Thor Roundtables: Tom Hiddleston on Loki

Thor Roundtables: Tom Hiddleston on Loki

CBM's Brent Sprecher interviews the cast of Thor! In this segment, Tom Hiddleston earns his comic book cred by explaining Ragnarok and weighing in on Loki's comic book breasts!

British stage actor Tom Hiddleston was one of the biggest question marks when it comes to the cast of Thor, but in this interview he proves he is worthy to star as Loki by explaining to the assembled reporters the plot of J. Michael Straczynski's recent Thor relaunch. He even weighs in on Loki as a woman and lets slip that we will find out who Loki's real father is in Thor!

Sorry about the audio quality. Tom is soft-spoken and his interview happened to take place when most of the camera crews were packing up to leave following the press line, so it was really noisy.

BTW, Tom and Kat Dennings appear to be an item. They were holding hands at the EW/SyFy party that I attended on Saturday night. Sorry, Dennings fans!

I'm amazed and excited by the amount of enthusiasm each person in this production is showing for Thor, starting with Kenneth Branaugh who fought for (and read Staczynki's recent work)the chance to make this one. The amount of research they've put into their characters and performances is fantastic.

That has to be one of the best interviews I've seen in a long time. starscream4president and DDD said it best. This guy seems to be very smart, and passionate about acting. Besides Thor, I hope to see a lot more of him in the future.

@LEEE: Thanks! Yeah, he seems to really be into this role. As for his build, I stood behind him in line to get into the EW/SyFy party and he was several inches taller than me and solidly built. He's thin, but lean.

He really seems like a decent kinda guy :-)

Let alone someone who seems to fit the look/build/and sound of Loki..

I'm wondering just how many movies Tom Hiddleston's signed up for? "Didnt a previous report put it at like '9' or somthing?!?!? :-> if so AWESOME.

Once again, great work Brent! :)

I've said it once, I'll say it again - Tom Hiddleston is going to steal the show as Loki! He seems like a real nice guy as well so good on him for picking up a beautiful woman like Kat Dennings!

I think he really enjoyed playing a villian, actually I hear that actors enjoy playing villians more than heroes, which I can believe
OdinsBeard

claybo@ it's funny how often the villain is actually a better dude in real life than the hero! tho in this case Hemsworth seems like a solid guy as well.

i can't wait. i love hearing actors open up about where they get specific inspiration from.

Difficult to hear him, but he sounds like he played a really well thought out character. He knows the comic lore as well as what emotions were needed for Loki to succeed. Should be interesting to see on film.

@claybo - I have heard people often say that the villain is actually the more complicated of the characters in a comic and it reflects that on the screen as well. Most of the time the hero is going to have a altruistic take, for the greater good, for justice, for vengenence etc... but for the villain it is more complex. What makes a person truly evil? Most of the time it is a very complex answer one that there is not a single answer too. He talked about Loki with that kind of depth and that always looks good on screen.
claybo4131
claybo4131 - 7/27/2010, 8:22 AM
@odinsbeard very true, most people who play villians turn out to be nice people off screen, and Chris seems like a solid nice guy as well (Sif is pretty nice as well btw) But from his body language and the way he talks about it it seems he really enjoyed playing Loki

@general Very true, but I was talking about Villians in films in general, not just comic wise, im talking about all movies
claybo4131
claybo4131 - 7/27/2010, 8:25 AM
@shocker I didnt judge him on being Loki cause I had never seen him in anything at all, I read he worked with Kenneth on that BBC show Wallander but Ive never seen it, but after watching some interviews of him and being told by a couple others that his performance was a grand slam as Loki, im convinced
deadpool87
deadpool87 - 7/27/2010, 8:32 AM
where the hell are Marvel's ninjas? Tom's out blabbing about plot twists as big as Loki finding out he's actually the son of Ymir(or whichever frost giant) and there's no one to shut him up? Granted any fan of Thor already knows all of this, but don't ruin it for every1 else
claybo4131
claybo4131 - 7/27/2010, 9:01 AM
@deadpool Loki's real father was Laufey not Yimir, Laufey was slain by Odin, Odin took him in cause he showed bravery during the slaying, Loki was very short for a Giant and was Asgardian sized.

I've seen Tom in both series of Wallander with Kenneth Branagh and he was so good in them. He is going to be fantastic as Loki. I saw him in Return to Cranford also and he was just adorable as William.
