THOR: RAGNAROK Cut An Awesome Callback To THE AVENGERS Which We'll See On The Blu-Ray
Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi has revealed yet another deleted scene from the threequel and sheds some light on why he felt it was necessary to move Odin's scenes from New York City to Norway.
Thor: Ragnarok has plenty of callbacks to previous Marvel Studios movies, including The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Thor: The Dark World. One of the best came when The Hulk threw the God of Thunder around just as he did Loki back in 2012 but director Taika Waititi has now revealed that the final act would have featured another nod to Joss Whedon's critically acclaimed superhero movie.
"They all land on the bridge – Thor, Loki and then Hulk. They stand for a second. Then Hulk just smashes Loki, punches him out of the frame – just like in Avengers, when Hulk did it to Thor. It was a crowd favourite, but we just had to get rid of it for time. It might be on the DVD." The filmmaker could be referencing that scene featuring the four heroes which was in the trailers but not the movie.
As for those scenes which would have featured a broken down hobo Odin wandering around New York, Waititi went on to explain that moviegoers at test screenings simply found it too depressing and that's why his demise was moved to a different and ultimately far more serene location in Norway.
"What we wanted originally was for Thor and Loki to find Odin in New York, living on the streets, Fisher King style. There was something really cool and interesting about that, and I think that might be on the DVD, that version. But something about having him there and then dying made a lot of audiences in our test screenings feel too sorry for him. It was such a bummer seeing the great king of Asgard stuck in New York. We preferred the idea he'd be in some mystical Norse environment."
So, it sounds like we'll be getting plenty of great material on the DVD and Blu-ray then! With any luck, details on that will be released at some point in the next few months, so stay tuned for updates.
