At some point, we've all heard of how uncomfortable superhero costumes can be for actors playing superheroes in film and tv. From foul smells and unbearable heat (Malin Akerman's Silk Spectre II in Watchmen), to skin irritations and long prepartation times (Jennifer Lawrence's Raven/Mystique in X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past), it seems playing these beloved superpowered characters comes at a price. Now, CW's The Flash star Grant Gustin has revealed a particular discomfort he endured whilst playing the scarlet speedster in the first season of the hit TV show - specifically in the first nine episodes. The mask of his outfit had to be GLUED to his face. Said Gustin:
"Minor alterations were made to make it easier to bend all of my extremities, but nothing about the look of the suit changed. Around the ninth episode, we stopped gluing the mask to my face and switched to a mask that just slipped on and off with a zipper. That made me a very happy superhero.”
Well, that definitely doesn't sound too comfortable at all. Luckily for Gustin, the addition of a zipper was added to the mask, which sounds like it makes for a much more comfortable and enjoyable experience. Of course, Gustin's Barry Allen will be suiting up in a slightly modified suit (most notably featuring the classic white emblem on the chest) when season two rolls around later this year.
