Academy Award-Winner Cate Blanchett In Talks For THOR: RAGNARÖK

The Marvel Cinematic Universe may be getting very close to landing a major player for one of their upcoming films. A new report has revealed that Academy Award-winner Cate Blanchett is currently in talks to join Chris Hemsworth in Thor: Ragnarök. Come check it out!

Variety has learned that Marvel Studios is currently in final negotiations with Academy Award-winner Cate Blanchett to star as one of the new female leads in the Chris Hemsworth-led Thor: Ragnarök. Details on her potential character are unknown at this time, but rumor has it that her role could be any one of these three characters - Amora the Enchantress, the Queen of the Dead Hela, or Valkyrie (although Marvel is said to be seeking someone younger for Valkyrie).

The Hollywood Reporter adds that Marvel had been on the hunt for a "bad-ass female" for quite some time and Blanchett, having already starred as Galadriel in the Lord of the Rings films, certainly fits the bill. Previous reports have also suggested that the upcoming 2017 film has at least two new prominent female roles, so if Blanchett's deal closes, there will be at least one more lead role left to cast.

Along with Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, who plays the fan-favorite Hulk, is also expected to star. Taika Waititi (What We Do In The Shadows) is helming the picture with a script that was most recently polished by Stephany Folsom.

Thor: Ragnarök hits theaters November 3, 2017

[frick]ing killing it in Todd Haynes' CAROL, likely goign to win Best Actress for that. She has Richard Linklater's WHERE'D YOU GO, BERNADETTE next too.

HUGE GET BY MARVEL!

Enchantress? Hela? Valkyrie?

Is she too old for Valkyrie? Maybe, but she would be great in that, though I think she is more likely to be someone like Hela, due to her age, though like I said I personally have no problem, I'm just going by the age choice here.

THR said it's not clear who she's playing but that Marvel is in the hunt for a "bad-ass female".

Brunnhilde is one of my favorite female MARVEL characters so hopefully she is in the film as well and do her justice as well as giving her some really bad ass sequences in the film, I always like Sif but they're not doing a whole lot with her so I'd rather she be the main femme fatale. But does anyone have any recommended movies I should watch to get more acquainted with her work? I know her from Blue Jasmine and the LOTR films but that's about it.

@LEVITIKUZ I believe Jeff Sneider and/or Justin Kroll said this, but "in talks" means both sides want this to happen.

It could fall apart, yeah, but she already has prior history with Disney and she's already banking on her CAROL success with a new Linklater film and now this.

@Amazing512 It's a done deal until it's not. We won't get a press release until production begins but just wait for Feige, Boseman or any of the cast to start talking about him for your confirmation, just like with Ruffalo confirming Taika Waititi.

More than likely, she'll portray Amora. Man, I really wish Hela was in this movie instead.

This is a major coup. I consider Cate Blanchett to be the greatest film actress of her generation by far and among the very finest film actresses alive today.

My guess is she plays Hela.

@DrDoom @MARVELPSYCHO79 Yup, has to be Hela. Also, Borys Kit of THR already saying that his source told him that Valkyrie will be someone in their 20s.

Ike Perlmutter ousted from decision making = Marvel hiring better talent? Coincidence? I THINK NOT,

Is it just me, but is Marvel finally trying to make this movie have a LOTR vibe? They hire a NZ director, filming it in Australia, and now, casting an award-winning actress from those movies.

Yep, she's playing Hela.

No wait, she's definitely definitely Valkyrie.

.....I mean Captain Marvel

@Ramiel Haha, I think it's just a coincidence but going for an Apocalyptic LotR vibe is promising and intriguing af.

@Ramiel

Good call. And its about damn time. There is no reason why Thor could not be every bit epic in scope as the LOTR or Hobbit Trilogies were. The only thing stopping Marvel is the budget and will. But with Feige wielding Disney money that shouldn't be a problem anymore.
