The Flash... Have we forgotten about him?

I just recently bought and read THE FLASH: REBIRTH, and it occured to me that for a movie in production there has been little to no news about this guy at all.

So I looked around and found some stuff. Now dare I say it, in my opinion NONE of this is good news. It appears that David Dobkin is directing this film. He is the "amazing" director that most recently brought us Fred Claus. (However he has also done Wedding Crashers which was hilarious but does not qualify him for this job.)Ok I think you get my point. This guy has been making crap comedies since almost the beginning of time. He has no qualifications to direct a superhero/action movie at all. Thats what I think about that guy, go ahead and think what you want my opinion will not change.

Continuing with the bad news, Chris Brancato has been signed to write the screenplay. Ever hear of him, HUH? I didn't think so. He hasn't done anything worth wasting my time to note in this article. Though I can say he has written a few things, only two movies however. Two movies that i have never heard of, and will assume many others have not. So to sum this up this movie if has no chance in hell of being good if these are the guys the stick with. Now mind me they still have plenty of time to change there mind as the movie is not due out until 2011. I for one sure hope they change there mind. If they don't I wish it well, and pray for a mericle.

Yeah! I love the Flash. His story has so much potential for awesomeness, that these elements don't bode well for our beloved Scarlett Speedster.

By the way, this news is somewhat old seeing that after The Dark Knight, WB suspended all works of DC heroes. Note the deletion of the plot synopsis within your link. Green Lantern, as far as I know, is the only one that was picked back up. However, I am much more interested in The Flash than any other.

Flash is awsome but shouldnt they try and focus on superman one of the biggest comicbook heros ever?

Superman has had 5 movies and 2 or 3 television shows. After Singer botched the last one, I think it is time we let that franchise cool down from Bri-bri's assault rubbing. Give the Flash a serious shot. He would not disappoint.

no! no! no! no!.. Wonder WOman movie... complete the Trinity! You've had Batman, Superman common now! you need Wonder Woman! I like Flash but (my son thinks he runs fast like him haha! looks more like slow motion! lol!) It should be Wonder Woman next.

As far as I know the only DC property that is greenlit to be made into a movie is Green Lantern, all other properties are on hold aside from the current Batman franchise. That means WW, Supes, Flash, everybody so I wouldn't worry about this getting made by anyone anytime soon.

Whoever wrote this just comes off as a pretentious ass that doesnt' know what the hell he's talking about.

Clay Pigeons is a great little gem of a movie. Look it up.

As well as Hoodlum. Not in the same company of Goodfellas or The Godfather, but a decent gangster flick.

Sorry KIR. This is where you and I diverge. I have always, first and foremost, have been a fan of the Flash long before I appreciated the many subtle nuances of Wonder Woman. Although it would probably be more appropriate to complete the Trinity, I want the Flash! Just for pure selfish reasons. I hope you understand.

RYAN REYNOLDS ORIGINALLY SAID HE WANTED TO PLAY THE PART. I remember a year or two back when they were just talking about it, this is also when they asked him to play DeadPool. He can always be Marvel's Deadpool, and Dc's Barry Allen.

I miss the days when I didn't know John Wesley Shipp was a homosexual. Ruined the show for me...

That'll get the "advocates" riled up, but its true. I thought he was just a dork, but there was something elusive...

Masculinity!

Yeah. I'd rather some "A-lister" get the part of Garrick. Someone in shape but older, like Scott Glenn or Willem Defoe. But not those guys. But in great shape and older.

see that's tough because if they were to use Wally in the film I would cast Barry like somewhere over 30. But if not, I would choose from all these younger dudes.
Phinehas
Phinehas - 6/7/2009, 9:44 PM
Well, I have had a contention with WhollyWeird casting zygotes for the heroes these days. If it were up to me, Barry Allen would become the Flash at about late twenties to early thirties. Here's my reasoning:
He is already a forensic scientist with the Police Department, that means a lot of schooling and police academy. Also, I would have him somewhat seasoned for the purpose of having a keen mind on fighting crime, finding clues, and having a strong moral ethic when it comes to being decisive about bringing criminals to justice. A young guy, though idealistic, may lack the tools, experience, and vision to execute extreme prejudice on the baddies.
As Wally West, I WOULD have him be the younger because he picked up where Barry left off. His inexperience and cocky disposition would be the vehicle that drives his story. But I would definitely do the Barry Allen angle first.

i've always had a really hard time casting Barry for some reason. Maybe NPH, or Colin Ferguson? I don't know, haha I need some help on this one.

Neil Patrick Harris??? Are you kidding me??? I wouldn't begin with a homosexual.

Maybe James Marsden.

I do think James Marsden is awesome, but he was Cyclops.....it would just be weird....
groundrunner15
groundrunner15 - 6/8/2009, 4:12 PM
And he may be a little old, but I would really like to see Simon Baker as Barry.
Phinehas
Phinehas - 6/8/2009, 7:31 PM
1. Neil Patrick Harris was born the same year as Marsden, and his age wasn't an issue. And Simon Baker is 40!
2. I don't believe that they will bring Marsden back for XMen. Besides the treatment given him as Cyclops in each film was atrocious! I hope they reboot that franchise one of these days.
3. If Marsden is any good, he could sell the part. He has run the gammet of range from Hairspray and Enchanted, to Superman Returns(Echhh) and XMen.

Now darn you, groundrunner15! You made me sound like a fan!!!

What about Josh Duhamel from Transformers? Or...I have been trying to sell Cole Hauser for a superhero role for years. No one is biting.

Like I said, I don't mind if he (Allen) gets up to his mid-30's. If the actor has a face that can imply a younger face but is actually older, that isn't bad either.
groundrunner15
groundrunner15 - 6/8/2009, 8:04 PM
I was talking about Simon Baker as far as age went. He's a great actor; funny and so on. Now Josh Duhamel isn't a bad choice. James Marsden isn't either for that matter.

I'm mainly worried that WB will cast some crappy, young actor that's going to be nothing like Barry, if he's who they decide to do the movie on. And that worries me even more as to how they would treat Wally. If they cast someone young as Barry, then they'll probably make Wally that much younger, and if they have Barry die in a movie with Wally intending to replace him, i'm just afraid that we'll get some little teenaged dude pretending to be the Flash. And I don't want that for Wally (he's my favorite). Now I'm rambling......am I at least making sense? haha
Phinehas
Phinehas - 6/8/2009, 8:35 PM
Yes! Perfect sense. Legitimate fears for sure. Whollyweird worships at the altar of youth! Wally is supposed to be young and if they were only interested in casting an early to mid 20 year old, it should be for Wally. Anything younger would have to be for Bart Allen. I'm totally for a Barry Allen story that would eventually bring us to a Wally West story.
