There will never be an origin, tho you can read what Kirkman's "fake" origin pitch was to get someone to publish the comic

Just1Superguy, The comic won't end until people stop buying it, and this is something Kirkman repeats every few months in the letters column of the comic. Also, Kirkman has repeatedly expressed that he has no intention of revealing the origin of the virus, if it even is a virus. The point of that being the survivors don't know what's caused it and there for the readers don't get to know either. We'll find out when Rick does.

I knew the Hilltop was too good to be true. Time for a survivor war! And dear God please Kirkman, don't kill Andrea. She's my favorite character in the comics and I'd probably stop buying the book at least for a few months while I got over it.

Avalanche, The real mystery is where it came from. I don't think every one is infected though that certainly is implied. I think it's like any other endemic virus, X% of the population was extremely susceptible to it, dieing from fever within days of contracting it. Then, X% are carriers who are unaffected by the symptoms after contraction, but can still transfer it and are still reanimated upon death. Finally, there is likely a very, very small percentage of people, like .01% or less, that are totally immune.

love the series, but it's getting tedious and a little formulalic. I personally enjoy a series knowing it has an end in mind, gives more focus to the theme and the writing a la Preacher, 100 Bullets, Y the Last Man etc etc. I like knowing that the story is going somewhere. Doom out.
