Last night, Thor: Love and Thunder star Chris Hemsworth took to social media to post a new BTS photo and announce that production on the God of Thunder's next solo adventure has officially wrapped. Now, director Taika Waititi has shared the same image with a message of his own.

In the caption, Waititi (Jojo Rabbit, Hunt for the Wilderpeople) calls Love and Thunder the "craziest thing I've ever done," and if you're familiar with the Kiwi filmmaker's previous work, you'll know that's saying quite a lot!

“Sometimes two people come together to inspire the world and change the cinematic landscape forever.  And then there's me and Chris Hemsworth who are too cool to care about anything except making movies that bring people absolute joy. Ok I don't look cool I know that. This film is the craziest thing I've ever done and I'm honoured to bust my ass and have a nervous breakdown so you can all see it in May 2022.”

Thor: Ragnarok was pretty out there, and although we fully expected Waititi to up the ante for this follow-up, it sounds like the movie might turn out to be even more insane that we anticipated.

Plot details are still under wraps, but we know the story will revolve around the Odinson's old flame Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) transforming into The Mighty Thor. Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and members of the Guardians of the Galaxy will also be on hand, with Christian Bale taking on villain duties as Gorr the God Butcher.

Russell Crowe recently let slip that he'll be playing Zeus, while Matt Damon and Sam Neill have also been confirmed to return as "Fake Loki" and "Fake Odin" for (presumably) a stage re-cap of the events of Ragnarok.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to hit theaters next February.

Hemsworth looks jacked in that pic, but the camera definitely plays tricks.

Saw Hemsworth at Wizard World a few years ago, and was surprised at how thin and slender he was. Even with how muscled up he was at the time, he is still very thin. The camera definitely adds 10 lbs. I'm 6'0 and 220 lbs, and felt like a complete fat-ass standing next to him.

Hemsworth looks like he’s been drinking Hulk juice. That dudes arm looks like he could arm wrestle a full grown gorilla.
I’m more excited for Love and Thunder than I am for most of phase 4. But I’m also just happy we are getting Marvel movies soon!

I have faith in Waititi but please, please don't make Gorr a joke.

Been a fan of Waititi ever since I first saw What We Do In The Shadows. Dude is pretty talented.

I was so damn satisfied with RAGNAROK that it really feels like getting another Waititi THOR movie is spoiling us at this point. If this is able to get crazier than that while being just as good, Waititi immediately enters the GOAT conversation

The guy dressed as a banana in a Jeremy Renner music video and made out with both Tessa Thompson Rita Ora. That's not even counting going into a production office and pitching Jojo Rabbit.

His bar is pretty high for "craziest thing ever."

And I’m here for it! Ragnarok is still in my top 5 MCU films

I'm glad that we're getting Thor film, even though I loved Ragnarok (My favorite of the trilogy). I hope this film continues the fun of that film, with a little bit more serious tone.

They better go CRAZY on the VFX and actions sequences. No hold-backs!

I love how the MCU’s (the universe that plans everything) whole idea of being fat is for it to just be a character arc

Zero retconing or backpedaling whatsoever

@LEVITIKUZ - they can probably throw it on Thor's super-metabolism or something like that. Definitely can see them play Quill's attempt at working out as a joke

@LEVITIKUZ - Well, being depressed is a character arc. Weight gain is just one of the visual indicators of it. (And not inaccurate, in my case. I've been up and down 40 pounds with depression and I [frick]ing felt Thor's journey in Endgame.)

Could it have been played with softer touch? Sure. But at its core I feel like it was done for the character beats which landed.

Looks like they're standing in The Benator, which means Drax is also around

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this movie a lot. I liked Ragnarok, and although it was a little too goofy at times, it was far better than the Shakespearean Thor we got before.
