THOR: RAGNAROK: Here's How Hela's Incredible Comic-Accurate Helmet Was Created

Along with a menacing performance, Cate Blanchett's Hela sported a very comic-faithful design in Thor: Ragnarok, especially with her iconic helmet. A new video details the process of creating the prop.

From the very first piece of concept art, fans were delighted with the design for Cate Blanchett's Hela in Thor: Ragnarok. The Goddess of Death looked as if she was pulled directly from the pages of a comic book, due in no small part to her incredible and iconic headdress.

In a new video from Tested, Adam Savage (of Mythbusters) speaks with Jose Fernandez of Ironhead Studios, who created the physical helmet that Blanchett wore on set. Check the video out below and let us know what you thought of Blanchett in the comments!

In Marvel Studios' "Thor: Ragnarok," Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok - the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization - at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger - the Incredible Hulk!

You know, this is the second time this year I purposely walk into a movie with very low expectations (Spider-Man homecoming/Thor Ragnarock) and I get surprised with how entertaining it was. Definitely not something I would go see again but it did surprise me, very entertaining and comedy wasn’t overkill. Logan has been the only movie I have gone to pay to see again in a theatre.

@DoubleD - she worked with what she had wouldn't say she's top but it will be extremely interesting her interaction with thanos tho :)

@knocturnalzen10 - she owned the role. I think she was the only one in line with the epic Shakespeare vibe the other characters used to have. Odin also had some of that gravitas. I dug how Hela fought very physically with swords and spears and axes... Tired of villians shooting lasers or causing energy pulses to take out everyone. Her action scenes made her way more bad ass than previous villians

But they couldn't get Scarlet Witch's costume right?

@Griela - I have to agree. I can't understand why they can't at the very least design a headdress for her.
It's not like it will be out of place next to the two men in robot suits, and actual robot with a cape (who she is in love with) and a teenage boy in a red and blue full body suit with a mask.
I also hate that it seems now they've even given up in dressing her in any sort of a costume and just have her in civilians clothes (which aren't even red).
I hope, if they go down a route were Dr Strange begins to train her that she receives a headdress in a similar fashion to the way strange received his cape.

@StormXmen123 - Yeah, I think the headdress and red are the main things that are iconic when it comes to her look. I just don't get the costume they gave her. One is just goth clothes and the other is a really complicated jacket? Like why would anyone ask for that to even be made? Did SHIELD really give that to her.. instead of something practical they gave her a weird red jacket... they could have given her a headdress and say it's tech that helps her focus her powers or something.

Great to see practical effects everywhere in this film. Everything had a very real feel and it was great. None of this shiny cartoon CGI everywhere. It was there in places of course, but the practical effects were at the forefront

It seems like everyone in Thor has weird ass helms like Loki and Hela and they make them all great but Thor has a normal helm and they can't get that right .

I should have assumed IronHead Studios made this thing. Let's take a moment to remember the amazing Apocalypse costume they made for Fox, but Fox decided not to use.

And yes, this was a functional costume piece literally made from a cast of Oscar Issac's head.

@Jecharius - apocalypse should have been cgi like they did with Thanos in the MCU
Jecharius
Jecharius - 11/13/2017, 11:32 AM
@zeon00 - I could see that being a good route to go, but that's not really the point.
The point is that Fox looked at the above design from Ironhead, and the Ivan Ooze looking one, and thought it would be a good idea to go with the latter.

The chose this
