DOCTOR WHO casting! British musician & actor Olly Alexander is in the running and tipped to be the new Doctor! A spearhead for the LGBTQ+ community and talented actor his casting has not yet been confirmed

Olly Alexander is a British musician, actor and LGBTQ+ advocate/spokesperson that has released several albums with his band 'Years and Years' with a third debuting later this year. He has also succeeded with a progressive career in film and television with small film roles in the likes of Gullivers travels, Great expectations and The Riot club and more recently he has had glowing acclaim and reviews for his role in the Channel 4 tv series It's a Sin playing the reckless and inquisitive character of Ritchie Tozer.

Currently there is nothing confirmed yet as to who the next Doctor Who will be and Jodie Whittaker still has two more specials to release in 2022 but that won't stop the rumour mill churning and in regards to Doctor who castings there always seems to be a little bit more of reliable information once the top three or four contenders for the role are in media circulation. Other names being thrown around are the likes of Phoebe Waller-Bridge of Solo fame, Michaela Coel as seen in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, as well as Kelly Macdonald from Brave, Richard Ayoade, Jodie Comer and Tom Rosenthal all with a heavy background of U.K. television and film content.

It does seem a strong possibility though that Olly Alexander could well be the next Doctor Who and hopefully we should hear something soon confirming the casting released by the BBC and it's safe to say that an LGBTQ+ casting will ruffle some feathers due to some older mindsets being fans of the character that's been around since the sixties. With all due respect to any of the complaints likely to be made by close minded fans and non fans alike I think that Doctor Who is the perfect character to play around with when it comes to casting due to the nature of the Doctor regenerating into a new being at the end of every character series run. It couldn't be better set up really for inclusion of various races, genders and personalities to take over the role and make it their own.

I would love to read fans comments on the possibility of this new casting!

Richard Ayoade? I might actually watch Dr Who if they cast him.

@Fishandchips - Yes, please to Richard Ayoade. This man would make a perfect Doctor Who.

I would love to see Hayley Atwell play the character though. Probably won't happen.

if its true, doesn't matter. Jodie wasn't the problem. Chris Chibnall is.

@dracula - this. The show has been almost unwatchable under him even though most of the actors have given great performances when they get the chance

@dracula - True, if Chibers stays the show will still be bad.

It should be noted his agent denied it. I'm not convinced this is legit personally, I'll wait to conformation.

I haven't seen him in anything, but he seems like a fine choice. I'm not surprised they've denied it if it isn't official yet.
The DW community is already melting down from 10 different angles at this, including the 'progressives' hoping for a POC and/or a woman & ignoring that he's gay, and the "he's too young" crowd has returned too.

Why not create new characters for the LGBTect community? Seems to me that they want to use established characters for a reason and that reason is forced acceptance. I haven't watched a single episode of the female doc and will not til the character is returned to it's roots. Ask yourself this question, what if an original and established LGBTect character was suddenly rewritten as an old white guy?
Why are producers so scared to let an original LGBTect character draw it's own audience? Seems rather phobic to me.
