RUMOR: Could DR STRANGE Appear In THOR: THE DARK WORLD?

RUMOR: Could DR STRANGE Appear In THOR: THE DARK WORLD?

This is one rumor I really hope turns out to be true - The Playlist reckon Marvel might be planning on introducing Dr. Stephen Strange in the upcoming Thor sequel, and, they even have a name that could be on Marvel's wishlist to play him. Read on..

We know that a Dr Strange movie is on Marvel's to-do-list and has been for quite some time, but we haven't really heard anything solid regarding them getting the wheels in motion - until now? Maybe. One way of familiarizing audiences with a character before setting him up with his own movie is of course to give him a cameo in someone else's film first - and that might just be what happens in the sequel to Thor.

This rumor has actually flown under the radar for a while. The Playlist recorded a podcast a while back, focusing on the current and future slate of superhero movies. In it they mention that they might know something about a certain Master of the mystic arts playing a part in Thor: The Dark World - and not just a cameo appearance either. Screenrant were good enough to break it down for us..

The Playlist claimed that Natalie Portman’s character Jane Foster could be working alongside Dr. Strange in a similar capacity as she did with Stellan Skarsgård’s Dr. Erik Selvig in the first film, and that Strange would be playing a big part in “all three acts” of the film, as opposed to being relegated to a cameo-type introduction. He would play a scientist (he’s a genius neurosurgeon in the comics) and someone who’s deeply interested in Foster’s stories and knowledge about Asgard and Thor

That's not all, the site also claim that Joel Edgerton (Warrior, The Thing) was the man Marvel wanted to don the cloak and goatee to play the role. "Was" and "wanted" make it sound like it is now unlikely to happen, but I think he's a pretty good choice myself. Anyway, we have to take all of this with the ever ready pinch of salt for now, but do you think this would be the best way to go about introducing Dr Strange to the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Having Strange work along side Jane Foster is not only smart but very plausible. It wouldn't surprise me if this is true.

it would be f*ckin awesome to see dr.strange, then they could start forming another team.

these movies probably wouldn't come out until 2016,well unless marvel up their movies to three a year.

Dr Strange and Thor team up could be cool.

I hope not. Please, no! i don't want Marvel to dilute either Thor or Strange by having them involved with each other. i want a kick-ass Thor movie, not another "Marvel character and friends", neither do i want Doctor Strange to lose his medical background.

Yeah, I want it to put the focus solely on Thor and his surrounding universe - just to avoid another Iron Man 2 case - but, I've also been thinking about something similar for a while...yeah, well; on the other hand, it will surely be cool. And, it can work in a way, actually; it just needs a careful handling.

Joel Edgerton isn't bad, for sure, but I want Benedict Cumberbatch.

Yeah - I heard this rumour - and then I read the exact same rumour by instead of Dr Strange it was Hank Pym!!!

So not sure how plausible this rumour is.

Also - Strange has got quite a detail and emotionally charged background - how can they fit anything in during a Thor film?!?!

At most it can only be a brief (and potentially pointless) cameo?

I wish Robert Downey Jr. had a twin brother... So that he could play Dr.Strange... He would perfectly fit this character....
Anyways on the topic... Boooooyahhhhh.....!!!!
So much win, if this is true... All Hail Marvel...!!!!

I would rather a movie. But I do like the idea of just introducing dr. Strange. He's Thor material. I hope this is true.

Orphix... Marvel has been great at hiring people for suitable roles, so far... So let's keep our fingers that Dr.Strange will get the correct guy as well...!!!

While it makes sense i don't see Strange fitting into Phase 2....

And it would make more sense that it would be Ant-Man considering Selvig had ties to Bruce Banner and Jane is now a prominent figure in the scientific community buti think it should be a quick cameo at most.

I like Edgerton, I thought he was excellent in Warrior. not my first choice for Strange but he could do good. my personal pick is Gary Oldman.

While I would enjoy seeing a Dr. Strange movie, one thing that they should leave intact is his background as a neurosurgeon. It's an important part of his character's background and an important part of what motivates him to become the Dr. Strange we all know and love. Marvel already has ten million scientists. We don't need another one.

I'm not opposed to the idea of him appearing in Thor's movie, so long as the story is good. Let's also get the costume right. I don't want to see Dr. Strange wearing armor or all leather.

I think the problem with casting Depp is that unless he puts as much effort into the role as he did with Jack Sparrow (and I'm not saying he wouldn't) than general audiences will see him as Johnny Depp and not Dr. Strange.
