Actress-turned-filmmaker Elizabeth Banks made her directorial debut with 2015's Pitch Perfect 2, which was a massive success. Unfortunately, her follow-up film, 2019's Charlie's Angels reboot, wasn't nearly as big a hit.
Banks' next project is Universal's bonkers-looking Cocaine Bear, which she fully acknowledges could turn out to be a "career ender" during an interview with Variety.
Despite the risks, Banks was adamant that her third feature further develop her original voice as a filmmaker. “I can’t do someone else’s vision,” she says. “I really want to bring my sensibility to things.”
For this reason, Banks has largely avoided any major studio blockbuster fare - though there is one particular Marvel Studios project that caught her eye a few years ago.
Banks says she was "really interested" in helming Thor: Ragnarök, and called to pitch Marvel on her idea. “No one called me [back],” she adds. “Taika Waititi got the job. Rightfully so.”
While discussing the MCU film, Banks came to a startling revelation: “You’re going to clickbait me in that f*cking article now. I never should have said it out loud.”

So, no joy with Marvel, but what about DC? Banks was asked if she's reached out to her Slither director James Gunn now that he's co-running DC Studios. “I had a pitch for a Catwoman movie a while ago," she laughed. "But I don’t think it’ll fit into the mandate right now. But maybe someday.”
