITERALLY his job to work out all day.
Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 2/29/2024, 3:39 PM
@braunermegda - no shame in juicing to look the part. Its shows a willingness to commit and sacrifice. And it looks better than surgery!
braunermegda
braunermegda - 2/29/2024, 3:41 PM
@ClintThaHamster - exactly! the juice don't make miracles. it still takes time, dedication, hard work, and it's way easier when that's your only job.
braunermegda
braunermegda - 2/29/2024, 3:42 PM
@Ryguy88 - exactly! juicing ain't a miracle. It helps but if he stayed on the couch it wouldn't have effect (notable effects, because it does grow mass). The main problem is, when people don't accept the juicing as a pivotal role in Hollywood, they think they can be as big as Chris Hemsworth, for example, and that will never happen. So this person can feel demotivated, depressed and lose interest in working out. Things should be clear.

@braunermegda - I like that Alan Ritchson came out and just said exactly what hes taking
braunermegda
braunermegda - 3/1/2024, 9:54 AM
@Ryguy88 - he's a perfect example of frustration, because the guy's huge, and very influential. Lots of people could think they can be that big natural and leads to deep frustration (plus he's gained 13kg in 8 months, even with juice it's an incredible amount). It should be honest about this in Hollywood but always pointing out how it's done with safety and medical care.

Looking good!!.

I think Gunn has said that Mr Terrific is the character he’s most excited for audiences to see in the film so thats cool to hear…

Plus , Edi Gathegi is a good actor & choice for the character imo.

@Itwasme - I’m interested to see how he fits into the story

I could see someone like Hawkgirl ( if they go with the alien origin) & Metamorpho helping Clark and giving their perspectives on feeling like outsiders in their own way on Earth but not sure about Guy & Terrific honestly.

Someone needs to show these pics to that hack Grace Randolph. She didn't like his casting because he was "too small". I think that people keep forgetting that actors get prep time to put on muscle if they have to.
