DOCTOR WHO: 10th Doctor David Tennant And Companion Catherine Tate To Return For 60th Anniversary Show

Some pretty major news for Doctor Who fans here, as it's been announced that the 10th Doctor (David Tennant) and his companion Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) will be back for the 60th Anniversary show.

In news that's sure to make Doctor Who fans very happy, it's been announced that one of the most popular actors to play the iconic Time Lord, David Tennant, is set to reprise his role for the British sci-fi show's upcoming 60th Anniversary Special - and he won't be alone!

The BBC has announced that Tennant and Catherine Tate, who played his loyal companion Donna Noble, will return for the currently shooting special, which will air at some point next year. This comes on the heels of the news that current Doctor Jodie Whittaker will be replaced by Ncuti Gatwa in an upcoming episode.

Last time we saw this duo on screen together, The Doctor was forced to wipe Donna's memory in order to save her life. We're not sure how they'll be reintroduced, and showrunner Russell T. Davis wasn't giving much away!

“They're back! And it looks impossible - first, we announce a new Doctor, and then an old Doctor, along with the wonderful Donna, what on earth is happening? Maybe this is a missing story. Or a parallel world. Or a dream, or a trick, or a flashback. The only thing I can confirm is that it’s going to be spectacular, as two of our greatest stars reunite for the battle of a lifetime," Davies said in a statement.

Davies is returning to take charge of Doctor Who for its 60th anniversary in 2023. Whittaker's send-off is set to begin in "Legend of the Sea Devils," on April 17, which will be followed by two more specials (no release dates have been announced)

Donna Noble was the literal worst companion

@RebelCommander - Disliked her in Dr. Who and in the office.

@Nunyabiz - I saw her in The Office before I started getting in to Dr. Who. Which I think played in to why I didn't like her, because I really didn't like her office character. But I recently started re-watching Dr. Who and her character is just annoying all around

Of course he would return: he is the BEST DOCTOR after all.

Why ask what this is here? Unless it's the other 10th doctor from that parallel dimension, isn't it almost definitely just the 10th from a random point in his history like every other anniversary? We've even had companions before.

Granted there isn't much to say until we get something on the story, but this could be a bunch of bs to build up hype.

@Origame - I have no idea how to even begin tackling a response to this. What do you mean?
Origame
Origame - 5/16/2022, 8:47 AM
@Cap1 - read the comment they made announcing their returns. They're acting like something weird is happening to bring them back, but it's a time travel show and that's how they usually bring back past characters.

Also, I'm guessing you're not overly familiar with the franchise.
Cap1
Cap1 - 5/16/2022, 9:26 AM
@Origame - you’d be guessing wrong, your comment is just poorly worded and a bit daft. Having them return has built up hype plenty, whatever way they phrase the announcement. They hardly need to conjure up ‘bs’ to generate hype for the fan favourite Doctor returning
Origame
Origame - 5/16/2022, 9:37 AM
@Cap1 - thats not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the "how could they return" comments.
Cap1
Cap1 - 5/16/2022, 9:53 AM
@Origame - i'm aware, that is what I'm referring to. They've 0 need to build hype from 'bs' comments when all the hype they could possibly ever need has been built by the announcement of these two returning
Origame
Origame - 5/16/2022, 9:53 AM
@Cap1 - ...yet they're doing it anyway.
Cap1
Cap1 - 5/16/2022, 10:01 AM
@Origame - lmaooo no they aren't man. He's teasing their return to the already extremely hyped fans. Think he's well aware there's no reason to generate more excitement and that flashy words won't do that
Origame
Origame - 5/16/2022, 10:03 AM
@Cap1 - ...they flat out said they're returning. What they're teasing is the how.
Cap1
Cap1 - 5/16/2022, 10:07 AM
@Origame - jesus, when I initially commented I wasn't aware it'd take this long for you to understand. Russell T. Davies has not said that extract as a means of 'bs to generate hype', he has said it to tease fans who are already hyped and are unlikely to be more hyped into speculating the means of their return. 'Teasing' and 'bs to build hype' are very different things
Origame
Origame - 5/16/2022, 10:11 AM
@Cap1 - dude just stop. Today's word of the day, "could". As in, might not be. Stop being so butt hurt.
Cap1
Cap1 - 5/16/2022, 10:13 AM
@Origame - not butt hurt bro, ur comment/reasoning is just moronic
Origame
Origame - 5/16/2022, 10:28 AM
@Cap1 - you've proven you don't even understand my very simplistic reasoning, and you have to be on the defensive about me saying it's bs to build hype when I said in the same part I need to wait and see, as well as saying it just could be bs. Because bs to build up hype is apparently never a possibility for you.

@Origame - The more popular a character, the louder the haters.

@LlamaLord - apparently I'm a hater, for suggesting a possible problem while I admit I need to see more before saying anything concrete.

Great news, prob my fav pairing in the new seasons, mainly cos it was platonic n didn’t have some lame romance tacked on. Matt Smith next pls

It'll be really disappointing if 10 is the only returning Doctor. Will fell pretty anticlimatic after the 50th. Get 10, 11, 12 and 14 (too soon for Jodie). And maybe throw in Paul McGann's 8th Doctor too?
1stDalek
1stDalek - 5/16/2022, 11:50 AM
@Nightwing1015 - I think 10 & 12 are for sure in this, I agree it's too soon for 13 (but wouldn't be against Yaz & her showing up anyway), 9 is happy only doing audios (maybe they can convince him for a multi Doctor audio story with the Classic Who ones?), and I really hope Smith isn't too busy with House of the Dragon S02 to do it. My biggest hope is for 8 to show up with a Big Finish companion!

@Nightwing1015 - also get david bradley and the actress who played Carol anne ford in adventures in space and time to play the first doctor and susan
Nightwing1015
Nightwing1015 - 5/16/2022, 1:28 PM
@1stDalek - No way Yaz and her should show up. It would be so stupid to have an emotional last episode and her to then show up in the very next one, LOL!

But yeah I think 8-12 plus 14 would make for a great episode.

Mrcool210 - 5/16/2022, 3:27 PM
@1stDalek - 12 is doubtful given how he has stated publicly he doesn't like multi doctor stories. Yeah he did twice upon a time. But I think that was the exception

They're desperate to keep the fanbase at this point in time, but I'm excited for this! I'll give the next doctor a chance, I do love this showrunner
