How to a Approach a Preacher Adaptation

Preacherfanatic here, and If you haven't already guessed, I am a huuuuuge Preacher fan, it is one of the best (non superhero) Comic Series I have read, and is one of Garth Enis' greatest works. The Story follows Jesse Custer, a former Preacher in Texas, after a freak explosion kills his entire congregation on Sunday Jesse is endowed with superpowers, given to him when a half demon, half angel (Genesis) possesses him. He now has the "Word of God" Any thing he says people must do, So if he tells you to go [frick] your self, better watch out. He goes on a Journey to find God and make him explain why this is happening, along the way he runs into his ex girlfriend Tulip O'Hare, and a cocky Irish Vamp known only as Cassidy. It blends religion, fantasy, horror and comedy, so well that it is hard not to enjoy (Unless you are a hardcore Fundamentalist) It is dark, but even the dark parts can be funny. The characters are great, and the dialogue is masterful.

Now that I have released my inner fan-boy i get to the point. Preacher should NEVER be made into a film...EVER. It is too complex for one film, even if there was a trilogy there is no guarantee that the first will get a sequel due to the nature of the film, so for a first film to leave off with a cliffhanger would be upsetting knowing there are no more.

What needs to Happen is for Showtime or HBO to get a hold of it. They have made some quality television that I have enjoyed for a few years now. This is the exact kind of Dark and ambitious story for them to pursue. Each season could be about two volumes in the series. I wish that we could get Kevin Smith to produce or direct it because he would be perfect for a project like him, the dark humor, the religious themes and the satire of religion itself.

A show like this could really bring in an audience, I think. If people are willing to watch Vampire doing it, and all that other stuff in True Blood (Me included) Or people like seeing Serial Killers who kill serial killers (me included), like Dexter. Then i can see this as a real good show that could last for a while. And Garth definitely needs to be Executive producer. Maybe not the show-runner, but he needs to have big input into this project. As much as I would like to see big name stars like Colin Ferrel in This, as the Irish Vamp, c'mon you know its perfect! I think it would even be interesting if it was narrated from Cassidy's point of view he could be sittin in a Bar tellin an unlucky drunk bastard what he has gone though, then toward the middle or end of season 4 he can pick up with the story like all the narrating was a part of the story, just some ideas. I hope they don't move forward on the movie cause it feels like it is being set up to be some sort of PG-13 tween loving mess considering the main roles are Hunky guys, which is not who these people are, especially not Saint of Killers. Those are my thoughts on how a Preacher Adaptation could be handled.
